Yeah I’m sick of shipping wars in general. I enjoy SonAmy, but there’s nothing wrong with people enjoying other ships. Shipping is meant to be a fun fandom past time for the individual, not a stressful argument.

When you mentioned a "twist" I thought you were going to bring up how Sonic CD breaks convention by not having Sonic and Amy get together in the end. Amy's love for Sonic is unrequited. That to me was the most interesting part of their dynamic. Nowadays it seems like she's not allowed to show her affection anymore because so many people thought she was "annoying". It's not like she was one-dimensional either. From as early as Sonic Adventure we see that her personality isn't JUST that she likes Sonic. She's an obnoxious romantic but also a bleeding heart. Her emotional personality has a huge effect on other characters. Her kindness is what turned Gamma good, and she helped Shadow remember Maria's wish. She doesn't need to be a more active fighter to be a better character. Amy's passion is what defines her.
Exactly. I feel like so many people assume all female characters have to be "strong female character tm" cardboard cutouts to be good characters. Its so annoying.

Reminds me of when she helped that bird find its family. The only problem was that her relationship with Sonic was never explored like the other characters.

Agreed! When I was younger, I never related to Sally, I saw myself more in characters likes Amy's passion and kindness.
Amy definitely reached a low-point with Sonic Battle and other similar appearances where she was treated like a yandere. (Granted the whole "no way out of marrying me" from Heroes was probably more just playful teasing and a joke.)
Her appearances since Sonic 06 have been much kinder to the character and show that she is more than just a fan. She is a friend and a powerful ally. She's shown a lot of maturity, taking up leadership in Sonic's absence and putting her feelings out of mind because she knows Sonic doesn't feel comfortable with commitment just yet and because she wants to put all of that energy into doing good things.
There is 3 ways to end a shipping war
1. Everybody grows up and gets tired of it
2. People respect each other's opinions
3. "What about all of them shipped together?"
Option 4 : Make all the ships non canon
Option 5 : new ship and make it canon
Option 6 : hate all ships
Option 7 : all of the characters stop being friends

I remember the whole SonAmy vs Sonally fights, to this day it's one of the dumbest things I've seen people fight over. In the end none of it matters because Sally's not even canon to the games and now only exists in outdated media. Amy's love for Sonic has taken more of a backseat.
To me, the only reason why people ship characters is because they want to see them bang.
I feel like had it not been for the Sonic fanbase that would cause Sega to match their envisionings of making Sonic look bad for being single and wanting to save lives, Amy and Sally would never have written to want to hit him just because he thinks he’s a hero and doesn’t want them to try to date him without his consent.
I kinda wish there was less fanfiction where characters banged for the ships I like, I just want fluff and relationship dynamics. Luckily I never got into sonic shipping, so, never ran into any untagged sonic smut.

I remember more so with Sally considering you use get "DeviantArt" images with Amy decapitating Sally with axes, daggers, and other weapons. Plus, there use to be a big forum for it on old cites during the mid to late 2000's.
@@Power-9Hunnid God damn! when I was really into reading Sonic fanfiction there would be stories where Amy was written as a straight up horror movie stalker or ones with Sally where she bullies Amy to show that she's bad for Sonic while Amy is in an abusive relationship with Scourge or Shadow. They would have them act completely out of character due to the writer's thinly vailed hate for the character.

thats how I see most sonic media, all the shows are their own universe, unless specified outright, genesis games are all the same, dreamcast are supposed to be genesis era older, but i never followed that in my headcanon, cause the random appearance of other humans, cities and what not didnt make sense lol but yeah they're all their own thing, plus its more variety

