Believe it or not I have gone through 10 DUB BB’s since having the bike from new.! they Dont last at all as I tide up in the peak district a lot sand/dirt and as you the no the weather can be horrendous. Just wondering if Hope BB’s or Chris King are better? Perhaps a silly question but need to ask as Im replacing them all the time. I get alot of play after a month too.

    I’ve found on deore and slx cranks, that once you have removed preload cap and undone pinch bolts, there is a safety tab you need to flick up before you should remove the crank

    • @jordanlajeunesse4464
      @jordanlajeunesse4464 Pƙed 3 lety +1

      i also noticed doddy didnt undo this while taking the cranks off. Makes it much easier because that tab actually puts a pin in a hole in the spindle locking it on.

The mt800 is smaller but comes with a piece of plastic which you insert into the tool to remove the bottom bracket. Changing a BB for the first time and need a little advice/have stupid question:
    Bike is a 2018 Whyte 905 WITH SRAM GXP BB as standard.
    I've just ordered a Wheels MFG BB as a replacement, but it's arrived with a million spacers and some wavy washers (which weren't on the original BB.)
    My first thoughts were to install the new BB without Spacers, as the old BB didn't have any fitted BUT the actual cups of the new BB (the external part, not including the threaded section) are thinner than the original BB, so maybe I need spacers to maintain the proper Chainline? Or do I just throw it a the bike and be done with it? đŸ€”đŸ™„đŸ€ŠđŸŒâ€â™‚ïž
    Apologies for stupid questions, first time I've done this.
    Cheers.

    With these BBs if you do not use loads of grease when you get to the threadlock you can easily crossthread it. The other option is to screw in and back out to remove the excess thread lock or clean it off entirely and apply some fresh stuff that's easier to screw in.

    • @BGraves
      @BGraves Pƙed 3 lety

      The threadlock they use also serves to keep water out of the threads and the internals of the bottom bracket

    Little tech question for doddy!
    I’ve got a sram gxp 83mm English threaded bottom bracket which are currently pretty unavailable in the uk at a affordable price.
    The skinnier 70-60 (ish) width model is still readily available though.
    my question is is what’s the difference? The bb comes in 3 parts with each cup and then a plastic spacer tube in the middle. Could I buy the skinnier bb and swap out the plastic spacer to achieve the 83mm from the 60-70 version?
    Cheers for anyone that can Help, louie

    I hate the Park Tool Preload Tool, clearly has a design flaw, one side has a hook (use for pulling up the plastic clip) but when you unscrew the preload nut if you’re not careful the hook on the tool can put a deep scrape in the crank arm (fortunately mine had sticker protection). The hook needed to be machined on the back side of the tool!
    I would be interested if anyone else has this tool and experienced similar problem?
