Curious about New Game Plus and the removal of previous Completionist episodes? The answers are in my update video: • The Future Of The Comp...
There's a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog games out there, with an eventual Sonic the movie coming out. Suffice to say, he's here forever. So instead of looking forward, let's take a look back to Sonic Adventure. One of the better 3D Sonic games that even established some principles of the franchise, such as introducing the homing attack. Let's take a look at this classic in my Sonic Adventure review!
Let me know what you thought about my Sonic Adventure review! Also let me know what other games I should re-complete for New Game Plus!

Almost every gaming channel in existence: *_Sonic has had a rough time ever since the jump to 3D..._*
Dude, why the hell are you everywhere? lmao
It's so true it hurts.
Colors and generations are great, I personally think forces is.
Heroes and riders are fun games, to relax.
@@someguy7526 Honestly Unleashed is good Forces aint tho
It’s the truth.
"Tails' creepily childish voice."
Well, he's a child, so...
I really liked his voice for it
@@sonicadventure3130 yea it feels genuine like Alphonse Elric was also voiced by a child in the first FMA
Personally it ain't so much that it's a kid, but that it's a kid that can't act. And I get it, acting is though and a kid obviously won't have that much experience bla bla bla. I don't want to shit on the kid, I'm sure he put a lot if efforts. But that monotone vouce with either huge excitement or no emotions at all just ruins the character for me
@@Pouilleux I agree with this, pretty sure the kid in the booth was just told to read what was in front of him with no feeling to it at all. It did sound pretty dead... x'D
Glad that you stuck to your guns rather than jumping on the bandwagon and ripping on this game. I'm sick of everyone telling me sonic sucks because it's the cool thing to do
People don't say sonic sucks because its a cool thing to do. People say sonic sucks because a vast majority of sonic games suck.
@@Chugalg that comment leads me to believe you haven't actually played that meny of them
Chugalg there are only like two that actually suck, and that’s coming from a guy that’s played all of them. What exactly is your expertise?
EC Repp sonic fans put up with way too much crap, a lot of them are subpar but you guys will sear to everyone that theyre great games, Sega is really damn lucky to have such dedicated fans
Daniel Requena I’ve really only been disappointed in three of the mainline games, and I won’t hold back any criticism towards stuff that I don’t like. I think that the problem comes from people who haven’t actually played the games that watched a Game Grumps video one time and said that it must be bad because internet person said so
Every intro to a 3D Sonic game review:
Sonic has had a rough time in 3D...
Not in Sonic Colors....... Sonic's having a great time in that one.
@@13KuriMaster Careful. I've heard that's a hot topic.
P.S. I totally agree tho.
@@13KuriMaster But it's barely in 3D.
I like every single mainline 3D Sonic game. Even Shadow and 06.
@@Gnidel Barely in 3D is still in 3D.
"Sonic has a rough time in 3D"
Since 06 and the boost formula.
I like the Adventure duology a lot like the Genesis games and Mania.
Personally, never liked the boost formula.
Man, a remake of Sonic Adventure (and Adventure 2) on the level of the Crash and Spyro remakes would be a dream come true
I agree!
"Devo andare veloce" = "I must go fast"
For non italian speakers.
I'll take it! I'll take 12!
Nice thing about the Gamecube version is you can unlock roms of the Game Gear games of Sonic which is better then just "Metal Sonic Skin" and you can still get that skin.
But they released collections of all the Sonic games on their classic consoles, like Sonic Spinball, Sonic 1-3, etc. I think the compilation was called "Sega Gems" or some shit? Either way, it makes the ports on the GameCube version a little pointless. Nevertheless, it was still cool to see older Sonic games on the DX version of the game as a kid -- especially since I hadn't really played 2D Sonic games aside from Sonic Advance 3 at the time.
@@themadhattress5008 Sonic Gems is indeed what it is called. I happen to have both for the Gamecube. That being said Sonic Adventure DX was 2 years earlier then the Gems Collection. The collection was literally the same games you could get in DX plus Sonic CD. As for being redundant, yeah it kind of was.
It was nice for easy accessibility. It was like "Hey, I can take a bit of a break from this and give this old game I unlocked a spin!"
Could unlock those in the PC version I had too, if I remember correctly.