Actually, towards the end of its run, even the Archie comics erased SonAlly from its canon. They kind of built up Sally and Nicole near the finish line, and SonAlly was never touched on again.
For my two cents, Sally was always hit or miss for me. I was not her biggest fan, but I also didn't think she was as horrible as some people said. I also found her relationship with a Sonic a bit unhealthy at times, but there was also some good. Honestly, my biggest problem with Sally was just how much they tried to sexualize her back then. That I could've gone without.
And my views on Amy are kind of like a roller-coaster. She was cute in CD, and I loved her in Adventure. Adventure 2 had that marriage joke, but I enjoyed her presence overall. Heroes is where we started to get a wackier Amy. I took it just fine in Heroes because the overall tone of that game was lighthearted and goofy, so I just took it as Amy's crush getting turned up to 11. Plus, I did admire her dedication to helping Cream and Big find their lost friends.
Sonic X is where I think we truly started to see what would be Amy's character portrayal for the mid 2000s: hot-tempered, feisty, cartoony, but with a heart of gold. This is what I like to call Amy's "anime girl" phase as I feel she really did portray the common tropes of female anime characters at the time, and this would continue in the games until about Unleashed.
In Unleashed, Amy is very much her mid 2000s self, but there is some evidence of maturity to her character and her relationship with Sonic. One high point I feel like mentioning is Amy stating that even if Sonic is werehog, she would still love him. It honestly felt like Unleashed was going to be the starting point of Amy maturing.
And then the 2010s started.
Oh, boy. The beginning of the new decade was clearly Amy's low point in portrayal. She truly became an annoying character in Free Riders and Generations, and her relationship with Sonic suffered as a result. However, I also believe most other characters suffered from the writing of this time. Amy just might have gotten the worst of it (rivaled only by Shadow).
However, something rather odd happened next: Lost World. In this game, we see a very gentle and mature Amy, one comforting small animals and even Sonic being quite comfortable around her. We did not see this explored too much because Lost World's story really wasn't told, but Amy's character was certainly noticeable.
Sonic Boom, I think, is where we started to see the modern Amy begin to develop: she matured, expressed love to all life, but was also a little comedic. She was also shown to be a leader in Forces (a more mature version of her Heroes portrayal), but Forces couldn't focus on its story for us to really see more of Amy.
Then IDW really expanded this Amy.
This is also around the time that some people said Amy just became Sally, a statement I don't agree with because Amy could still be pretty whacky and would have hobbies and moments I could not see Sally do.
Since then, we've gotten Frontiers and Prime, both of which show Amy as the kind hearted, level-headed lover of life.
I've overall enjoyed Amy. Her early 2010s moments left a bad taste in my mouth, but she's gotten better, and I can't wait to see more of her.
And Sally... she was okay. I don't think she was spectacular or anything, but she could be solid. I'm not sure if we'll ever see her again (SEGA seems really keen on forgetting about her at the moment), but I'm open to it. If she's truly gone, I'm glad she had her time to shine.
My two cents.
The writers in the end of Archie be like: Nicole became the big gay, like, fuck it, we're gonna have bisexual Sally Lmao.
But yeah, I agree with you in everything here, modern Amy isn't just reskin Sally, she still have some moments and characteristics that aren't applicable with Sally, maybe it's because of a little more serious and leadership moments but that's it, Amy still have more potential to be exploited, it's good to see how her modern counterpart is going into the mature path and being expanded.

for me at least, i found Amy to be her best when her motives arent sonic related, ironically. Which is why I think the frontiers route for the character is for the best. Also, I would take the end of the archie comics with a grain of salt as it was a soft-reboot.
Well said. I really like Sally a lot when she's not paired with Sonic, but then again, I'm not sure I like Sonic paired with anyone, (he doesn't seem that into relationships).
For Sonic fans who make fun of the mario series, remember that franchise ended with the two heroines controversy ending as a joke, and that both peach and Pauline were actually great heroines to Mario. Foolish fans like those who sent death threats to sally and amy have been ignored as mere insane opinions when sent to them.

Honestly, I just wish one day Amy become a great character with a cool character arch like Knuckles or Blaze, for me she always deserved better, i mean, Amy is slowly entering into this path, the shipping doesn't matter much now, i really hope Sega never treats her like in the 2000's again.

