wait, Blaze has fire powers, has a forehead gem, and her early concept designs have an Arabian influence. if that's the case, then shouldn't she have a high-class Arabian accent? they've got nobility there too y'know, with a little posh British for good measure.
I can’t find the early design
Even her dress looks Indian (it looks like a kurta, which is an Indian dress), and I’m sure the forehead gem is a bindi. So I guess she has Indian design?
Indian, you meant Indian.
I feel like leaning into a British-esque accent would be really good, especially since Marine is heavily implied to have a sort of Australian accent.
her forehead gem is a bindi
As soon as I saw the title, I already knew Ugandan Knuckles would be mentioned somewhere, it's inevitable.
Ha
I never understood the hype about that Knuckles

I believe Blaze should have an Arabic or Indian accent. It just matches her astetic and overall attitude. I always thought Shadow would have a slight transatlantic accent since he grew up in the 50's haha.
Omg you're so right about Shadow. 💀
Shadow with a 50s accent is something I didn’t know I needed
"I found you, faker!"
"Faker? Now you listen here see, I think you're the fake hedgehog around here see..." *pulls out tommy gun and starts blasting*
He kinda did in SA2.
I've always imagined Blaze with an Indian accent!!!
I agree with every accent except French for Blaze. Being a huge Blaze fan, I just can't see her having a French accent at all! Her whole look and demeanor scream Arabian or Indian accent. Just my personal opinion though. Rouge's Bronx/Latina accent fits perfectly. ❤❤
I learned that Kirk Thornton based Shadow’s voice off Clint Eastwood. So it would make sense for Shadow to have a slight southern accent.
Going off her being an Imperial Princes and the heavy Arabian influence in both her and her empires design should she really ether British or Arabian based on how you want to take the Imperial princes part.
finally someone who understands Blaze. she doesnt have any french coding to her at all. latin and indian were the themes that the team had in mind for her when she was being designed back in early-mid 2005. 🐱💜🔥
@@djlanner1174 Blaze is my favorite Sonic character so I have my opinions. 😊😊Thanks for replying!
Thank you…. Thank you for not saying the phrase (latinx)
Knuckles was originally going to be given a Jamaican 🇯🇲 accent. I remember looking at the Sonic 3 & Knuckles guide book & seeing "yea mon" in the text for when he spoke. I am of Jamaican & Antiguan background - & I personally enjoyed this Caribbean representation of Knuckles. His shoes give off a Caribbean Rastafarian colour scheme with the red, yellow & green so it fits his character. He can also sound tough too with a Caribbean or an African accent. All he needs to be done is written well to convey the accent. Knuckles is a black inspired character - from his locks down to his shoes. People should not seat away from his roots being "black" inspired. Idris Elba did well voicing Knuckles & giving him a black tough American/British accent. It worked well - way better than the voice actors for Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog, Sonic Boom & others. Once he is written accordingly, the writers can bring out that personality wise through an excellent story or script
Knuckles: Wah gwan mi fren?
Given that he's an Echidna, I always thought he should be Australian.
If we ever have Classic Knuckles speak again, he should have a Jamaican accent.
Now I'm picturing Knuckles walking around with a cutlass and mesh shirt.
There's not enough jamaican rep in media so in my heart he'll always be jamaican
Shadow's British accent in SA2 is my favorite across the series. It adds to various things he says in gameplay. I specifically like when he says "oops" when you run near a ledge
I've heard someone else say his voice can also be the Trans-Atlantic accent that was common in films during earlier decades, which is also subtlety British. I like both options for him.
Hard pass on the French Blaze. She should have an Arabic or Indian accent. If any character was going to have a French accent, it would be Rouge due to her name and the French accent's association with sensuality but that Bronx-Latina accent you showed was perfect too. And despite what some people might say, Shadow doesn't strike me as "African American", but rather just a white emo kid. Here are some that come to my mind:
Espio: HEAVY Japanese accent.
Amy: Valley Girl accent.
Big: Southern accent (think of Engineer from TF2).
The Babylon Rogues: New York accent.
Tails: Quaint British accent.
Eggman: Slight German accent.
Mephiles: VERY POSH British accent.
Vector: African American Vernacular English (He has the N word pass but refuses to say it).
Sonic: Surfer Dude accent.
Nah Eggman would have Slavo-German accent
I honestly dig the Russian Shadow. The Russian language itself often comes as either intimidating or suave silver tongued, both aspect of his personality in SA2.
@@themissakura599 factually incorrect.
I don't think they really need accents. There characters are fine.
I see sonic as more of a rockstar/skater dude, personally
I think so. It could give each character their own feel and make them all sound distinct in their own ways.
They already are distinct in there own way. Accents really arent always that neccesary in every character concepts.
I agree! Knuckle’s voice work in the Sonic 2 movie is a prime example of accents being used to add more flavor to a character! Sure, they don’t *need* accents but they bring a lot more personality to certain characters! It’s like salt, you don’t need it, but sometimes it can be used as a good flavor enhancer!
honestly yeah
Not gonna lie you head on the nail with Rouge

