- Virtually everyday an Over50tv viewer writes and tells me their story about not being able to find a good job. The most common reason they cite is, employer's won't hire me because they think I'm too old". So, in this video I'll tell you about a field where employers want you, regardless of your age.

That's so awesome you put up my comment. I'm a woman by the way. The friend I mentioned is not getting SS. He plans to work as long as he can. What you said about getting a teaching job while earning a degree is so true because that's what I've been doing along with my full time job. I've also had 3yrs of paid internships because it appears that either the younger generation is not interested and/or they don't have the work ethic and experience to see the extra work through. What I'm trying to do is parlay my experience into a new career. I don't care if I work until I die, I only want a job I love because my current job is at an end for me for a few reasons.
Sorry about the gender faux pas and thank you for the update and comment. I very much appreciate that you watch my channel.
Why solely focus on young people as a teacher / tutor? Why not be a tutor to senior citizens in subject areas they aren't so adept at, like using the internet?
Great idea!
I think you are proving that is a good field to be in!
I worked briefly doing some training in my field. The pay for specialties is very high!! If you think about it, someone has to train the newbies. I will go back to it more than likely when I finish the contract I am on now. the hours are whatever YOU want and it's not a 5 day a week grind.
And, the money is great.
Thanks, good info
I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Got a job at age 53 paying $200K with a chance for $350K a year if I get approval for OT. That said, I'm not even 4 months in and it's a tough job to keep (software engineer).
I imagine the software engineer field is competitive. I also wonder if this is a case of, "the more you earn, the more is expected of you."
It's great if you can get in and stay in, the problem with the tech sector is it has the worst ageism of them all in my opinion.
@@adolfoforonda3363 You're not kidding. I had to request a team change after I was being lorded over by a glorified intern with an affinity for the mundane. The oldest trick in the book: conflating insider knowledge like the network password with intrinsic ability like math and linear algebra. The key to management is giving people things they are good at but bad managers intentionally keep you outside your comfort zone (things THEY are good at).
@@Over50tv Definitely. Since 1996 (when I was making $52,000) I had the "Come in. Close the door" meeting about how "You're a senior and we expect more from you". That part is par for the course. The trouble is when you get the "litmus test" which is usually your being set up to fail. One company said "You only get one (git) check-in and you have to change two branches for two projects and you can't ask for help". I'm fairly certain that was impossible. In the past there was always more work. Now, I'm not so sure.
When you are over 50 years old, chances are the person that's hiring is 10 or 20 years younger than you.
Yes, I've seen that 90% of the time.
