My dad bought a TJ brand new in 2003 and a friend of his taught him the Jeep wave. It may be over a decade old but it still runs well and I'd love to keep it running in memory of my dad, who passed away in 2012
That's a nice story, thanks for sharing. I bought a new 04" TJ Rubicon which is still in mint condition. I chopped it up, lifted it and made it bulletproof, and like yourself, my kids will take ownership and hopefully keep it for a long long time.
Great! and same here. Bought my 97 Sahara w/8,000 miles now 213,000 a no engine issues ever (knock on wood). Transmission rebuilt 2x, no other issues. I have a 9 and 7 year old now and they love it.
Sounds like my old Dodge. It's weather-beaten and the dash is cracked, but Red is the most dependable no-frills vehicle you could ask for. Trucks and Jeeps from the nineties were made to survive.
The XJ is more of a 240sx equivalent because they are so cheap. But that drift/dirt tax is hurting them both. Xj not as badly because kids aren't drifting them into curbs in highschool parking lots.

I'd say that's a pretty damn good review. I found a pure one, with 54k on the odometer. only issue I've had was a burnt turn signal socket, a little frame rust, and a locked brake caliper. Greatest vehicle I've ever owned, and plan on getting a couple more in the future. Long live the TJ!

Stumbled on to your channel today and gotta say it's GREAT!! Loved this vid. Own a '98 TJ, bought new, SE with a/c as the only option. Can't seem to part with her. Has been a mudder, a daily driver, just all around fun Jeep. Have taught 3 grandkids how to drive a row your own and she has never complained. Probably will be buried in it. No matter what winds up in my drive, I always go back to my TJ for raw fun and rehashing great memories. Subbed!!
Had a Compass as a rental once. It was the most boring car I think I have ever driven. No complaints, no praises. Nothing about it was fun or stylish. It didn't perform very well. It just, sort of, silently existed; trying not to be noticed. Still a million times better then the Ford Escape.
I have recently, as in last week, picked up one of these, though its the 4 cyl version, it has been nothing but a breath of fresh air. It is also my first standard vehicle, and it wants to work for you. It's patient with you when it needs to be and will express its value when driven properly, and that gives you the feeling of utmost reward when it is. That being said it is an absolute unit, i couldn't imagine taking it past 75 mph. But that is truly a jeep thing. They are not intended to be involved in the "look how fast my car can go" pissing competition.
I didn't think I would ever get emotional from a review video, but this one did it. Brought back memories of my 79 fj40 and the new found freedom it brought me, and the friends I made trying to keep it on the road.
I got a 97 TJ on Craigslist a little over two months ago. It was in ridiculously good condition for being in the heart of the rust belt. Took the doors off for the first time yesterday and it feels unreal. Extremely happy with my buy.
“The Jeep TJ loves you so love it” remembering how many things broke in the year I have owned mine and the 6k I’ve put into it. But then remembering the fun I have had camping and going out with friends, doing hard trails that one friend gets stuck and you pull him out just for you to break something 15 feet further down the trail. Sometimes it’s good to ya and sometimes it throws a fit but it will let you have a good time if you have the money

I bought a TJ that was put down by Ontario salts and rusted well beyond what most would try to salvage. Been a long term project but once it's done I plan to keep it as original as possible for the rest of my life. I have another Jeep, a WJ. That poor little TJ will never see a salty road again
Wow! 3 RCR reviews in under a week! Thanks Mr. Regular for giving us this holy gift! But seriously, the re- re-uploads are sort of funny, I bet maybe not for you, but I find the description and the start of the video very humorous. Still a great video none the less Mr. Regular, keep up the amazing work!
I've been driving my TJ since 1999 and it is still going strong and even though it's had a bit of modifications over the years, the drivetrain is still completely original except for the slip yoke eliminator kit and the CV driveshaft. Which had to be upgraded from stock simply because of the lift kits. It's as fun now at 23 years of me driving it as it was when I was only 18 when I bought it.
I’ve watched this video multiple times over the years. My dad had a 1997 Sport manual as I was growing up. He lost it when he failed to make payments on the Silverado he bought a decade later. He passed away from cancer six years ago... I miss him and the fun times we had in that Jeep and Boy Scouts... I plan on buying a white TJ just like his, but it’s difficult to find one that’s still standard and unmolested.
My Dad, who passed away in January of 2022, owned a Manual Transmission 2001 Jeep Wrangler Spot with a Hard Top and it looked extatically like this Jeep that you have featured here.
Just got a 97 wrangler soft top from my dad for my daily. I’m a high schooler from Berks County PA and I love driving it. I don’t beat it up (or at least try not to) and I want to keep it running for as long as i can. Glad I found this video, thanks RCR.
as a former yj (95) owner and a current TJ(03) owner....thank you...THANK YOU for this video. I laughed..nodded my head...shook it in wonder...and at the end liked it and subed ;) Qapla!
