  • From their farewell concert at the BBC in London July 7 1968."The carnival is over"Not until 1993 did they get together again with Judith as a lead singer.
The lyrics for "The Carnival is over" was written by Tom Springfield and the melody is based on a old Russian folk song.
Judith had to put up a real fight to get
this song recorded as the boys rather would
    record another song called "Hummingbird"
instead. But she got her will and it was
released first time on a single record 28 Oct 1965.At it's peak this single record was selling 90,000 copies a day in the UK.

I was born in 67 but was so blessed to have seen the Seekers live in 1993 on the lawns by the sea on a warm evening in Darwin. Ever since I have been a devotee and know all the words to all the songs on the CD they released around that time.

As a young boy in 1968 , I was confused & mystified at what an incredible effect Judith Durham had on me. All these years later, no longer a young boy , I can say she was my first love...... Complete adoration. Still holds to this day.

Judith, I can never get enough of you and the boys. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!! That's how I would rate the Seekers. What a wonderful time to grow up in the 60's with such great singers like you around to brighten our lives. My brother lives in Melbourne and each time I visited him, I would think of the wonderful gift of your melodious voice. It was a very sad day indeed when i heard that the group broke up. Wish it never happened because The Seekers left a vacuum in our hearts.

What a voice. This song reminds me of 1965 when the Royal Fleet Auxiliary tanker Tidereach escorted the old H.M.S. Ark Royal to Fremantle W.A. for a courtesy visit to Perth where we had an excellent visit that included me celebrating my 21st birthday. One of our radio officers contacted the local radio station, "6PR, the station of the good guys" and asked for this to be played on air to thank the people of Perth and Fremantle for the wonderful time that they had given to us. Thanks again.

I think this video will be played forever in the net. It serves as the testimony of the extraordinary beauty and talent of a singer of such a power, such quality in her voice that the listener gets immediately riveted, addicted. The boys harmonies and the orchestra add powerfully to these feelings.

My 1st date with my late husband was at the local village carnival.. this song, which my gran had in her small collection, became a song I connected. I was living in the US, and had to return to school. On my return to Wales in 1972, I married him some years later, only to lose him in 1976. Life has moved on for me in many ways, but this song always reminds me how much I loved him and always will. It does not prevent other loving relationships forming and the fact life goes on for the world

One of the ten best singers on Youttube, ie the world. The words, nearly perfect. You get to the stage, when you realise that your best years, are behind you. Not being pesimistic, but realsitic. It makes you want to spend the ones left more wisely. Or pehaps more frivolously. Stop saving, start spending. Stop working, start enjoying. Christmas, always makes me thoughtful.

Wow what a voice i was not born during this period
My mother has alot of their records
Just blew me way how beautiful Judith was and a awesome voice and no miming
I grew up with plastic acts like spice girls and cheryl who think they can sing
    Seekers blow them away

    Judith = voice of angel.
The Seekers = EPIC BAND. Two guitars, double bass and vocals? UNBELIEVABLE sound.

Judith Durham was one of the purist vocalists of her age. Going back now to revisit the Seekers songs, has been as good as it was over 40 years ago. Thank you for loading. Magic

Judith, Nana Moscouri and Joan Baez. Truly outstanding voices, each in their own particular niches.