Yes sir, the more british video game characters the better!
I love how he says that Cream is basically a normal person with no powers and completely forgets how she can casually lift Big The Cat who is 616 pounds and still fly in the air with her bunny ears. And that's not even counting that she also carries Amy and her giant metal hammer. Oh and if that wasn't crazy enough she is also only 6 years old.
Some accents I think could work with some Sonic characters
Espio - Japanese
Vector - Boston/New York
Storm - Russian (It Just Sounds Funny)
Storm will send Eggman to gulag
I'd do anything for a drunk Russian Storm, a bastard wife Wave, and a violent husband Jet.

What about Australian for Vector?
Vector should sound like he’s from Atlanta IMO.
@@ClassicSonicRules Fun Fact: Ever since Generations, Sonic and his friends have Italian, French, Spanish, and German voice actors.
What's really funny is when i was playing Murder of Sonic over call with some friends, one of my friends (who isn't really familiar with Sonic) gave Blaze a British accent and Rouge a southern accent.
On the topic of accents, Espio should totally get a Japanese accent.
The fact that most of the english-speaking people actually believe that the accent Knuckles should have it's from ANY part of Africa, renders me shocked.
Knuckles' *TRIBU* it's inspired by both Mexican and Perubean culture. this isn't some obscure fact or anything like that, Takashi Iizuka has told the story of Sonic Adventure's development over and over again, he explicitly narrated how they traveled to Center/South America, took inspiration from it, and even use real-life photos as textures for the game. Even the pyramid we see in the center of the jungle, the one that opens the gates into the Lost World level, it's an exact replica of the Kukulkán's Pyramid, which it's LATINA
Africans weren't the only ones who used spears, painted their faces, and built pyramids. In fact, their architecture and clothing doesn't even resemble Mexico/Peru.
Knuckles is LATINO, not AFRICAN ¡POR AMOR A DIOS!
(Muting answers btw, it's been 3 weeks of non-stop arguing, lol)
He was originally based off of jamaican culture, with his colors, his dreads and apparently at one point was going to have a jamaican accent. In the Adventure series, he was associated with Mexico/Central America (considering Tikal was named after Tikal, Guatemala) AND also Black American culture, with his music being both jazz and rap from SA1 and SA2. So why can't he be a black latino?
@@Chaos-om4oh I don't think music it's enough of a representetion argument when it comes to the Sonic franchices, after all, Sonic itself, the main character, has been represented by different kind of music by both American and Japanese rock, synthwave, and even Hardcore.
Knuckles has been represented by "generic adventurer" músic, rap, hiphop, synthwave, rock, jazz, and the echidna tribe was represented with simple percussion rhythms accompanied by choruses (Something that could be both Latino or African)
Unlike the clothing and architecture, the music representation has never been as consistent.
knuckles has locs.. and afro-latinas exist
wait knuckles is British in the movie? I thought that was supposed to be like knuckles using some obscure tribal accent?????? That did NOT come off as british at ALL
His actor is British
God, please make this a series!! I love this kind ideas and experimentation! It definitely gives the characters a different feel, kinda like TF2
Hell yeah TF2
Giving Knuckles a Bronx/New York accent is interesting, but I feel like right now, the VAs for Team Sonic are all perfectly fine and should probably remain untouched. Your takes on the other 4 though sound really interesting, especially for Rouge. I'd actually really like to see that experimented with, whether it be a new game or the next show. Also, yeah, the VA for Shadow in Omens was pretty eh. I'm fine with the portrayal Kirk Thorton gives him, even if I prefer Griffith's voice.
Kirk based Shadow’s voice off a Clint Eastwood. So Southern?