This is honestly one of my all time favorite games
Same here!
Cringe
I played SA1 for the first time this year and still absolutely loved it. The cutscenes have aged poorly and sure, it’s a bit glitchy, but the level design and soundtrack are brilliant. Sega NEED to remake this game
A bit glitchy?
As much as Sega loves pushing the nostalgia factor for Sonic (God, Classic Sonic has been in pretty much every major release since Generations), they could stand to remake the older games. Another option they could take so they don't have to shoehorn Classic Sonic into a game with the exact same formula as Generations/Unleashed is they could go the "Mario Maker" route. Yeah, it'd be cheap and they'd get shit for basically doing what Nintendo has done, but allowing people to make their own classic -- or even modern -- Sonic levels would be incredible in terms of innovation. If only Sonic were handled well enough and was more respected by Sega themselves.
They did remake it.....for gamecube
Max Attax That was a “remaster” which was actually worse than the original in several ways. I’m talking a Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy style remake
@@manimanistatue I dunno, SA1 holds uo a fair bit so a remake would be great... SA2... that game NEEDS to be remade due to it's broken elements plus put that Sumo Digital touch on those Kart levels.
So... Does anyone else think that Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 deserve the N. Sane (and Reignited) treatment?
Yes totally escpecially Adventure 1
or just sonic adventure 3.
Very much so, especially since the ports somehow were worse because of glitches
@@fluffyking94 Sonic Team isn't good enough to make SA3 at the moment. Maybe in 5-10 years.
No because they are bad!
It's so refreshing to hear someone on the internet not default to Sonic hate.
Jirard: "SADX on Gamecube is the most definitive version."
The PC version with the Better SADX patch: *_"Am I a joke to you?"_*
The definitive official version.
iirc Jirard always steers clear of the modding communities for his videos. He rarely even mentions them in his videos. But hey, that's what other CZcamsrs are for.
That's mostly because he only covers official licensed products from the corporation themselves; if he covers mods, he'll lose revenue.
Wait sonic was on pc officially? Huh never seen it
@@GDRunny Sonic games have been on Steam for the past decade, my friend...
Still one of my all-time favorite games.
Lol this was my favorite game as a kid you’re a champ
MONSTER JUICED GANGSTER for me it was adventures 2 :D this one is the first I had though, I loved it!
I didnt enjoy adventure too much

@@misterhimura036 cool. Wow that really makes me sad, i REALLY WANTED SOMEONE TO CARE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 LIKE REALLY DID 😭😭😭😭😭😭
SA1 was my favorite as a kid too!!
Sonic Adventure DX for PC is the better way to go because of the fantastic amount of mods avalible that not only help fix the bugs but add features like Super Sonic in normal levels and additional skins textures and some new and older levels.
Yeah, but only the retail Disc version.
@@YujiUedaFan no even the steam version can be modded to the levels I describe, as that its the current version I play.
Yeah, but you're saying it's good because people went and mod this game for almost 15 years so it could eventually be a decent version true to the original game (And it's still really far from done)
@@atre5763 Fuck outta here.
This is the New Game Plus episode ive been waiting for!
Sonic Adventure 1+2 needs a remake collection
ikr
Yes, also, the plot for both games are way better than that bad fanfiction by Paramount.
Star masterc
Lol, so true
just throw away sonic adventure 1 and 2 and create a all new sonic game, and just add in SA2 Chao garden
Yeah they could use a patch tbh
The proper way to play Sonic Adventure, *PC version with Dreamcast conversion mod* .
*Avoid Sonic Adventure DX unless it is the original version for PC 2004 with mods or the original for the Sega Dreamcast* .
DX has many presentation flaws and bugs that ruin Sonic Adventure, it's like a really bad Special Edition of Star Wars.
add a NO BIG THE CAT mod
Star masterc YES!
The fixes that the conversion mod does to bring the game to its ultimate form honestly put it in the 9-9.5/10 range for me. Even with the jank that's inherent to the game, Sonic Adventure at least to me seems to hold up a LOT more than most games from its time. And, yeah, this does mean I'm one of those sacrilegious saps who considers SA1 to be better than Mario 64.
@@Nitroxity In a parallel universe, Sonic 06 gets delayed, turns out to be a good game and the franchise surpasses Mario by far...
