    Totally disagree that Tremors has a bad, much less "terrible" premise. It's a love letter and homage to old school 50s type monster flicks. Honestly I think it's brilliant and one of my favorite horror-comedies with fun practical effects, a good score, and better than expected acting. It's very re-watchable and this review didn't even explain how it's a terrible premise outside of "killer worms" which is a perfect premise for a monster movie set in the desert. IMO of course.

      Well if you compare it to the jumpscares of the likes of conjuring and really any average modern horror movie than it is. In a sense that the jumpscares that lacked in the Babadook are the startling kind - like someone clapping before your eyes. Babadooks jumpscares are much more subtle, they're always "announced", devoid of loud music of sudden noise, yet they do surprise you, even if, once again, you've been expecting them any second now.

    • @miloradvlaovic
      @miloradvlaovic Před 3 měsíci +1

      Bcs it's utterly *reductive* . You know when you take an already existing notion, and randomly and incoherently change one thing about it and call yourself an artistic genius.
      Think printing out Mona Lisa and covering her eyes with a duct tape, gluing a single eye in the middle and sketching a tulip behind her, and then claiming you've solved the mystery of her smile - she's always been a Dutch cyclops, who had a rare neurological condition causing her to smile awkwardly and fart simultaneously upon smelling a tulip.
      Likewise, a fallen angel from Judaic and Christian lore being spacegoo accidentally kept in a dusty tin can at a random university is what you *objectively* call a (very much completely) horrible premise.

  • @themantyf1116
    @themantyf1116 Před 4 měsíci +2

    I think we have seen a different version of Talk to Me, since I would put it in the exact opposite list.
    The premise is actually great, the idea of talking to the dead becoming addictive or a trap for those dealing with grief, it just falls flat in the latter half when the movie stops relly developing things.
    Also, several of these could hardly be considered horrible premises. Children's rhymes have been always creepy, a children book as medium isn't really that new or head-tilting, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg making a parody always sounds great, monsters eating you from below that can sense you if you are on the ground is actually an excellent premise.

  • @sailorhathor9705
    @sailorhathor9705 Před 4 měsíci +4

    There are a couple movies on this list that most certainly do not sound terrible in their premise. But you know what movie does? "GET OUT." If I had known it involved brain transplants, I would have never gone to see it. Brain transplants?! That's some schlocky 1950s monster movie crap right there. But the movie was so good beyond that concept that I loved it! "Get Out" should have been on this list instead of "Happy Death Day" or "Oculus."

    • @sailorhathor9705
      @sailorhathor9705 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @themantyf1116 It's part of the premise. If you described what the movie is about, a family that does brain transplants for their rich clients to give them new bodies would be part of it.

    • @themantyf1116

      If you want to describe it, it's the black experience and the exploitation from white people.
      The brain surgery is a secondary detail functional to the story, calling it part of the premise is like calling "The Martian" a movie about a man duct-taping equipment.

    Lmao I’m convinced Shaun of the dead, The descent, and St.Maude are the only horror movies uk has produced the way you guys always mention them in these lists, and the worst part is that they’re mediocre at best. It’s 2024 Shaun of the dead and the decent are not good movies compared to what we have 😂

    The main character in Talk to Me is so unbearable that it ruined my experience with the film.