Sadly, that won't happen, as (unless I'm mistaken) Sally isn't owned by Sega. Nor is anyone from the older Sonic cartoons. Not sure about Sonic Prime or Sonic Boom, though.
EDIT: Turns out Sega of America owns Sally, the Freedom Fighters, and several other characters from the cartoon and comic series, but Sega of Japan does not.
I doubt any of the freedom fighters will be in the comics. Especially considering the IDW comics are now technically canon (thanks to sonic casually mentioning Tangle in Frontiers).

The thing I care about, is the fact that Amy’s character is so much better now. Honestly I do agree with your take on Amy sort of becoming the new Sally. A strong leader, who is willing to take on as much responsibility as necessary (hell up until Jewel came in and became the Director of the restoration… Amy was literally doing everything for that organization)
Though that does make it morally confusing, like the message is " if you cause division, change everything about yourself"
Idk. I kinda miss Amy being a secretly magical girl that opens up to others. Know she just seems physically strong without supernatural abilities. I don't mind her strong leadership. But she just seems physically strong as knuckles, which I am not satisfied with. People might call this growth and maturity, but it kinda seems forced and inconsistent like how pariah695 would put it.
We definitely don't need Sally in the canon. But maybe she could work as silver's companion from the future. Making her a robot from the future could work as silver's big sister robot figure.

I’ve been thinking of making a fan game strictly about Sally and the freedom fighters, but seeing as I have little to no experience in game design, I can only hope that my dream can become reality.
sadly you know who is very VERY hunt-and-takedown about anything related to the comics if you use all the characters. so even if you did, you'd have to be very careful *which* freedom fighters you have.

Same. I personally like Sally more because she has a drive to keep her people and group safe as well as liberate Mobius from the big bad. Yeah the romance was there but it was just a passing thing between Sally and Sonic but it wasn't all that was centered on, just them seeing each other as equals and fighting for freedom and all that jazz was fun.
At least Amy is being less creepy and obsessed and being her own girl. Still can't top Sally or Bunnie Rabbot but still she's decent.
I miss Sonic SatAM... where it was adventures and crazy plans with some seriousness to it. Plus missing the days where I didn't understand what Shipping Wars were about.
I'd like to see a canon couple. Especially with that extremely rare/or cut voice line said by Sonic in Frontiers. It took me by surprise when I heard the voice file.

the lines weren't cut though, just hard to trigger cuz you had to stand still for 10 minutes in certain areas to hear them

Frontiers really fixed most of the weirdest side of the main characters. There's what you mentioned about Amy in the video, but there's Sonic becoming less idiotic, not making jokes every 5 seconds, they retconed tails back into the best side of his character instead of a scaredy cat, Sonic and Knuckles look like siblings/rivals now and Knuckles isn't a wooden door in terms of IQ, the new character Sage is really good and Eggman really cared about her as a daughter. I hope that maintain what they did in Sonic Fronteirs.