I played the Gamecube version and I don't remember any glitches...
We all know Alex is Big the Cat right? Super chill AF dude who wears sandels
(Also yes, Big the Cat is more intelligent then he seems, he did fly Tail's plane after all)
He sounds slow but he is average in IQ imo. Besides, it doesnt take a genius to actually pilot a plane.
@@valentinayalalopez1682 Man, I had a bad time learning how to drive a car.
Gotta give credit to Big for flying a plane
I was going to say " But he crashed the plane anyways", but then I remembered there's no landing gear in X-wing mode. Big the Cat really is intelligent to some extent.
I don't know, does a guy who gets into fights and belittles viewers in the comments section really count as "super chill AF"?
The real question. How did big the cat fit into tails plane?
Sonic adventure dx will forever be the best sonic game. It's amazing in almost every aspect.
It's called Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure DX is the mediocre port
@@BurritoGaming not really. Sonic adventure was the og game which was still amazing. Sonic adventure dx was the exact same game. So they're both amazing
@@BurritoGaming as a guy who played dx as the main way till i get steam latter dx may be a"bad" port but it still playable
Still my favorite 3D sonic game.
Why's everyone roasting Tails' voice all the time? "creepily childish voice" WHAT DO YOU MEAN, HE'S VOICED BY AN ACTUAL CHILD. Tails Voice acting isnt very good but neither is everyone else's. His voice itself is fine. -
Here i COME, Sonic
It's creepy and weird because he's the only character who sounds like a child and he isn't a child and isn't supposed to be a child. All the characters are supposed to be adults or teens, so they should all sound like adults or teens. Tails shouldn't sound like a 5 year old with a mouthful of Cheerios. If all or most of the cast was voiced by children you could get away with it by saying "well everybody else sounds like that" but since he's the only actual child voice in the game, it creates dissonance.
@@p.v.7269 Tails is 8 years old, dude.
@@p.v.7269 Tails, Charmy, Cream and Amy are all kids, Amy being the oldest at 12.
Why would they cast a child to play Tails if he wasn't a kid?
@Lord Baphomet Hey Baph, long time no see~ Anywho, I'm curious to know exactly where that's stated, and is that Sonic game canon or Sonic comics canon?
Great episode, man! It's refreshing to see someone not just completely shit on this game haha Really looking forward to Indieland this weekend!
People that shit on this game have actual sanity.
Detective Joshua I wouldn’t say it’s a good game, it’s just refreshing to not have another “Sonic Adventure is the worst” video haha
It is a good game.
Sadly, they judge it by the Director's cut version which it has glitches, graphical problem and others that actively ruin the original Dreamcast release...
Also, rule of gold: voice acting from the 90's will always be bad.
Star masterc oh man, that’s a shame. I remember really liking these games when I was younger, especially Adventure 2 Battle. I haven’t played it in a long time because I’m afraid to tarnish my good memories lol
Thank you for completing a game of my childhood ❤️ love your stuff!
Aw c'mon man, Deem Bristow was a GREAT Eggman. The mincemeat line still gives me shivers.
I haven't yet heard an Eggman that I didn't at least like. Robotnik on the other hand... well we all love a good PINGAS joke
Dean Bristow was peak Eggman. Between this and SA2 he had all he best lines and moments.
this music genre variety in this game makes it magical. I also love how open and multi-pathed the stages are.
this game is the pulp fiction of sonic games.
think about it.
If I remember, Sonic Team didn't have anything to do with Sonic X-Treme. It was an American production, I think? I remember one of the big setbacks was that the game was being developed in the NiGHTS engine and then Yuji Naka took issue with it being used. I seem to recall some severe development hell coming into play before it was cancelled.
- Lewis
It's why I'm glad this game has a PC release since mods are a thing, and you can play as Super Sonic in other levels.
Yes! I was waiting on the Sonic Adventure New Game Plus! Thank you!!
I'm looking forward to seeing Sonic Adventure 2 & Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on New Game +
I love that Jirard actually gives sonic games a chance instead of just hating on it and looking for glitches to exploit that "proves" their point, like seriously I've never had such glitches appear on the first level that others have, but I did play it on the gamecube
Trashing on 3D Sonic is indeed old. We need more positivity with 3D Sonic.