I like to imagine Knuckles with an Australian accent, as echidnas are from Australia. I feel it would add to his "treasure hunter" vibes.
Shadow having an accent is an interesting idea because the name "Robotnik" is Polish in origin. So one could say that Dr. Gerald spoke with a polish accent and thus Shadow would adopt said accent.

Knuckles with a bronx accent hit me the exact same way it hit you bro. It's brilliant.
British Cream and Vanilla does actually seem like it'd fit really well.
Blaze always struck me as more Arabian with the gem on her forehead and the look of her palace.
Rouge with a latina voice is an absolutely perfect fit, but i don't know sbout it being cannon. By that logic, Knuckles should be Aussie and Sonic would be more likely to be British.
On an unrelated note, i knida like the sound of a British Sonic. I think it fits rather nicely. Also an Aussie knuckles would be pretty badass. Russian Shadow... I think it could work, it's just that the pre-existing example isn't a very good one.
I'm all for more british characters, but idk if Sonic fits, Cream fits like a glove though.
HEY! Be specific, Sticks' accent is Staten Islander (sounds like '90s Brooklyn at times, which is the stereotypical "New Yorker" Hollywood likes to portray)!
Give Sonic a New Yorker accent
(My thoughts before seeing the video:)
Personally, I think the most fitting characters to give accents (if they HAD to) would be Knuckles, Blaze, and Silver. Knuckles because he lives on a VERY remote island, Blaze because she lives in an ALTERNATE DIMENSION, and Silver because he's from so far in the future that dialects are bound to change/mix. I dunno what exact accents I'd give them, but they seem most fitting.
(My thoughts after seeing the video:)
You playing that clip of Jennifer Lopez convinced me that Rouge should have that accent. Other than that, I think Shadow could do well with a slight Japanese accent, another commenter made me realize that Blaze should have an Arabian-sounding accent (but not one-to-one since, again, she's from an alternate dimension), and my other opinions are unchanged.
I want sonic to have a Scottish accent don't know why
"looks like the British accent isnt going away anytime soon" yeah, we colonise everything
On the subject of British Knuckles, funnily enough, a channel called Adrenaline Dubs did an April Fool's dub of Issue 82 of the Fleetway comics, where they gave Knuckles a "roadman" accent. For those who don't know what that means, it refers to a Brit in the lower class who is ill-mannered, violent, and often wears sportswear and gold jewelry. I thought the accent actually fit Knuckles in a weird sort of way.
They already do.
American is an accent.
I love these ideas.
So many of the women sound the same, and Sega really needs to spice things up a bit. I like the idea of Wave the Swallow having a bronx and / or Latina accent, and personally, I think Blaze should have an Arabic or Indian accent.
Silver would be really interesting with a slight Italian accent since he was originally supposed to be named after the city Venice.
And the new characters from Idw like Lanolin and Whisper and Surge would be perfect to give accents too, such as Russian, French, or Brazilian.
(Also Dr Starline has to be voiced by RuPaul, there is no other option)
i think it'd be cool to see accents for these characters, since sonic is a major media franchise
yknow? if you're going to take inspiration from real cultures (see: maya, inca, aztec empires were very direct inspirations for the stuff on angel island), the least you could do is pay your respects to them!
relatedly, making knuckles not blunt and ignorant, but just... unfamiliar with the cultural norms of his friends, both due to a different upbringing and social isolation
I hope to see you continue these Sonic accent ideas in the future, because this was a fun video.
Knuckles having a New Yorker accent could work, makes him sound pretty tough naturally.
I remember seeing some odd Sonic factoid a long time ago that said originally they wanted Knuckles to speak with a Jamaican accent in the late 90s.
Guessing, that might have been scraped with the unfortunate stereotype of portraying Knuckles like a Jamaican pothead.
The Latina/Bronx angel for Rouge work good too.
I could see her being cute and flirty one moment and switching on a dime to cursing someone out in a second.
It would definitely give Rouge a more unique voice than just "flirty valley girl".
Blaze as French is something I very really thought about, but it could really be solid for her if done right.
Sure, I'm used to Blaze having some British tones to her voice, but seeing how well see handles a rapier, that just screams French.
And Vanilla and Cream being prim and proper Brits is quite fitting.
Plus, for Vanilla becoming a "British Milf" my mind automatically wandered to Bayonetta's voice.
Vanilla sounding like Bayonetta is kinda cursed to me, idk why.
If you ever do a part two, I want to know what accents would work with Amy or Tails! This video honestly made me more interested in sonic (and got me browsing through every social media platform looking for Latina Rouge-)