Funny story: I somewhat grew up thinking that Sonic and Amy being boyfriend and girlfriend was actually CANON.
I got this idea from the Mario and Sonic Olympic Winter Games DS game, which was sort of my introduction to Sonic's cast of characters for real. When you meet Amy in it, she calls Sonic her boyfriend and Sonic looked apprehensive as usual. But here's the thing: Sonic has NO DIALOGUE in this game, so dumb-kid me thought that Sonic was EMBARRASSED instead of rejecting her.
When I watched a couple of SATAM episodes from Blockbuster rentals, I was confused by the Freedom Fighters and by extension, Sally. I was thinking, "wait, where's that Knuckles guy? Why is this chipmunk girl Sonic's girlfriend instead of Amy? Where IS Amy anyways?" I read some of the Archie comics in my kidhood, too, but REALLY out of order and all over the place. So I always thought Sally was just...there, really.
When I tried out my first actual Sonic game, Unleased for Wii, I got far enough to see the cutscene where Amy confuses Werehog Sonic for plain-old Sonic. After she left thinking Werehog Sonic was someone else and Sonic looked solemn, I thought Sonic was just hurt that who I assumed was his girlfriend didn't recognize him and there would eventually be a Beauty and the Beast situation later. I didn't get far in the game, though: the early Chun-Nan level with the Great Wall of China was apparently too hard for me. And when I tried out Black Knight next, Sonic getting visibly disturbed over the Lady of the Lake looking like Amy was just him getting embarassed again.
I'll tell ya, when I discovered that Amy was actually in a stalker-like relationship with Sonic and he refuses the relationship stuff with her, my stupid mind had to reset for a bit.
*TLDR;* Growing up, I thought Sonamy was unironically canon for the longest time.
Amy was never in a stalker-like relationship with Sonic though. In fact, nothing about her was a stalker at all. That's just something the American fanbase labeled her as to discredit her and make her look bad. She had to follow Sonic cause she almost is always left out of the adventures he goes on with Tails (and sometimes Knuckles), and Amy just wants to be part of that adventure too instead of being stuck at home and being bored. Amy actually shares a good number of traits with Sonic. Wanting to do what they feel is right, loving adventure, and hating boredom. Anyone still using Heroes needs to shut the bloody hell up already. She was fighting Sonic was only because she thought Sonic took Froggy and Chocola, but it was METAL Sonic while pretending to be Sonic that did that. Also, she never left Cream and Big UNTIL they found Froggy and Chocola, which they did of course. So whoever tried to convince you Amy was a stalker, they were dead wrong about her.

An old trope of sweet girl that is "secretly" violent. Coupled with how Sonic would be visible uncomfortable or fearful when she's around and her randomly appearing to flirt and/or hug him (or anyone that liked like Sonic), has all the vibes of a stalker.
Sega flanderized her character hell at Adventure 1 and kept this a running gag until around Sonic Lost World.

I am indifferent on shipping/having the characters in relationships, but if characters _do_ date, then I just want it to be important to the plot or their character. For example, Knuckles and Rouge being hinted at in SA2 added a layer to Knuckles’ character since that stuff would be very unfamiliar to him and would kind of introduce a new side to him.
Regardless, SEGA has mandates that forbid characters from dating anyways so oh well lol
The funny thing about Knuckles and Rouge’s romantic tension in SA2 is his character file back in the S3&K states, for seemingly no reason, that he isn't good with girls. Kinda makes you wonder if they were already toying with the idea to give Knuckles a pseudo-love interest back then.

I'm more of a Sonamy person (I mean look at my pfp) but I personally think that this war was just incredible obtuse, we don't need to start a decade(s) long controversy over something so small. The Sonic fan base is scary as hell sometimes.

I consider myself a fandom veteran. The secret is... You don't have to only ship one thing. You can ship Sonamy and Sonally nobody will stop you. Because of how the universe itself is (games/shows/comics all being sort of separate) different ships make sense in different circumstances. It doesn't have to be pure devotion to something for the sake of it. Just do what makes you happy but remember everyone else in the fandom is also trying to be happy and don't attack anyone unprovoked. Hell you can even ship Sally and Amy if you want (maybe not in the storylines where Amy is 12 tho). But basically as long as everyone is chill there's nothing wrong with different ships. Personally like Sonado here
i agree 100% , im a multi-shipper so i never understood the ship wars. i left all that nonsense in my teenage years, but i see people my age --and older!-- still partaking in it o.o i have shipped sallamy in the past, it's cute. my top two ships are sontails and sonadow ^-^

What's wrong with shipping Tails & Cream? Kids can have innocent romances too, even though Tails x Cosmo got dark by the end of Sonic X because of spoilers in Episode 77. Tails & Cream ship really well together, & Tails has plenty of love interests despite his young age. Multishipping is good, no need to war over love.

