Other Bisaya people who came to Mindanao were the Ilonggos and Kinaray-aand Kinaray-a from Iloilo in Panay; they settled around Cotabato and brought with them the Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a languages. Other Bisaya languages spoken in Mindanao are Surigaonon and Butuanon. The Ilocanos, Tagalogs, and other people of Luzon also settled in Mindanao and learned the Cebuano language.

Good explanation about the word Bisaya. People tend to think, especially the Tagalogs and other northerners in the Philippines, that Bisaya equates to Cebuano people and their language not knowing that the word Bisaya is a general term for people living in different provinces in the Visayas and having a language of their own.

And in Mindanao, people normally speak Cebuano or Bisaya (the same thing). But they also learn Tagalog in school, so they know Tagalog too. The schools are mostly in English and they watch TV and movies in English, so English is becoming more widely understood and spoken there.

Tagalog and English are the Lingua Franca of the Philippines. Yet, Bisaya is the Lingua Franca of the Visayans and Mindanao. If you can speak Bisaya, the people in those two latter areas would prefer that, over speaking Tagalog and English. Of course if you can speak the local language, that would be best from their point, as they are the most comfortable with it. It is like National, Regional, Local.@@ZFCaio

In fact some Malaysians and Indonesians that are austronesian descent came from the Philippines. Not the other way around. Proto-Malayo-Polynesian and Lapita culture probably came from the Philippines too. There are indeed Malaysians and Indonesians migrating in the Philippines, but they are later on the arrival of the Hindu-Arabic-Buddhist influence spreading into the Philippines. There are migrations happening at those times including the trading of different kingdoms of every southeast asia, china, india, japan, and other parts of the world. Negritos who are the Pre Australoid descendants of the lineage might probably be from Indonesia and Malasyia, but they are just small in numbers in the Philippines and only too few who had mixture of Negrito gene of the Philippine population. There are more Spanish and Chinese genes in the Philippine population than the Australoid genes.
