My grandparents bought one brand new in 1984 and I had the honour of driving it home from the dealer. It was a fantastic car! I was 17 at the time, and as a car fanatic I was thrilled to drive a car this nice. As mentioned in the video, it had a button to turn on a rear amp which performed very well. This platform with the 318 was the choice of countless police, cabs and for good reason. Much like the Ford panther platform years later, this was reliable and durable.

Reliable might not be the term to use. But Durable sure is. These made fine cop cars, with a 360, similar to the one that came in The Little Red Express Truck. That is exactly what a good friend of mine did in a way, only took it a few steps further. He found an Imperial like this, loaded but with only a tired 318, some old lady had abused with not enough mechanical maintenance like oil changes and such. To a point at 58,000 miles the car looked like a million in all triple white. But dirty engine with horrendous blow by. Not getting out of its own way. Well my friend is her grandson who helped her keep it clean for sure, but was never able to change the oil. So she gave it to him. Then me and another good friend lent our expertise in swapping out the tires 318 and Torque Flite, for a MOPAR built 360, with Holley Pro-Injection, headers and built 727 automatic, running back to a 3:55 posi. That turned that beauty into a real sleeper! With close to 400 hp.

@@craigrusso9291 I'm not into hot rods, but the engines in these 5th Avenues were pathetic. Between 110 to 135 horse power, depending on the year, from a 5.2 liter V8, with a trouble prone "lean burn" carburetor. Putting an earlier, pre-malaise era engine into one would certainly be doing it a favor. Unless you get caught. Then you could get in some trouble. Some states continue to inspect cars this age, some do not.
You want to see a destroyed 5th Ave., there is a dirt track near me that used one of these to condition the track.

That's what they said about the Charger and Challenger Hellcats!
All you would need is an 8 3/4 rear and tie the sub frames. It's easy to tighten up the suspension in these.

The reason these cars were slow was due to the powertrain at most produced 140hp, 240ft lbs of torque, roughly a axle ratio 2.28 with a three speed. A more powerful powertrain, with a wider gear spread would do wonders.

My dad owned a 1988 5th ave, he passed away years ago and the car sat in the garage cause my mom doesn’t drive. She had asked me to see if i could get it running and i could buy it for a few bucks. So i tried a batter and gas and it would just crank, so i changed the fuel pump and filter and it fired right up!
I am getting it inspected soon and new tires. It needs a good buffing and a new headliner but not much else. The car again is a 1988 Chrysler Fifth Ave. with 21509 miles.
Any idea of its value now?
I wish i could show a few pictures