That speech at the end... "Love HER back." Many RCR videos make me laugh, but this one is different. This one is deeper. This one might just be my favorite of them all.
Used to own an 86 and 01 Cherokee and finally wanted to own a TJ. This is the nicest narration that I’ve seen. Missed the old Jeep but not it’s reliability.
I had one for years. They are like bad carnival rides that toss you, bump you, sting you, and scare you. When you get out, all dirty, sweaty, and scared, you smile through rattled and broken teeth and say--"let's do that again".
I just bought Jeep TJ 1998 last year with over 200,000 kilometres on it. And honestly it runs so well that it feels strong and solid. To me it drives like an old Toyota Hilux. Went 4WD last weekend, went through water which was pretty high and I drove through without getting stuck. No problems at all. And yes it's noisy, it's rough and jumpy but after you drive it so many times you get used it. Overall it's a lot of fun and addictive to drive 👍
+djhero0071 every time he re-uploaded it there were different shots missing pixilation. And you know that right now he's going back over the review he's supposed to upload today to make sure it's perfect.
Just bought a mint TJ LWB because of Mr. Regular. Thank you for making reviews that are so uniquely funny and educating at the same time... like that teacher that turned lessons into quirky jokes during class.
I had a '97 TJ 4 cyl. There was no secure storage, it was noisy, it had a lot of parts needing replacement when I bought it (and I sold it needing pretty much a new engine) and truly lived up to Just Empty Every Pocket, while getting ~14 MPG and being goddamn terrifying on the freeway. I miss that damn thing.
Tom Sittler my 98 4.0l 5-speed gets 17mpg mixed with a misfire. Mine has a locking glovebox, locking center console (like all TJs) and the optional add-a-trunk (it’s a steel plate covered in fabric that goes over the back storage area and is locked in place by the tailgate). The only way you are getting to what’s underneath is by opening the tailgate. If it’s locked, then no access.
As the owner of a built Toyota FJ (overlanding, camping, rock crawling), I know everytime I see a modded TJ, I am the inferior one. Toyota reliability and comfort is amazing but there is nothing like a Jeep with it's solid axles and simplicity. One day I will own both, at the same time, and hope the world does not implode.
Ive owned 5 TJS since 1999. I’ve had my current 97 TJ for 7 years. 136K and runs like a dream. Kids grew up in our Wranglers. At this point it’s a symbol of our family. One thing I can’t get myself to do.... I won’t wave to 4 Doors. Never. Most of the people I’ve seen driving them bought the four door in the same vein as buying a SUV. They aren’t buying it because of the history or what a wrangler symbolizes. Just needed a SUV and then drive it stock until they trade it in for a suburban. Looks like a boat on skateboard wheels. You can totally spot a true Wrangler affectionate a mile away and they get my wave!
My dad had an 05 wrangler, i remember doing my learners permit on it. I will never forget driving around our large lake and how many waves I got. I remember this one guy who looked like he has had the ongoing shittiest day of his life. Like, leaned to the side head against the rollbar and yet even then he still fully stuck his hand out and did the wave. Thay was crazy to me lol
I’ve had a JK X, JK Unlimited Sahara and a JK Rubicon Call of Duty, all have been sold. Always felt like a poser. Now I drive a 99 TJ and I feel like a true jeeper!
I had an '08 JK X with that 3.8 mini van engine. Got rid of that pos. Now have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn 4.0 I6 with a Dana 44 w/ 3.73's. By far the best vehicle I've owned. This is the last of the true Jeeps! O|||||||O 🇺🇸Only in a 2 dr🇺🇸 '41 - '06
man, as an Undertale speedrunner who dailies a ‘99 TJ with 220k strong original miles... this is perhaps the greatest video of all time. they really do love you back as long as you love em. good ole Toriel she is ❤️
I have so many stories from my first TJ, driving from Michigan to Connecticut with a Buick skylark on a tow dolly, going 60 there was no brakes, you just had to down shift and engine brake 2 miles ahead to slow down.
Loved this video. Im 46 and bought my 97 TJ about 6months ago. Years ago ive owned a CJ and tgen a YJ . Was time for another toy Jeep. Your video was spot on. Its a jeep thing haha. My daily is a lifted F150 on 38s but my little TJ on 33s is so fun to drive. Save a TJ, buy one now
I have a 1991 Jeep Yj. 100% Stock except for the 31 inch tires. Everyone wants me to mod it but I won't. 91 was the last year they came with the traditional single roll bar. After that they installed the family package cage which just looks bulky IMO.
