Many of those roads are named after plants and shrubs as well as trees. Lonicera is a plant family (the emphasis is on the first syllable) rather than an individual plant - honeysuckle belongs to it. There is also Lonicera Nitida, which is a form of Box. Wolfsbane, woodruff and Santolina are again all flowering shrubs which contain a number of different types. Some very interesting and imaginative names used there - Betony, Hedera (ivy) and dewberry, to name a few.
Hi Phil enjoyed the walk around the Yew tree est south side looked nice and I'm pleased to the Archers pub I remember a Pub called the Tiger and another Pub just off Redwood Road I can't remember the name of
That pub was called 'The Foresters' . It was the only pub I ever remember seeing built and then demolished. It was in Bramley Road. Behind it was a block of flats called Churchill House ,10 stories I believe. I lived on Yew Tree from until I was 22 . I moved back in 1990 and still live here now. The six story flats were called Yew Tree Gardens . The other flats were indeed Bermuda Mansions named after the ship SS Bermuda and opened by the captain of the ship in the mid 50's
Phil your video at 5 mins is the site of Bermuda Mansions and Yew Tree Labour club. In the early 90's Sandwell council spent between £10-12 M on improvements to the flats including central heating and then they were demolished 4-5 years later. In my previous post I said SS Bermuda it should have said SS Queen of Bermuda, I have no idea why they were named after it.
@@MrGabb61 Now that you have explained the area of these flats I feel I missed an opportunity to have explore that area a little more. But again many thanks
When we first moved where I live, only a few cars, now it's like a car park, are we getting to lazy were we don't do our gardens and that's why they pave over them, I hate no one has gardens no more
@@thepharcyde5239 my step dad loved gardening, but you don't see anyone doing front gardens anymore, always someone doing their gardens and had a chat, not anymore
