  • I walk around WEST BROMWICH visiting buildings that could be classed as EYESORE BUILDINGS. Some look ugly, some look architecturally ridiculous or some are falling into disrepair. I walk to seven such buildings that, in my opinion, fall into the category as EYESORE BUILDINGS

The final eyesore building in this film is located on REFORM STREET opposite PRIMARK in the NEW SQUARE shopping centre

Phil, your WB walks are the best thing on You Tube. Even more than watching Pink Floyd (and that's saying something!!). Thank You so much

I used to live in West Bromwich. Shocked at what they’ve done to the town. Especially the high street. It used to look and feel like a grand high street, with big name stores, a functioning library, well kept gardens (remembrance gardens) and general facade. Now it looks ridiculous. Also miss the digital clock that used to shine at the top right corner of the West Bromwich building society tower. I wish there was footage of the high street from the late 80s / early 90s era.

Completely agree with your comment. Yes I remember that clock many thanks for the reminder. Sadly as things stand it will take something monumental to revive the High Street now.

The fort at Dartmouth park , I thought it was a kids play area, looks like a lot of pallets were used to build that

    1. I wonder if there's anything councillors can do to get these flats used? Sad if they're empty because of a planning dispute, given the housing shortage.
    4. Good thing about the Bond Wolfe building is that when you see it you know you're arriving in WB so you can do a quick U-turn ;-)
    5. I'm ambivalent about The Public - it was good to have something ambitious in the town, and £72m sounds a lot but it's less than one thousandth of the cost of the new London-Bham railway... I went there with our little one a few times, it was quite good, though probably not as good as the new Walsall gallery, which also fits in better with its environment.

Strange why these issues regarding these flats cannot be resolved, maybe they will surprise us one day. Thanks again

The large bond Wolfe building , now home to boat people, I saw a video on here about it , used to be a premier inn hotel a few years back

It certainly doesn't look like a place that I would spend a night, even if it was still a Premier. I never understood why Premier chose that building as a their base for West Brom!!

The recycling centre in the making would be number 1 for me then the pavilion would definitely be next, it’s so out of keeping with the park surroundings. The back of the arts centre/ college is shocking, you’d have thought as the queens square area is more or less redundant the bust of Phil Lynott would have been relocated somewhere more prominent.

The church looks more like a community centre

You are spot on, the cross on the wall is the only symbol that gives anyone a clue that it is indeed a church

Was it built as a church or did it have another use before the church took over ?

It's crazy isn't it?? it seems to be an insurmountable problem to get these apartments let out, they could end up being demolished

    • @Amanda12325

It is crazy, I passed these many a time and nothing has been done to them. Total waste of resources and valuable land that could be utilised for habitable accommodation or something else of use!
