  • In this session, Drupla teaches on all-pervasive suffering, the third of the root sufferings in the human realm. When we first hear about the third suffering, it might give us an impression of another type of suffering, but in fact, this is the basis for the other two root sufferings. This root suffering pervades all conditioned phenomena. And we all know that our entire existence is formed by causes and conditions.
We also learn that from observing these three root sufferings in samsara, our mind will give rise to three types of compassion. These three are:
Compassion based on sentient beings as the object
Compassion based on dharma as object
Compassion that is beyond any object
Each type of compassion arises according to our level of practice.
To conclude, Drupla teaches about the eight great sufferings and emphasizes the importance of understanding suffering as it is part of the Four Truths of Noble Beings-the first and fundamental teaching of all.
