Excellent video, really informative and helpful I've watched a fair few of these "Lighting tutorials" and this is the first one that i actually didn't find myself scratching my head over at least one of the points raised. Texels had me scratching my head a fair bit until i watched this tutorial so thanks a bunch for clearing that up, and the info on increasing padding is a lot clearer than some tutorials too.
Just subbed, and will be adding your game to my wishlist as it looks really intriguing, again thanks for the video.

Thank you SO MUCH! For some reason, I couldn't find a video where anyone talked about whether or not it was okay to prioritize lightmap resolution (even on academic sites like PluralSight and LinkedIn Learning). I wasn't sure if they had to be kept consistent the same way that texture maps all have to conform to the same texel density in order to avoid blurriness and mismatching levels of detail. I've done a ton of research and I feel like lightmapping is one of the most poorly understood and explained topics when it comes to Unity.

Thanks a lot. I don't know why but there aren't many Unity tutorials on Lighting. What is sad is that most of these problems are common yet aren't answered on the forum.

Hi @Skookum Arts, I have a issue about baked lightmapping on terrain. I have an object (such as tree, building and rock) but that object doesn't cast baked shadow on that terrain when baked lightmapping is done. How to fix this? please help me cz i am working on a project

Thank you for your Lightmaps tips! My question is how do you lightmap combine indoor and outdoor scene best. Imagine an outdoor scene and there is a house without windows no sunlight are coming in and no spot or point light inside. With a click of a button the roof is gone and the sunlight comes in and everything is dark inside. So i can not bake this scene. The house can not be static anymore. how would you do this scene? Hope you understand what I mean. Thanks in advance for a reply.

Hmm tricky. I think the easiest way would be to use realtime lights. You could potentially get around this by using a mixed light. If you were to bake a mixed light where that light's indirect intensity was at 0. Then at runtime you could turn that light on and off and it should composite properly with the rest of the scene. I haven't messed with this much, but I'm pretty sure you can swap light maps at runtime. So you could bake two version of the inside of the building and swap them when the roof comes off. Hope this helps :)

@@SkookumArts Thanks for your thoughts, I would have to bake with a third party software to make 2 different lightmaps set. I know that I can save unity rendered lightmap but Im not shore that I can assign them to texture slot 2 with them. I have to test. Perhaps this would be a nice tutorial you could do. Combine Indoor - outdoor scen. I dont think anybody have thought about that. Cant find anything about this anywhere. Thank you for your reply! I dont want to use realtime light its too heavy for VR.

Hi there! This is one of the most understandable videos on light baking so thank you very much!
I have a question, what size of a lightmap do you get with these settings (in megabytes, per scene)?
I get ridiculous number of lightmaps (174x 1024x1024) adding up to almost 2Gb, and that's only for my background assets with settings lower than yours. I'm scared to try to properly bake entire scene, please help 😅