Won't happen with all the delusional classic fans
This is a fun one to complete. Yes, even Big's missions are fun.
thanks for this dude, people these days (especially big youtubers) seem to love to hate on sonic and always poke fun at all the 3d games so i am happy you have your own mind for this play through, great job! :D
The dreamcast version is the best version imo
Modded Steam version is even better.
@@ChiefMedicPururu and the completionist should try it RIGHT AWAY.

Also in the Game Cube version you unlock sonic game gear games as you get more emblems
Underrated completion bonus for sure. Games within games are always fun.

BEST SONIC GAME IN EXISTENCE!!! 😊🎮🙌🏽
Yea, but DX made the game graphics look like trash
@@BurritoGaming Sadly, yes...
Top 10 favorite games, so glad to see this
Did you know about Better Sonic Adventure DX? It's a mod for the PC version that makes the graphics better and ads playable super sonic
Actually, it's an outdated modpack featuring bonuses from existing mods that's been basically superseded by SADX Mod Installer which installs the same mods but gives you more config options and is always up-to-date.
You can also use the 2004 version with the Dreamcast Conversion mod and others...
Does it work for Steam version too?
@@l1z4rdbr34th90 yes
Why does every reviewer use the xbox 360 spinoff of a remake of a remake of a remake instead of the original game?
When I was a kid I used to play this all the time on the dreamcast! It makes me sad to revisit and see all the flaws I could never see before, but it also makes me feel nostalgic and happy to relive simpler times when I thought this games graphics were as good as we could ever get :p
I glad you actually like this game and don't act like it's just a joke as everyone else does, this game does have some actual really good gameplay.
What the heck I was literally just completing Amy's campaign in SADX as this video came out!
Fuck her story stressed out when I was younger. That robot gave me nightmares.
This game has an amazing soundtrack
This game was my childhood. First game I ever owned and spent many hours on it. I still replay every year. Best nostalgia game ever.
Love these New Game Plus joints. Hella excited to see you revisit Tooie!
I'm happy that FINALLY, someone gives Sonic Adventure a good break. Seriously, I'm sick and tired of so many people acting like "Oh Sonic has ALWAYS been bad in 3D when literally the first run was great. The Music, the gameplay, hell I'd argue that even though the acting is bad in many regards, the voices themselves are great fits. Your favorite is Ryan Drummond, and he is great. But I'll see your Ryan with my Dean Bristo. The guy is GREAT as Eggman, and it's a shame he passed when he did. Honestly, he's the other voice I think of aside from Mike Pollock when it comes to Eggman. A perfect mix of Sinister, mad, and even a little goofy.
ALL SYSTEMS, FULL POWER!
This & Generations are the only 3D Sonic games that I fully enjoyed.
Literally the first 3D run was sonic cd and it sucked. SA was a masterpiece tho
@@sivartgaming2174 what
yeah the lipsync actually being animated to the Japanese audio doesn't really help with the overly animated mouths
but flaws & all I still think this game aged kinda well hopefully Iizuka actually gets to make the SA1 remake he said he (& pretty much every actual fan) would love to see made ...a remake that if it happens then it moves the actual fishing to a mini-game in the Chao Garden & just makes Big gameplay about flipping every table, car & robot that gets between him & Froggy
I've been waiting for this for so long...
Ah yes. The first game I discovered you from. Glad to see you play this game again after so long.
I can fully recognize how flawed and broken this game is, BUT I can honestly say it is still so much fun to play and mess around with Sonic's movement.
If we are talking about glitches, those are solved with the original dreamcast version and PC with BetterSADX or Dreamcast Conversion mods or SADX Mod Manager.
About the now dated 90's style of the presentation for the story and Big the Cat, there is no way to fix those.
Star masterc
I don’t think they should be fixed since they add to the game’s charm. Also it makes sense since this game was made in the 90s.
Agreed. The Spin Dash is so broken in Sonic Adventure (and Adventure 2 to a lesser extent) and it's so much fun just dicking around with it. You can use it to get the Crystal Ring early (thank god) and even 11 of the 12 Adventure Field Emblems with Sonic alone... though you will die getting the one outside of Red Mountain.
Cmon play the dreamcast version (the best version) it has less bugs and better textures and models.