I’m honestly kinda surprised nobody brought up the fact that Silver is Italian. He was introduced in a game set in the Sonic world equivalent to Venice Italy, and his SATBK counterpart uses a sword that strongly resembles an Italian long dagger called a cinquedea. It seems that Sega is heavily implying that our beloved Psychic time-traveller is also an Italian…

These were some interesting takes, man's clearly loves his Brits 😆 I really did like Knuckle's Bronx accent in Prime and I guess the idea of Blaze sounding slightly French wouldn't be too bad. I'm a bit undecided with Rouge being Latina because like what if SHE sounded French too? Honestly, I feel like those could go either way but they'd both be fun & interesting! But what about like the hard-hitting questions like, why isn't Espio Japanese? Or, what if Vector was African American? I feel like those could also be included in the discussion.
My ideas:

Rouge: Slightly hispanic.
Amy: American Accent
Cream: Uhh idk. British is fine.

The Bronx African and Bronx Latina is the power couple of the century.
They do speak in accents. Though some distinct accent variety would be definitely be interesting.
Every time you said "The" British accent I wanted to scream.
Cream and her mum's accents should be something far less posh than Blaze's. I think Welsh (midwalian, not gog nor hwntw) could work, but just generally less posh inidentifiable English, maybe Northern could work.
I think there's still potential in an American Rouge. Kazuki Evans has to be the best Rouge I've heard in years, and considering she tends to voice many beautiful characters it's like she was made for the role.
The Bronx/Latina accent for Rouge is literally perfect for her! I usually don't get hung up on accents (unlike others who I've seen flip tables because of an accent done wrong). I think, if the characters had accents but weren't that strong, I'd totally be okay with it.
Blaze's Sol Dimension reminded me so much of Aladdin and the castle of Jasmine. Her whole aesthetic and clothing reminds me of South-Asia and the Middle East.