This is such a great video. I'm 46 and I finally got my first Jeep, it's a 2004 TJ SE with the little 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. I drove Jeeps with friends growing up. One of my best friends when i was a teenager had a great 1974 CJ 5 and we explored all over Lassen County and Eagle Lake in that thing. I keep asking myself what took me so long? Why did I wait so long to pull the trigger and get my own Jeep. I love this car. I have no intention to beat it up in any way. I live in Monterey now and it's my daily. It's perfect for around town or a trip to the beach. It great to explore the back country above Big Sur. It's brought me back some wonderful memories of my youth. I love your comment in the video about it being easier to daily a Miata. My oldest son just got his driver's license this year. He worked all summer an purchased himself a 1999 Miata. It's a fantastic little car too and he really enjoys it. My middle son has his eye on the Jeep. If he really enjoys it, I hope that he won't wait until he's 46 to buy his first Jeep. There's still some reasonable YJ's out there and I think they look great. I'd love to help him fix one up. Anyway, thanks again for making this video.
@@markharris6293 tell me about it! I shopped for quite a while. I finally decided to go with a 4 cylinder because they were more in my price range and I'm happy with what I bought. I do plan to regear at some point but I'm not planning on running anything more than 31" or 32" I've seen several really nice looking YJ's priced similar or less than I paid for my 4cyl TJ and the more I look at them the more they're growing on me.
I don't wave at stock JK Wrangler's. Having a Jeep used to mean foregoing power locks and windows for shit that is simple thats hard to break and easy to fix. Soccer moms are comfortable in new factory "Jeeps" powered by quite minivan V6 engines with keyless entry. She's got nothin in common with my last of the full metal body Jeeps.
Dude! I feel the exact same way about JK's! I love the straight six and 5 speed! Haha i thought i was the only one who felt that way, i see so many "fuckbois" with their jks nowadays
Madeline Monahan Oh yea i feel the same way! A true Jeep is something that is Amc/Mopar! And the 242 Amc straight six is fuckin mint! And then there is all the jk's who think they are top shit because their "Jeep" is expensive and new. Even though there is no Amc in it at all. I love my 5 speed manual with crank windows and mechanical 4x4
danSmithy You obviously don't drive a Jeep or you're just another one of them JK drivers who don't wave. You wouldn't understand. Jeeps were built to last, especially with the straight sixes, nowadays they aren't built like they used to be. I can power wash the complete interior of my TJ with no harm done. But these city slicker Jeeps have touch screen nav shit in them and they just aren't true to Jeep and all the history behind it. The minivan v6 is not Amc and therefore I don't like JKs
Your bit about maintaining older vehicles, especially iconic ones, really hit home for me. I see so many people in my age group buying reasonably nice Miatas and absolutely destroying them with cheap eBay mods and dangerous driving. And this extends across the spectrum to other cars, whether they're interesting or not. I've had mine for 7 years now and it legitimately looks better now than it did when I first started driving it at age 17. With how much happiness it's brought me, it would be disrespectful to run it into the ground.
My dad bought a TJ brand new in 2003 and a friend of his taught him the Jeep wave. It may be over a decade old but it still runs well and I'd love to keep it running in memory of my dad, who passed away in 2012

This has to be the most relatable review i've ever seen and honestly has made me love my Jeep even more!
As a brand new TJ owner absolutely in love with this silly truck, I love this video. Spot on!
*doing "something"* oo! Mr regular uploaded another video! *looks at title* wait this is the third time he uploaded this
Ugly hybrid. Tesla hates you
+A Toyota Prius Good partner
I still come back to this video now and then for a smile. So good.
My Dad, who passed away in January of 2022, owned a Manual Transmission 2001 Jeep Wrangler Spot with a Hard Top and it looked extatically like this Jeep that you have featured here.
Honestly I was tearing up at the end. Bravo! I'm not even a jeep guy.
Very nice video!!
I love my Jeep Wrangler.
I'm maintaining my 2000 TJ. And of course in this day and age, to find one at 10k in half decent shape would be a miracle. It's amazing.
I cried. Fuck I want a TJ
Me too! A dark Green Sahara!!!
I found one with 81k for 3600 with a hardtop, I need to buy it
+brandon maxwell what state are u from?? That's a steal
+j. Guero12 it was b8, it was the I'm leaving for the military cash only
Everyone at my school has one :v which is why I don't want one
this is one of the most heartfelt and beautiful roman intros i think we've ever seen.
Nice review! I still own a 1998 TJ back in Chile. I drove it for many years. Now I live in Sweden but I will always miss my TJ.
Nice Rick and Morty cameo
That speech at the end... "Love HER back." Many RCR videos make me laugh, but this one is different. This one is deeper. This one might just be my favorite of them all.
