Coaching or Consulting are respected more often at advanced ages. Look into certification for your primary experience.
Yes! No question you are right. I can attest to this being true.
Being prepared for change can be extra challenging as we age. Diseases crop up, cancer treatment, physical limitations, and other situations may be thrown at us that we didn’t see coming and yet we still need to work.
You are right, being prepared for change is 'extra challenging' as we age. But, the key is to prepare while we can.
Leaving corporate after more than 25 years in the technology space. Lots of my former colleagues and friends exiting corporate as well. Be proud of your age and the experience that you have accumulated over the years - I am!
I agree 100%. We should be proud of our age and experience. Look at these things as an advantage, a benefit of living a long life.
A particular IT skill I want to further develop is programming in the C++ language, so I can market this skill freelance.
I know I have't told you this but I admire your motivation! I'm glad we met.
I applied for a position at 57. It was a position that I was well qualified for. Got an interview but those interviewing me ran thru the questions without really looking at me. Got the interview because of my age and didn't get the position because of my age.
Sorry to hear this. I know it is extremely frustrating to not get a job you know you are well qualified for. I hear this all the time. It frustrates me that qualified older adults are turned away. Consider starting a side hustle. This could be a great career option. Watch Side Hustle Rules, my other CZcams channel for ideas.
Good interview Lou! He is very knowledgeable! 🙏🙏👏👏😊
Hey Peter! Cotton is very knowledgable. He came highly recommended by a good friend. Thanks for watching!

What is a good framework for evaluating and documenting one's skills?
What I would do is seek advice from a respected career coach or counselor who has some wisdom and experience in the field. I interviewed Cotton Phillips, one such person recently. Check out the video. It's titled How to Make a Career Change at 40, 50, or 60. Contact him. His info is in the video or in the description box.
Career change at 60 plus?? Thank you Lou for anything that encourages people to explore other careers or start a business. Like Cotton said have multiple resumes, letters match to your skills and strengths take it from someone who has had 200 or more job interviews.
Wow! 200 job interviews sounds like a lot. I hope that wasn't all in a short period of time. Thank you for the comment.