As a kid, I used to be a diehard sonamy shipper, then I stumbled upon sonic satAM... Didn't bother me really, I really liked Sally so I shipped both but preferred sonamy, only reason I went through a phase of hating Sally and sonally later on was because of the fan animations that portrayed her out of character, then I stumbled upon the comics "wow amy and Sally getting along and not fighting over sonic's love, yay! " I went back to liking both but preferring sonamy (I still do) I love both female characters and hope Sally returns some day.

90"s kid here as far as America goes sonamy never existed till the release of Sonic Adventure ( sonic x to others). Sonic CD , sonic r and sonic drift 2 were the only games that came to the States but no one ever talked about amy. she even appeared in the archie comics but she didn't have a big role in the comics till they adapted Sonic Adventure story line to the comics.
European kids might have shipped sonamy back then since she had a major role in the sonic the comics , however most kids back in the day including Australia and South Korea didn't care about amy and shipped Sonic and sally since we were exposed to that media first. nice video but i would have done more research on this subject or got with someone who grew up in the 90's

I really didn't care about shipping Sonic. Since I only had knowledge of the games. But I must admit that Amy did grow as a character from Unleashed onward (skipping Free Riders because I didn't play it), and I am pretty glad that Amy now is a more serious and independent character than she used to be.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Amy had let Sonic go when she saw that he was in love with someone else. She even told that woman to take care of Sonic. That proves that Amy will choose Sonic's happiness over her own desires, even though it may mean that he wouldn't be with her.
Also, in Sonic Adventure, Amy went in front of Tails/Gamma and (most importantly from two different perspectives) Sonic. She didn't want Sonic to destroy Gamma, like he does with the other badniks, because she knew that Gamma was different. And Sonic listened to her!
Amy also went in between Sonic and Silver when Silver was about to kill Sonic. She allowed Sonic to escape as she stared down her new friend, who she thought was a good person.
I never been able to like Sally when she is a romantic partner to Sonic. So, I decided to ship her with Sonic's brother from a show called Sonic Underground. I am certain that Sally has some good qualities, but they felt overshadowed by her relationship with Sonic.
Besides, Sonic is a free spirit. He is always moving, always traveling. And he always have to go on these adventures. Shouldn't his love intrest complement that? Sally is a ruler of a kingdom, which would have tied him down. Amy loves adventure and doesn't mind traveling. But Sonic and Amy needs a break from one another so Amy can see who she actually is as a person.
I think that the main reason why either Amy or Sally where written out of character every now and then is because there are multiple writers trying to write them, but they only see one of their character traits (most likely their crush on Sonic), so those people wrote them like that. Amy stopped Sonic from killing her new friend, Gamma. Why would she do that if she idolized Sonic so much? Yet, no one will use that to try to explain why Amy is a good character. And that is one example that she has. I was never interested in the comics, so I don't know what character Sally truly has. But if she is anything like Amy, there is more to her than her love intrest with Sonic. I am just not interested in Sally to learn more about her character.

As an adult I respect both of them, as for the ships, hated them both cause the reason why Sonic stood out from the rest of the Heroes is that he doesn't wanna settle down and I appreciated that uniqueness

To me, Shipping becomes incredibly annoying when the shippers insist that it's 'Canon' and especially when they vocally want said ship to be focused on in it's main series.
For the shippers that insist it's canon there is no talking to them, they WILL bring out even the most minute, miniscule and even out of context 'evidence' that they WILL use everytime, and they WILL *NOT* ever take any criticism.
But for those that want their ship to actually be canonized in the main series like a show for example, what they wish for basically disrupts the entire flow of the show just so it can spend some time showing off this couple, and then episodes or just moments in an episode are made just to do *something* with that relationship which still completely disrupts any momentum the show had.
....... Or to put it simply, the best example being: Ash x Serena from the Pokémon animated series, like, there are Ash X Female for every companion he has had, but wow none are more obnoxious than the Serena shippers.