Rouge:Latina
Shadow: no accent
Blaze: French
Cream and Vanilla:British

You`re a freacking genius please give me a hand so i can shake it man) I never expect that you are going to talk about russian voice-acting segment.
Building off of the idea that a lot of people hear David Humphrey’s Shadow as a weird mix of American/British: I think it would be cool if Shadow had a very *slight* mid-Atlantic/transatlantic accent. The transatlantic accent caught on during the golden age of Hollywood when actors/actresses were taught how to ‘sound’ both British and American so both audiences would be able to understand the characters. And the accent wasn’t limited to just movies - people doing radio broadcasts, news, TV shows, etc used it. Considering that Shadow kind of grew up during that era, I don’t think it would be out of place for him to sound vaguely American/British at times.
I always thought Knuckles ought to have an Aussie accent being an echidna and all but I won't lie, a New York/Caribbean accent does match him pretty well. A French Blaze though? Mmm I can't say I agree with that one myself. I can definitely see where you're coming from but I think British would suit her better than French. I've seen comments suggesting Indian or Arabic and either of those would probably work too if they were subtle.
For some reason, I have a false memory of Knuckles and Shadow being British in Sonic X when I watched it as a kid. I rewatched most of season 1 recently and realized that they did not, but because Sonic X was one of my first experiences with those characters (my first Sonic game was Secret Rings and if they were in that, then I never got to the point where they appeared), and I falsely remembered them having accents, I’ve always thought that they should, and I still do think they should.
A British accent really fits Tails tbh, I can picture him with this chipper Cockney type accent. I think it'd sound cute
Also, Tangle the Lemur has a country accent
Might be an unpopular opinion but I think a southern accent would fit for rouge, idk why though
As a Southerner, I'd be okay with it, but I think a French, Russian, Hispanic, or even British one would fit better.
Nah, Shadow needs his British accents. That's the part of him that makes him sound so cool. That's why David Humphrey is still the best Shadow we've ever had.
How about Cajun for Big? If accents give vibes, Cajun for me is very chill and laid back. And what is more laid back than a man who spends his time fishing and just being with his frog?
I kinda like the idea of shadow being Russian just because him cursing in Russian would be hilarious

Rouge: French, hear me out I think it fit well. A famous fictional phantom thief is Arsen Lupin was french. Rouge=Res in French.
Shadow: Russian or Polish any slav nation accent. Since at lest its possible Robotnik lineage are quit possibly Slavics. I think giving Shadow accent is still possible.

That was a great video. Ngl Blaze with a French or British accent would be a big odd but would also just be cute and make sense considering her royalty lol
There’s a character named Tina Russo in the Looney Tunes show. She’s a duck who speaks with a NJ accent. Because of this, when I read the IDW comics, I hear Wave the swallow talk with a New Jersey accent.
Knuckles is canonically Jamaican so I personally think he should have a Jamaican/Bronx accent, I think it’s pretty unique and it would suit him very well
Bruh, that Bronx Latina accent for Rouge is gold. I would not be mad if they just suddenly changed it.
Same, but you know how the sonic fans are, any little change and people go to war over it.
My own personal thoughts:
1. I believe the Bronx accent is the best choice for Knuckles. Like it was said in the video, it matches his no nonsense personality and if the voice direction was good enough, it would not sacrifice the maturity the character also is supposed to sport.
2. I think a Latina accent would work best for Rouge due to her sassy yet serious personality. Plus, her dialogue could been given some Spanish-related vocabulary from time to time to add a bit of flair.
3. I think a British accent is the best option for Blaze due to her serious nature and her links to royalty. All I ask for though is that it remain deep to better depict the character’s sense of responsibility.
4. Shadow does not need an accent in my opinion. His deep voice already helps translate very well to audiences the kind of serious, lone wolf character he is. There is no need to add more to it.
5. Vanilla having a British accent would work perfectly. She has a cultured personality, depicted both in her actions and dress. All I ask is that it be soft to continue highlighting her well known pacifistic nature.
6. Although Cream having an accent to match a potential one for Vanilla would make sense, I find the voice she has already to be a perfect display of the sweet character she is supposed to be.
I'D LOVE to hear Rouge with a Hispanic (especially Honduran) accent! It will be awesome to have Honduras get more popularity and as an Honduran it would be awesome having my favorite franchise have an Honduran.
Actually Rouge means "red" in French , which fits her smooth talking nature.
Maybe she could bust into Spanish when she gets worked up.
Kinda like how I picture Fang having an accent range from plain to random to Cajun.

Should they introduce characters who have accents? Sure, by all means.
Should they hire voice actors who have an accent if they can play the character well? Sure.
Should they have voice actors without accents put on an accent for specific characters? Outside of Vector (whose best voice was in Heroes), personally no.

I agree with all of your experiments except for Blaze being French. I really think a soft regal British accent works best for her, especially when you think about Black Knight. I can hear her with that type of accent.