@@thenippletwister3457 I don't know what this is implying
That music was really good when indie land was playing 10/10 music for a moment
Your feelings on how you don't remember the glitches is how I remember Sonic '06 when it came out. I remembered loving the game and had a great time playing it with friends. When I was in high school, I decided to play it again and saw all the problems, and the negative comments made sense. I'll hold on to the good memories of the game.
Glad to see this game still holds up for you.
Glad to know the 360 version is glitchy. I was starting to hate on it too. I loved my original Dreamcast version, was never as glitchy. I never played the Gamecube version, but glad to hear it was better than the 360 version.
I tell people if the can handle the subtitles, put the voices in Japanese. It seems to match up with their mouths better, and it just sounds better.
Even though Big's levels are my least favorite too, I enjoyed them because they were a breather from all the stresses of the other characters. I always played his story second to last as that breather. Played Gamma's story last because it was my favorite.
Loved the music too. One of my favorite soundtracks too. Hard to pick a favorite track indeed, but I was always partial to At Dawn for Speed Highway (the end of Sonic's part of that level or Knuckles level). Always was a nice relaxing jam.
Great review as always.
Yeah for some reason every new ports of Sonic Adventure 1&2 get worse. Sucks too because the original versions, and even the GameCube versions in their own way, do actually hold up way better.
*Didn't You Know?* Sonic Adventure DX is the sequel to Sonic Adventure 2, the beloved first entry in the 3D Sonic series. This game was notably less popular due to the lack of Shadow the Hedgehog after his death in the first game. However, fan outcry eventually led to them retconning the ending and bringing Shadow back as a playable character in the reboot of the Sonic franchise, Sonic Heroes.
Wut
Funny I just started playing this again (PS2) from the beginning and his video comes out. One of my fave sonic games and holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for the vid 🥰🥰
''The introduction of the homing attack.'' kind of true it's where most people associate the birth of the homing attack because of the game's popular status, but sonic 3D blast did introduce a similar ability with the yellow shield powerup. (So maybe)
Gold shield was more limited in its homing capabilities and was more like a drop. The homing attack is kinda like if you mixed that homing with the fire shield's dash move, but the most significant aspect of the homing attack is that it is a standard move, not a powerup. Also way more usable.
Thank you for this video! I loved this game as well! It sucks so many people blindly sh** on it on today.
That intro didn't age so well
I love this game and Sonic Adventure 2 so much. They are my absolute favorite Sonic games and even though every sonic game has excellent music, Crush 40's prog rock stylings are a match made in heaven for Sonic. Jun Senoue's Petrucci-esque guitar licks are amazing, and they never should've stopped making Sonic's music.
So awesome that you're working with Nintendo for indieland! Jirard, and all the rest of the team, you guys rule.
Oh hey, it's the video on one of my favorite Beard Bros playthroughs. Awesome!
I hope the rumor about the sonic adventure remake is true.
Adventure being a good game already means a remake could avoid being disappointing like so many 3d Sonic games. For that reason I'd rather Adventure and 2 get remade than Sega making a third one.
I don't. We didn't have a fully original 3D Sonic game since Sonic Colors. Nearly a decade of unoriginality. I want new stuff! Remake could be kept for 40th anniversary, but now I am starved for new adventures.
Well, at least there is Spark the Electric Jester 2.
Me too, a remake of either adventure game with improved controls, visuals, and camera would be amazing. The second adventure port for Steam is so TERRIBLE! Really killed me so I took to playing the Gamecube version instead.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 all we need is adventure 2 style gameplay with new moves playable tails and knuckles and chao gardens to justify collecting enemy drops rings and emblems. Just bring back the chao garden dammit!!!

Thank you Jirard! Great video, great game. Sonic Adventure has my favorite story in a Sonic game and opened my heart for a 3d Sonic games. Although I played a PC version and it was a bit frustrating sometimes, I loved every single minute of it. Even Bid the Cat.
New Game Plus is always a treat. Not only are they purely entertaining but it's always great to see how much Jirard has improved as a creator and reviewer.
Sonic Generations is the best 3D Sonic game....
To me. Sonic Adventure 1+2 is a close second tho.
Generations was really good. Felt more 2.5 d almost. Lots of 2d sections even a few in the 3d levels.