For context, the season she was in, her relationship with Ash was completely one sided from start to finish, Heck for the most part she basically never contributed as she would just follow and stand around Ash and his new companions of that season, infact whenever an episode focused more on her, it was literally just the same story from two earlier seasons with May and Dawn, being guess what? Contests yet again.
What I found amusing was that in Journeys, Serena was basically forgotten for most of it even though Ash and Goh had a few Kalos based episodes 'there was even a picture shown in one of those episode that, while it shown Ash and friends, Serena was missing from the picture' And insult to injury the one and only episode she actually shown up in, she spent the entire episode with Chloe, and at the end of the episode it ended on her only JUST seeing Ash as he and friends left on a boat,.. no words between them.
Your first 3 paragraphs tragically describe a number of Sonamy shippers that I have encountered.
They use even the most miniscule 'clue' to back up their claims that Sonamy is inevitable, and refuse to acknowledge that it actually WOULD disrupt the flow of the series if it happened.
I'm probably one of the few people on this earth that's not a toxic Sonic shipper. I grew up on the games, not the tv shows and comics like Sonic SatAM or all the jazz. And the first game I played was Sonic CD, which just so happened to debut Amy Rose (Rosy the Rascal as she was known back then) and just thought they looked cute together. I wasn't introduced to Sally until I was like in middle school and a friend showed me SatAM. I saw Sonic and Sally together and it honestly didn't bother me that much even though I have it in my head that Amy is Sonic’s love interest.

To me, it felt like two completely different stories. Given, I only watched the animated shows of sonic. The first one i watched was sonic x and I supported the Sonamy. Then I searched in CZcams for more sonic shows and found the one with Sally. I supported sonally in that show. They just felt completely different like two separate sonics. Then there was also sonic underground, which is also a completely different sonic. To me, each show felt like a completely different show/ take on sonic and that's why the relationship he had with the characters in each show were fine with me because they were all different sonics

I've always felt that the best way to handle this matter is to just accept that we're dealing with different versions of the story. Different Sonics, different worlds, different foes and, yes, different love interests. One can be with Sally while one can be with Amy. It's the same way that we can have, for instance, two different animated versions of DC's Robin, where one can get together with Starfire while another can be with Raven. No disputes necessary 😊

Amy really wasnt annoying or one dimensional in Sonic adventure 1 and 2 or shuffle and the advanced games, they ruined her in Heroes and managed to fix her for 06 and unleashed; Sadly they eventually ruined her again and I am very thankful that they finally fixed her again permanently with Frontiers
A bit of a shame that they kinda gutted how upbeat and energetic she was. Before they were able to balance that out pretty well in Adventure 1 with her actually doing stuff. Unleashed too since the most she went for was a hug and didn't actively try to bother him in his journey. Looking at Frontiers and Prime, she seems a lot sentimental instead, if that's the right word anyway.

In Frontiers, pretty much all her dialogue on the first island almost could have been used for Blaze instead and nobody would of even said anything was out of character behind the brief koco's finding their partner bit. Boom almost leaned on feminism from what I heard which makes since in today's era, but Frontiers she just seems like another Blaze now.
Speaking of which I still find it interesting Sonic Rush came out before 06 yet 06 still decided to contradict Blaze badly in just one game after. Also rare that a company makes a spin-off handheld game canon (later games/comics confirm Blaze from another dimension) and they retcon the console game.

Idk what I was expecting when I clicked on this vid, but it works. A lot of the shipping stuff is... weird, to say the least. A lot of people grow way too attached to characters (i'm very very guilty of this, but I've done better at not doing it) and try to ship every character every which way they can. It makes everything feel really childish and even gross in some cases (if you know, you really know). Best case we can do as a community is acknowledge that there are healthier ways to look at shipping in the franchise and accept that things don't always work the way we want, and maybe that even some characters shouldn't have ships or are better off avoiding most ships.