Used to own an 86 and 01 Cherokee and finally wanted to own a TJ. This is the nicest narration that I’ve seen. Missed the old Jeep but not it’s reliability.
my mom, had a '94 YJ. loved that truck so much
My teenage friend had a jeep with 4.0l inline 6 and it hauled balls. Also a stick shift we all learned on. rip pat
I like how he gradually starts talking shit about the Jeep lmao. Love the TJ
Everyone always forgets the 2.4L I4 DOHC they had from 2003-2006...
Which video is best re-upload?
Certainly my favorite vid of yours sir. Great work.
that 4.0 is legendary, the perfect amount of power to slide on gravel roads and have fun in the snow
You can still kinda make out most of the plate at 8:06, but fuck it.
+Southern Nihilism UUUGHGHGH! DAMNIT!
+Southern Nihilism I'm done blurring plate after this. No more.
+Southern Nihilism welp looks like were in for upload #4
THAT'S the mistake he's been making????!?
+djhero0071 every time he re-uploaded it there were different shots missing pixilation. And you know that right now he's going back over the review he's supposed to upload today to make sure it's perfect.
You should totally review one of those AMC Eagle 4X4 station wagons
All these re-uploads fill me with Re-de-terminaton.
Adam Smith. The FJs,.., aka fucking face Jeep
OMG.. this was like the funniest thing i've listened to in a while. You are hillarious. I'm looking at getting a jeep TJ. Glad I found this channel !!
"............. the last Jeep that is truly unsafe........... " great line.
Hey, we're all not perfect. As long as you're okay with your work Mr. Regular. I do find the growing re-upload title in the video funny though.
My beloved Jeep TJ is the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. In almost 19 years, I only had to replace the clutch.
I CAN RUN OVER EVERYTHING!!! That's me in my lifted Cherokee.
OutlawUniverse I hope you mean the old XJs and not the new ones.
O|||||||O

man, as an Undertale speedrunner who dailies a ‘99 TJ with 220k strong original miles... this is perhaps the greatest video of all time. they really do love you back as long as you love em. good ole Toriel she is ❤️
I have so many stories from my first TJ, driving from Michigan to Connecticut with a Buick skylark on a tow dolly, going 60 there was no brakes, you just had to down shift and engine brake 2 miles ahead to slow down.
life is strange, undertale, and Rick and Morty references? fuck yeah.
I'd love to have one of these jeeps someday but "hella cash"
I think you now should upload a new video comparing the errors to the final version. Kinda like clicking the "Edited" link on Facebook.
Save a TJ, buy one now
XJ GANG WE GOTTA RISE UP FROM OUR OPPRESSORS AND SHOW TJ GANG THAT WE DESERVE A HIGHER SPOT ON THE LIST
This is why you have a lower spot on the list
You fucked up the title, I think it should be "Wrangler" and not "Wranger"
+MultiHackle DANMSDpnsa[ingm[a'sdfg
+RegularCars We've all had days like this.
+RegularCars It's okay. We still believe in you. :p
+MultiHackle Good ol' Ford Wranger.
+InvictvsNox we all know how fords are
I have a 1991 Jeep Yj. 100% Stock except for the 31 inch tires. Everyone wants me to mod it but I won't. 91 was the last year they came with the traditional single roll bar. After that they installed the family package cage which just looks bulky IMO.
OMG the feels at the end there! Want a TJ so bad. Savin' my pannies and currently paying off a new car. Great video guys... THE FEEEELS!
John, I just turned 47 up here in Santa Cruz. Have my eye on a used TJ now!
@@markharris6293 hey that's great! If you know of any good places to explore let me know!
@@gsl2 will do. I’m still shopping for a TJ. Higher prices for higher miles is all I’m finding. I’ll keep looking until I find a deal I like.
@@markharris6293 tell me about it! I shopped for quite a while. I finally decided to go with a 4 cylinder because they were more in my price range and I'm happy with what I bought. I do plan to regear at some point but I'm not planning on running anything more than 31" or 32"
I've seen several really nice looking YJ's priced similar or less than I paid for my 4cyl TJ and the more I look at them the more they're growing on me.
My only issue with giving the JKs waves is they all have tinted windows, so you can hardly see person and if they give you a jeep wave
Dude! I feel the exact same way about JK's! I love the straight six and 5 speed! Haha i thought i was the only one who felt that way, i see so many "fuckbois" with their jks nowadays
I don't even have crank windows, I have half doors with sliding windows!
Wow... Syd Matters
Haven't heard that in a long time
Love the Too All of You by Sid Matters reference at the beginning 😂
Your bit about maintaining older vehicles, especially iconic ones, really hit home for me. I see so many people in my age group buying reasonably nice Miatas and absolutely destroying them with cheap eBay mods and dangerous driving.
And this extends across the spectrum to other cars, whether they're interesting or not. I've had mine for 7 years now and it legitimately looks better now than it did when I first started driving it at age 17. With how much happiness it's brought me, it would be disrespectful to run it into the ground.