Rob M
Modern sonic was 3D (with 2d)
Classic sonic was 2.5d
Personally, i like the adventure games more because they are similar to the genesis games. Generations is also a good game but i never liked the boost formula.
Yeah even in 3D sections boost sonic plays like a 2D game. You shift lanes in 2D fashion, mostly move forward, and the 3D sections are less common like drifting. Then actual 2D sections furthers the problem. I'd like to see an improved version of the adventure or heroes (no not shadow the hedgehog) in the future as boost isn't that fun. Just lots of quick reactions gameplay
@@SuperSSSSooonniicccc Windy Valley Autodemo from Sonic Adventure it's like a stage straight from Sonic 3&K or something like that, meanwhile, a stage from Sonic Forces is basically a straight line and a boost to win mess. SONIC AND MARIO GAMES COMPLETION CONFIRMED, GUYS
3:19 I think you mean “Open up your heart up” my dude.
Great video as always, Jirard! I haven’t played this game in years! Might as well give it another shot soon.
...The track’s name is “Open Your Heart” no Up involved.
I've been dying for a video like this.
Heck on you for the Tails voice actor hate. He was cute! Otherwise loved it.
@Jesse Quarnstrom In the original Sonic Adventure it was a boy
I just want a generations 2 with a chao garden.
Nice! I'm definitely watching all indieland this year. I LOVED last year.
I’ve been waiting for this video for ever I love this game
I just want Pikmin 2. Please Jirard...
It would be amazing if he celebrated the game's 15th anniversary. The Japanese release was in April but the North American release is August 30th. I'm so excited to replay my favorite game of all time that day myself!
I always felt like DX was a downgrade that only just forced the SA2 style onto the game that was better with the cuter models. The missions didn't add anything for me. It's nice that the modding community has restored a lot of the original charm, but I'll keep playing the original on both my Dreamcast and on the Redream emulator.
Anyways, I'm very glad there's at least one mainstream CZcamsr who actually loves Sonic.
Love your content xD Hope you are having fun making these videos. Don't be pressured into making videos
One of my favorite childhood games, awesome !😁
I swear I'm literally the only one who's fine with Big's gameplay...
If his levels were optional, no one would have a problem with him, because his gameplay was actually fine.
I liked them
i think he should have been a gag character who just appeared multiple times throughout all the other stories chasing froggy, rather than a playable character with his own path
I enjoyed Bigs missions as well lol.

Thanks you for supporting the open hand foundation Jirard (if I may), it really means a lot ,I’m just a fan of the channel and I can’t say that I have been effected by dementia however my mom and my grandma both have. So it really means a lot that you’re doing this. I hope I can make it to the stream.❤️
I remembering that wonderful cover song you made on that video many years ago and the mightiest of all chaos of all time in sonic adventure 2 :D Good Job Jirard :D
AH YEAH , THIS IS STILL HAPPENING!!!
Ok, who is with me for a remake for this game? Or better, a Adventure collection with Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes with the name "The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog", with grafics similar to the beauty of Sonic Unleashed, and refined gameplay and better camera
If they put the effort to put in Heroes, they should put the effort in to add Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), with the current voice cast and an option for the originals.
Why I say that for Shadow and ‘06, is because they basically share the same gameplay styles, and do deserve to be recognized as well.
@@Josh-The_Spooky_Bastard- I would call them for "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog: The Dark Age" LMAO, but it could work with enough effort and help from fans who loves this game, search for how many fans are trying to remake these games, even if people say these games are bad, we love them, that's one of the things I love about the Sonic fanbase, they really do see the potential in these games
The Ice Cap jump for the rings mission is the hardest thing I ever had to do in the game. congrats on doing that man.
This channel has completely evolved. Nice.
actually the best way to play sonic adventure is the pc version full in mods, in 4k, 60fps, sound improve, uses the characters from the dreamcast version or the modern version; fixes all the litle problems with many things and many more. That's all
Jirard has said in the past he doesnt like completing games that have mods, even if they help bugs and glitches, it opens the door to people say he used other mods to help him when that might not even be the case, and in case you havent noticed he 99% sticks to console gaming because its what he grew up with, the only pc games ive seen him complete is Half Life and Portal.
