From The Seekers farewell concert july 7 1968 in London. This lovely song for children was composed by an American singer/songwriter called Malvina Reynolds(1900-1978) in 1957.

@@katiejane1337 Hi , My late Mom sung this to me and my brother. Fab time to grow up and luvly memories of my parents too. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands 🤝
My mother used to sing this to me as a baby. Some of my earliest memories are hearing her singing this to me. It will always be special to me purely for that reason.
This song just popped into my head as I walked into the kitchen. Thought i would find it on CZcams. Looks like many people have the same fond memories. My mother would sing this to me too.
RIP Judith , I listen to seekers songs over and over, you have the most beautiful voice and you were fantasy material for male fans all over the world. Fortunately your beautiful voice and face will live forever on CZcams, CDs, and in higher quality sound on records and cassettes, thank you for the music.
No song from my lovely childhood in the 60 bring memories flooding back like this one and Gary Pucketts Young Girl......I so wish i could turn the clock back and make my country like it was
My beautiful daughter loved this song when she was a small girl. She would ask me to play it and then would stand on my feet and we would dance. Fast forward to her wedding a few years ago. She danced the first dance with her new husband, of course, and then the DJ put on this song. She looked at me and i knew. I came up and we danced to Morningtown ride one more time. One of the sweetest memories of my life.
I sung this to my first born to get him to sleep. I also sung this to my daughter the night before we left hospital without her and it played at her funeral. It's only recently I've been able to sing this to my youngest and it soothes him instantly. Such a beautiful piece.
Looks like there is 193 people (at time of writing) that have no appreciation of good wholesome music which, to a lot of people has a lot of emotional meaning...
i’m only 15 but my mum has always sung this too me since i was a little baby and now i sing it to my new born half brother. we replace the driver, fireman, and sandman with our names ♥️♥️♥️ truely a core memory this song
It's a rare voice indeed that evokes the purity of innocence as well as the wisdom of the ages. God gave Judith such an incredibly unique gift, and to this day, she still uses this gift to uplift others.
There is something magical about the voice and presence of Judith Durham. Tremendous harmony, very upbeat positive musical experience. No doubt a legendary band that has not gotten the proper recognition for their greatness.
My dad sang this to get me to sleep when I was young. He was 70 today 😁 big party 🎊 was organised but coronavirus put a stop to that but happy he’s still save ✌️we can all get through this ✌️✌️✌️
A marvellous song sung by a stunning beauty and backed by a fabulous trio. Don't we all miss the best era for music? Please give me back to me my teenage years of the 60's.
I can't believe how much I love this song and sing it all the time FIFTY YEARS LATER. I first heard it live at the Seekers concert in London in 1966 while I was doing my Masters degree at Imperial College London Univ. This represented such a happy and uncomplicated time to me epitomized by their music - love all their songs
It's not commercial enough anymore thats why it's not played. But it gets played in peoples houses and that's even better.Myself i feel lucky to have lived in times when music like this was made.

I watched them in concert in 2005, Auckland, New Zealand -- even after so long, they still have it, and her voice is as good as ever. Brought back so many memories...
Any time I hear this song , all I get is flash backs to climbing big ..big trees to the very top as a young fella and then just sitting there and swaying in the breeze.....can still visualize it as if it was only yesterday.......still have a hankering to do again even 50 odd years down the road .
45 years ago I fell in love for the very 1st. time and this song was playing on the juke box, never forgot the one I let go and always regretted my stupidity. This is the song I want to be playing when they lay me to rest.
No song ever recorded by anyone, let alone The Seekers, makes me feel more nostalgic than “Morningtown Ride”. It brings memories flooding back from youth, my mum, & god knows what else all sadly gone. Those three lads in The Seekers are superb musicians in their own right, of course, but just about everybody agrees that Judith Durham has the greatest, most stunningly beautiful voice in the history of recorded sound. If anyone doesn’t think so they must be a tone-deaf idiot!.
1968 was the year I started school , our railway line closed down , we watched the traines go buy from our farm house , now the railway line a bike trail , my mother would play this song, thanks.
I remember this song very well as a youngster too. Good times that the younger generation today I will never have. This a great song from a great band from a great and now lost generation. It's just a great :)

Hi my super snipe brother. Thanks for your lovely comment. And every car should have fold down picnic tables in the back. Shinny wooden ones. We thought we were the bees knees.
I sung this song in my pyjamas with all my classmates from school up on a stage in the annual school concert - which was at a local hall not the school as I recall. It was UFTG Primary School in Victoria, Australia in the early 1970s sometime. I remember thinking it was very exciting to be performing in pyjamas (because it was unusual obviously - I was about six I think)!!! I loved this song.
A few years ago in my musical theatre group we did music from music hall through to the 80s. I had the pleasure with 3 of the men, Ed, Roger and Mike of being The Seekers, I had long hair then, and was a lot thinner. We sang snippets of the songs, but this one in full. I've just been told the lovely Mike has passed and this bought back great memories
It was a real joy to hear the Seekers. They made so many wonderful records! Their lead singer, Judith Durham had the voice of an angel. She could sing anything to pop, jazz, blues and country & western. I love their music because it’s timeless!
Abberationify : So well spoken. I always thought Judith Durham was beautiful. It was her talent, charm, grace, smile, personality, femininity, that made her beautiful to me !! Beautiful song, I can never listen to it without tears of both joy and sadness; the Seekers were my dad's favourite group and my sisters and I always cry when we hear this, at it reminds us of him and that he's gone. We were blessed to have the mum and dad that we had, we will love them always. Thanks for posting. x
wow this is so beautiful. i was thinking of my father and how he used to sing this to me to sleep, and it's so sweet reading all the comments and thinking about how many others found this song such a comfort. i hope to sing it to my own children one day :)
Loved this happy song. Played it tonight because I feel sad.....and this makes me happy. The harmonies are just so great and Judith Durham's voice is so clear.

I have always really liked this song from the first time I heard it back in the mid 1960's. Of course like many others I absolutely love Judith's voice. Its so clear, strong and she really carries the song. Its just to bad we are all getting old.
Cindy Alder I remember this song when I was a little child. What memories. No, they don't make songs like this anymore. I hang my head and wish we could return to days of innocence.
CloserExamination the song i heard from them was "the carnival is over" and that was what got me to like them and still do today, i had a tape of theirs that i played al the time in the car radio, until it snapped...so i guess i wore it out!!
I saw them perform last night in Adelaide for the 50th Anniversary Tour. Absolutely incredible! How is it possible for Judith at 70 to have a voice as good now as in the 1960's ? Yes, none better, even now.

Amazing how well the voices of the Seekers guys supported Judith’s voice. I love that she uses tremolo rather than vibrato. It’s so much purer. Judith’s amazing vocals plus the best ever backup from the guys made this group such a winner.
