  • Getting laid-off can be very stressful, especially is you are on a work visa (H1B) in the US. Based on my research, I have put together some actionable steps that will help you find a new job in the next 60 days of getting laid-off. Tech industry at this point in time is turbulent and you need to be very strategic about how you find your next job.
    If you are someone who is worried that your company will laying-off soon, this will be helpful for you as well.
    Please share this video widely as this might help someone who is seeking help and advice. Let us all be supportive to the immigrant community in the US and help move past this difficult situation.

    Thanks for this wonderful advice. Sorry to hear about your redundancy recently. Your positive advice is so relevant to anyone who has been laid off. I am sure your excellent skills will help you get another job in the US. Good luck :-) Been in the industry for a long time, and there are ups and downs. Don't panic, the US is a big country, and look for work as you mention in industries that others may not look at or don't shine out. - Good luck

    One Important point is to be alert from scammers/Fraudsters since the person will be vulnerable and desperate so Fraudsters will try to manipulate, ask money in lieu of providing Job etc.

    The most sad line in this entire video is "Moving back to India is considered the most dreaded option :(. We all were brought up in this country , had our most of our education which enabled us to move abroad , it should never be considered the most dreaded option to move back to home . I don't think the living standards in India are that bad , most probably it is the work culture and absence of work life balance !

      Standards are not bad but we have made dreams of living abroad.....yes and work culture and attitude need to improve we are not slaves just because we have a job...and work under you

      She said moving to Canada, India but you choose to pick just the India from it and burst out. The message of the video is noble and just stick to that.

      Madam is lying. It's not very supportive. If you're from tier 3 college or just some random guy like me -- they will ignore you and they will compete with you. They will bring you down.

    • @aishwaryasrinivasan
      @aishwaryasrinivasan  Před rokem +1

      I don't agree to that. I have experienced the support by the community and there are several people who are giving back to the community.
      Competition exists in any industry and field, that doesn't mean people will pull you down. There are much more job opportunities than the people interested in them. One needs to build their skills to be able to be considered for a role

      @@aishwaryasrinivasan Girl doesn't understand the stress of being from a tier 3 college. Competition exists, yes. But it's literally impossible to get into a product based company. Even with top tier skills -- most end up jobless or at BEST service based company. The few lucky ones that you see from tier 3 at product based companies are those with special connections or CZcams famous.
      You are spreading false information and selling your audience on lies. Tech industry is HYPER competitive. It is not a good place for weak minded and tier 3 graduates. I've seen people who just hide information and not give referrals just to make sure the other person is not going to get a higher package or land a job due to severe competitions.
      But, of course, you're TOTALLY out of touch since you are in America and you graduated from Columbia. People like you will NEVER EVER understand.

      @@Sanyu-Tumusiime Again you are entitled to your opinion, but having a pessimistic view isn't going to get one anywhere. Maybe a few don't help, but that doesn't mean no one would. Generalizing this isn't really correct. There are countless entrepreneurs, leaders and CXO even in India, who haven't been to tier 1 universities, I don't see how that has ever stopped their growth. Lastly, if you believe you can, you can; if you believe you can't, you never will.

      @@aishwaryasrinivasan Sure, you can say that. However, I just find that denying the reality and challenges we face is not something practical. Reality doesn't mean pessimistic. That is just how the world works. Sure, we all believe in our selves -- however, there's a limit to how far that can get you. Unfortunately due to systemic problems, we're stuck in our places. You might not see how we are stuck, but if you come out and actually understand then you'll see the reality and bigger picture.
      Reality is different. Unfortunately, for far too many folk who don't have the same opportunities, we're limited and we can't find such opportunities.
      I'm sorry, but reality does hit hard. Consider yourself "lucky" for not facing the same problems as the common folk. Maybe you should hop back to India and see the problems. In India, if we can even land a job that pays 3LPA, you're one of the luckiest people alive. 3LPA is lucky.
      The real world out here isn't the bubble of silicon valley where "everything is possible". Reality is reality and it's a harsh reality. Quite frankly, I just don't think privileged people like you are capable of understanding the reality of the world.

    Hello ma'am, any suggessions on what we can do if we are laid off during the OPT period? or worse, don't get an offer at all because of the recession? i.e. just out of Grad School, on an F1 Visa, trying to pay off student debts, large scale lay offs in tech companies. What are our options then? Thanks.

    • @aishwaryasrinivasan
      @aishwaryasrinivasan  Před rokem +1

      It is relatively easier on OPT or student visa as you have 90 days instead. And you don't need to do any visa transfer, you can start working immediately.

      The intent of the video is just to share actionable steps that people can take if they are on H1b and get laid off. This is all my research that I did to figure out what I would do if I were laid off.
      There was no intention to be hurtful towards anyone. With how turbulent the situation is in the tech industry, I could totally be laid off. It is just matter of luck.
      Being on H1b in this situation is stressful and my intention is only to share the information. I am sorry if you felt otherwise.
