    Great job on your tribute blade. Turned out very nice. The traditional wrap really finished it off nicely. Only thing missing was a nice menuki.

    a note on the handles.... full depth cut one on side, and clearance cut the other... the idea is no way for the blade to split the seam like you would have if the inside was cut half depth on both sides... love your work man, just a pointer

      I'm probably going to do some hunting knives and such for a bit before the next sword, but it is definitly on the agenda. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

    It's a looker for sure, the hamone came out great, the copper work is better than mine,🤣 on that part, I wonder about using silver soldier aka silphos? Have to use higher heat, but we used it in refrigeration for pressure lines so it seems stronger? Oh, dont worry about the traditionalist snobbery. Folks need to lighten up about artistic expression. They can complain when its them making one on YT. I'm curious, I've seen folks use a bedding technique on the handles after slotting for the tang. Do you use one? I'm saving for a mini mill, so darn handy and much easier and quicker than hand work.

    • @Mysticmountainforge
      @Mysticmountainforge  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for watching, I greatly appreciate it, I didn't bed the tang on this one but I do on other knives especially like my chef knives. I love the mini mill I have, it makes a lot of work so much easier.

    Really nice work, I am working on my first katana at the moment, so this was a great video! What solder did you use for your copper fittings? I've been using copper phosphorus solder and it is way to silvery.

    • @Mysticmountainforge
      @Mysticmountainforge  Před 2 lety

      Thanks, Thats awesome! I use the same kind of solder, it's all I can get locally, I plan on looking for a better alternative for future builds.

    • @Mysticmountainforge
      @Mysticmountainforge  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! Yep I had to Sacrifice putting a menuki on this one due to a time crunch, I will make sure to get them on the next one though.

    Nice result! I went and checked the length of the tang on my (real vintage believe it or not) katana. You were right to lengthen yours I think. I maybe would have made the guard bigger (woulda coulda shoulda, haven’t), but I think you can be well happy with what you made.

    • @Mysticmountainforge
      @Mysticmountainforge  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks, the tang was definitely too short before I welded the extension on, as for the guard I would have liked it to be bigger as well, I learned a lot on this one, I'm building up to doing a pattern welded Katana, then a Odachi eventually.

    what is the black layer given? At the time of gilding the blade

    • @Mysticmountainforge
      @Mysticmountainforge  Před 2 lety +1

      The black material I put around the wood is dimpled leather. Traditionally ray skin would have been used but it was unavailable to me at the time this sword was made. I greatly appreciate you watching!
