- Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has unveiled six key pledges, which he said will form the first steps towards Labour policy in government. The announcement comes after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak outlined his five main targets last January.
However, when we asked the public to differentiate between Labour and Conservative pledges, the majority couldn't. Kate Garraway and Rob Rinder question why this is to Shadow Science Secretary Peter Kyle.

More of the same, fancy words with no real meaning behind them!! What a depressing joke the political system has become in the UK!!
Go join Putin, then. Let him think for you.
@@IntelligentArtefact Huh, my comment has nothing to do with Putin!!
@@IntelligentArtefact President Putin is a hero, saving Russian speakers from democide in Ukraine.
I mean we can't have politicians do their jobs now can we..... gotta keep Westminster as a clubhouse, coke and yucking it up on the benches.
Starmer's speeches chloroform me.
How come?
Clothing or what?
If so in what region?
God, how boring is that I don't believe I can stand it for 5 seconds, let alone 5 long, boring, depressing years .
How did you survive the 14 years of Tories?
Your hedge fund gamble paid off?
Boy do I love the excitement of the last 14 years. More of that please!

Baron ShinwellâŠduh, learn your history
I'm sorry Labour / conservatives ...but you will never get my vote ever again.
Everything else in life has moved forward, sometimes not for the better , but politics is completely stagnant and has not been modernised for years and the trust of the people has long gone.
We can blame Blair for that, haven't voted since.
Empty promises just like all the others
In another four years from the GE weâll be sick of Lab
@@adv957 agreed. What surprise me the most is in all that time wise British people and I know thereâs plenty who can do the right thing for British people havenât formed a Party that appeals to me
â@@adv957 None of them do
I'm already sick of them!
Isn't this the third time he's done this?
He went back on the other 6 pledges like they were nothing.
Sure, the economic situation is difficult and you've got to be realistic and adaptive, but all i'll say is that Labour's gotta be aspirational as well, and they've gotta stick to it because the country needs change and Labour's got a record regarding potential policy to fight against.
Was worse than that. There were 10 pledges.
God help us if Labour get inâŠ..đ€Šââïž
Why ? it will be no different to the tories.
@@JoeBlogs720 I agree your right, equally the tories have a made a royal mess too, Iâm voting for Reform, their polices meet my standards on what I want .
France looks good!
Will say anything to anyone to get into power !
"NO GIMMICKS" đ
Rwanda is a gimmick
Get stuffed Starmer
Hilariously terrible. Just telling people whatâs even the point in voting at all if thatâs all weâre getting from a âLabourâ party.
Starmer is a Blair wanna be!!!!
Blair will be there in the shadows manipulating Starmer's strings. Imo.
British politics seem to be following Blair's footsteps, the civil service are serving their own which was Blairs design, 'Conservative' and 'Labour'. Neither do what they say 'on the tin'.
Goodbye middle class!
Starmer is a boring but dangerous plank. Zero personality, zero ideas, zero respect for woman, zero respect for democracy, zero respect for the UK.
"Economic stability" means absolutely nothing. It's the actions taken to do that, that matters. We don't want silly empty promises, we want concrete plans. Trouble is noone is giving the country solid concrete plans just open ended blar blar pledges.
And he going to bring hamas from gaza soon we don't need terrorist we have been attacked enough let's think about the people that lost their life's from bombings
There is nothing left wing about the current Labour Party.
They are sheep in wolf's clothing. Just wait until the Unions take over the country...again!
Pledge from any party means nothing having said that majority of MPS in parliament do nothing but argue against each other like little children lm shocked to see how they treat immigrants. Immigrants are living a better life than our own people because they get everything from taxpayers money that government glorifying in giving them.
They are all career politicians nowadays .nothing will change.
More care for disabled and elderly please!
Wait - Starmer has some NEW pledges? I wonder how long they will last. The old ones didn't last very long. "When the landscape changes, the Labour party will adapt" - in other words the pledges mean nothing. Labour is the new Tory party as you can see by recent defections from Tory MPs who want to save their seats in the next general election, and they're taking in some real pieces of work.
6 not quite pledges to go alongside the 10 he made to clinch the Labour leadership race, and remind me how many of them he made good on?
Has blair said OK starmers ideas????
I haven't eaten two days a week every week for almost ten years now.
They want me to vote for them requires them to reduce the retirement age back to 65. This is the best way to increase jobs for young workers. I set my retirement plans for retirement at 65. Then they changed it to 67.
You have no hope if you think retirement age is ever going to come down.
First steps.. Toddler plan.
The line of questioning was a bit bizarre. I do NOT want a an ideological government that just sells council houses because they ideologically believe it is a good thing. I do want a pragmatic one, I don't see why its a bad thing to say you're not ideological... ?
Because if you're not ideological, then you don't stand for anything. That's his point.
If ideology isn't a part of the labour leaderships MO, then why should they protect our rights if they stand in the way of GDP growth?
The line of questioning was bizarre at all. Its bizarre that you think politicians don't need morals to do their job.
This line of questioning exposes the fact that there is no distinction between the two major parties: they echo the same positions on any given issue while citing their only measurable difference as "competence". It is not pragmatic to state that you hold no ideological position. All this does is further expose the fact that The Labour Party's only goal is power, at the expense of sacrificing every principle the party once stood for. For whatever reason, it is also exactly the kind of neo-liberal fence-sitting that is viewed as successful political strategy in this demented excuse for a country.
@@molsy1768 I see no sign of any morals in any Labour or Tory politicians.
Do you think they would be supporting genocide in Gaza, or Nazis in Kiev, or US aggression around the world, or keep Julian Assange locked up in Belmarsh prison if they had any morals?
They are without morals, the only thing they care about is lining their own pockets.
The ideology of social welfare is essential.
â@@Joe22245 It's New Labour again then, Changed Labour. Corbyn has strong policies. Now we have 1997 re-hash it seems. Thatcher said 'New Labour have no values, they are vacuous and artificial, at least Old Labour had principles".

I think we're all so jaundiced, that we gorget the hypocrisy of the last 14 years...the conservatives have a list of criminal lies behind them so long it could get into the Guinness book of Records.
Sir Kia Starmer has worked is self very hard up to a very high level and being 98 for his hard work he's not a natural politician he doesn't want to be a politician but realises that if somebody doesn't stand up and be counted we're going to go down the pan like America.
Reform party ,you dont do not moan .
Vote Reform, get more Labour not less. Reform voters are mainly ex-Tory voters. You will simply split the vote and allow Labour a free reign to completely finish off the Country!
Both parties are a waste of space

@danmorley6517 Most people who voted Tory will feel right at home with Keir đ€Ł Most exciting policy is nationalised energy and even Reform Uk want that!!
The second PR is implemented I am voting for a socialist party

More Starmer pledges, Yawn.
Starmer needs to go and someone who isn't making The Moves Like Thatcher from a bit more to the left needs to be in charge.
Thatcher saved this Country from the Left!