I think everyone should know that the reason why Sally won't be back in the Sonic series is because she was never made by Sega and was only part of the Sonic the Hedgehog 90s cartoon and the Archie Comics writing respectively. Remember that Sally Acorn was solely based off one of the background characters in the first Sonic game. Specifically one of the small animals Sonic saves from Robotnik/Eggman's robots, and one of those animals are chipmunks

Thats a love triangle thats sure to throw some sparks" or something similar to that, and in sonic x she hits on knuckles alot and theres some hints knuckles likes her.
I personally think shadouge makes much more sense. She keeps coming back to him for help and shes the only person shadow seems to actually want to be around.

By the time I got into Sonic, Sonic X was premiering. From then, I pretty much randomly experienced the series in random directions. The Canon of the games, shows, comics, and even country of origin until I had become an adult was murky to understand. As kids, we all have a shipping phase. Some of us still do it, but honestly, I just want to see all of the characters I know interact with one another. That might just be deep down what everyone wants.
I remember seeing Sally and Amy stand next to each other in the comics recently, and I thought that was really cool. I've come to see the games as the most important canon and Frontiers feels like they really have the opportunity to open the world up, let's see what happens lol

Now Id like to know your opinion on individual characters, specifically Blaze the Cat. I love her since release, but I'm curious to see how others view her since I dont see content with her often.
As someone who grew up on Sonic X, I saw the 90s cartoons and Archie comics as something that didn't feel like the Sonic I was familiar with. A lot of the times I saw Sally and the freedom fighters, and even Maniac and Sonia, I legitimately felt like I was watching a completely different show that didn't involve Sonic the hedgehog. Sonic, Tails and Dr. Robotnik were the only indicators that reminded that these older cartoons from the 90s were supposed to be the televised adaptations of the video games by Sega.
At least for Sonic X (leaving the other human characters aside) it felt more like it was trying to actually be more like the games at most times thanks to the adventure games. Mainline characters from the games I was familiar with.

While I love Sonamy still, I slowly stopped really caring about there being any ships in the franchise. I'm glad there's a shipping ban on official content. I feel like shipping wars would be reignited at full heat if Sega allowed couples back into the franchise that were anything other than two brand new characters that are very obviously dating or married from the first scene they appear in. And romance just has become an unnecessary story element in the majority of cases to me in general. Its just easier to let all of that go to fanfiction. Ive become partial to deep platonic relationships over romantic ones anyway. I love when besties/found family bond.

There's a lot of reasons for liking a ship. Maybe they aestheticly look good together, you maybe really like their dynamic, you maybe think they look really cute together, you maybe really like both characters and want them to be happy ect... Not every shipper ships for smut, they just really like that ship for one reason or another
Sally has always been a great character, and the freedom fighters worked as a means of expanding the cast for multimedia projects before the actual cast got to be properly expanded.
The real problem is there's no reason to have them anymore, and when they are here, Sally basically requires the story to revolve around herself.
I'd love for the chance for them to come back as a different form. Like, I think they'd be really cool to use to add world building to Blaze's world. Make the Acorn Kingdom be a neighboring kingdom past the ocean that makes up most of Blaze's kingdom, and Sally comes to ask for her help for an external threat from the other side of the map. This would also allow for a rebranded Shade to make a return. She could be another heel-face turning general or a war criminal/mercenary etc that joins them. There's good potential for a spin off series for this.

This! I just said the same thing in other comment. The Freedom Fighters were created to be the protagonists of the Archie Comics story, now that world is gone and they don't really need to come back.
The soft-reboot made them weaker characters already, bring them to the Sonic World and without all that context they will be unrecognizable. If that's the case, is better just to create new stuff.
My answer to this question is neither. Sonic doesn’t need romance, for his one true love is adventure.

I am that tiny bit of the fandom that never cared which ship was canon or not. While the shows, games, and comics all held some sorta connection, they all branch off and do their own things. At least, thats how I see it. In my eyes, as long as it was a good ship to see, thats all that matters to me.