I still prefer playing it on my Dreamcast
You should do Sonic Adventure 2. Completing that is crazy hard but still it's my favorite Sonic game ever despite the music being so loud you can hardly hear the characters talking lol
He did years ago, so it’ll be another New Game Plus.
Sonic Adventure was the last Sonic game I truly enjoyed. I got every emblem, and explored the game with the GameShark. The Dreamcast was a favorite console of mine.
damn...not even Rush, advance, generations, colors(both versions), or mania?
Jyniguunx yz So? there still good games...plus only half of generations is fully 2d.
And colors was the ONLY game listed here to try to appeal to Nintendo fans
Enjoyed the episode!
(This isnt a rant against Jirard, his review is fine. It's just other people.)
Y'know.
I really hate when people apply modern gaming perspectives to a 2 decade old game.
Like dude, at the time it was incredible. Obviously it's not gonna hold up to modern games, which had more tools and less limitations. Duh.
Aside from Big the Cat, SA1 is pretty good. Sure it looks...wacky...these days, but if you place yourself in the late 90's it becomes awesome.
Worse thing is, they're starting to do the same thing to SA2 (Arguably the best game in existence, im not crazy, you are)
You ever think we've become too critical as a collective? I miss that childhood wonder...
People judge the Adventure series as if it was released in this day-and-age, but it wasn’t. SA1 was the first 3D game Sonic had and people tend to highlight the flaws rather than what’s good about it.
@Just Squid SA2 has better treasure hunting stages than SA1 because you actually have to think to get each emerald and the hint system is great. If a stage like Mad Space becomes tedious, is because they nerfed the radar.
Gamma's gameplay is better than the mechs, the level design for speed based stages still have branching paths but you don't have a setting like Sky Deck, Red Mountain.
Linearity started with the boost formula.

I disagree. The Adventure series translated the 2D Sonic formula into 3D too fluidly to not be considered a good transition. The foundation of SA1 and SA2’s design is pretty much on par with the design foundation of the classic Sonic games; fast-paced gameplay/platforming with rewarding exploration elements. And the implementation of that core design doesn’t necessarily means you have to go from point A to point B all of the time, and for all of their flaws, this was implemented well in the shooting and treasure hunting stages(which were obviously focused more on exploration). The reason they aren’t as well regarded as the Sonic stages wasn’t because they were bad, which they aren’t, it was because they were different and simply weren’t as fun due to the more restrictive, unique play styles they have. Also, later 3D Sonic games, while much more streamlined, took notes from the Adventure series with the way they incorporated an exploration element to a game mainly based on speed and platforming. Disagree all you want, the Adventure series was the closest we got to 3D Classic Sonic games, and are still solid games for their time.
Also, Pumpkin Hill, Aquatic Mine, Wild Canyon, Mission Street, Weapon Bed, Sand Ocean, Prison Lane, Security Hall, Dry Lagoon, and Death Chamber.
@Just Squid I'm pretty sure that all of that RNG can be reduced with SA1's radar.
The hub world alone is the reason of why i like more SA1 than 2.
As for the level design, i still don't think is linear because you are not doing boost to win and taking only one path.
A timeless game is a game that stands up to the test of time. Nostalgia is not a defense against age. I love SA, but you have to be able to put yourself out of the equation. "At the time it was revolutionary" is not a valid defense. There are good and bad games of every generation, and you can still like something that is not considered by the public as good, but you have to look at the game as a game. Yes graphics can get old and ugly, but bugs and mechanics at any era have always had the opportunity to be good, but it's on the devs to make them something special. TL:DR It is 100% fair to judge a game by modern standards. A good game is a good game no matter how new or old it is, and nostalgia is not a defense.
Hell yeah, thank you Jirard. This is the best Sonic game, don't @ me nerds
@J Ciner
...You’re right, I’m just messing with ya.
SA2 is better imo, but I love SA1 as well
I was waitin on this
After all these years of watching stuff about Sonic and Mario on CZcams, I never knew about those development cycle periods! That is really something.

Getting this game on Christmas Day in 2000 when I was 10 year old with power stone and virtua fighter along with my Dreamcast was one of my fondest gaming memories ! Tbf I played it on steam recently and it's aged like milk lol but I still love it for nostalgia reasons .
I actually just started playing this game for the first time the other day and I had a lot of fun with it.
