He was probably my favourite character in fall of cybertron
Getting this guy has made my inner child smile. I always wanted him as a kid, but I remember clearly my mom scolding me because she couldn't afford it. I think times like that drive me to be successful; I'm appeasing my inner child while sharing this awesome world with my son now.
I just realised that the closest we got to Perceptor in the Bayverse was Scalpel due to his size and the mass shifting limitations and those kinds of stuff. Although it would be cute to have a little humanoid microscope transformer on the Autobots side that just hangs out (kind of like Wheelie and Brains) AKA Perceptor.
At least Perceptor from Rescue Bots Academy got away with it by simply having his microscope mode be Cybertronian
There are a few things that Titans Return, I think, did better: hole in back, movable microscope, better arm hinges and transformation…
neither figure got his face likeness perfect.
Overall still getting this figure.
TR had a toy face, this just feels…off.
A microscope that moved would’ve been so cool!
I artist think the Titans Return Perceptor is quite nice.

Thank you Hasbro! When he was listed as a Deluxe Class, I was afraid he would be way too short, but he is a taller deluxe, like Impactor and Ironhide. This means he will scale (almost) perfectly with Kingdom Blaster!😎😎😎

I like him. He has a nice shape and the colours look really nice. Looks great with the rest of the 86 cast too! The transparent tray scares me as I’m a bit heavy handed 😬 Great review as always PVP! 👊

He looks really good but I wish he had a panel to cover his back in robot mode and his head in alt mode. There’s definitely gonna be an upgrade kit for that later on
Wouldn't his head rotate around so you couldn't see his face in alt modes?
I am sure a 3rd party will find a way to fk that gap.

For some reason when I saw the intro pose for preceptor I thought of sentinel saying “so a deal had to be made with megatron” and then preceptor point his gun at him
Also considering the design of that thigh joint it does look like someone could make an upgrade piece that will retain the upper thigh rotation while also being able to lock the transformation movement in the thigh.
I could totally see a 3P releasing an upgrade with a basic magnifying scope. Looks like 1 screw would remove it. Very glad to have him on pre order.

This is a wonderful figure and quoting percepter," i fear my wounds are fatal", he has melted my heart and i absolutely need him in my collection now all we need to complete the movie collection is blaster then I'll be contempt^^

Saw ur devil Saviour trouble maker in the background, thought I would mention that I would recommend leaving the arm off until you get the other one. It causes him to lean to one side and that causes stress on the left leg, which can lead to it snapping off. Just a tip!

Wow can't believe he's a deluxe. Impressive. As a Studio 86 figure he should come with a gimmick tho, as Kup, Hot Rod come with gimmicks.
Hot Rod was able to have those gimmicks because he's sold as Voyager. The deluxe SS 86 figures don't have gimmicks other than Kup.

I just got my hands on him two days ago at a New Jersey Walmart of all places here in America! He was hard to find and a lot of stores in the neighboring New York City were asking $17 more than what his retail value was.
Perceptor and motormaster were the figures I got like the day I seen the movie on a short summer vacation in 1986 when I was seven.I don't hardly ever plan on buying a figure but I'll have to get this.

Fantastic review, really pleased to see a decent rendition of Perceptor. He will be my first and only Perceptor. As great as he looks, to me when something lands in the Studio Series line, my expectation is that there shouldn’t be open cavities.
This is a sore point for me, I didn’t like it on 86 Jazz and I don’t like seeing it here either.
Studio Series needs to live up to the lines name. In my view.

I really wanted this 86 Perceptor figure because when I was 7 and went to see the 1986 movie Perceptor was the figure my parents bought me at Toys R Us on that little vacation.This studio 86 version is not only surprisingly cartoon accurate but he's a little bigger than the average deluxe these days and has zero kibble.I also think that most studio 86 figures are of a slightly higher quality than say kingdom or legacy.I finally found one of these at a realistic price($23 with free shipping)a couple of dollars less than retail.Being patient really pays off because to this day May 2023 it's always been hard to find one for less than $30 with shipping(most are closer to $40) I just got lucky.
I like his bot mode BETTER than the Magic Square or MF-54 versions. I like the bigger ‘scope, because in my mind it would always be an energy cannon. I like the knees and the that the lower legs aren’t too huge. I also like the blue better… seems like a very strong effort.
You've sold me on this. I might customize this to be more G1 toy accurate and give him a faceplate
I can probably expect to see this figure at retail stores in January, unless it's released much earlier than that.

Still waiting on someone to create a decent enough upgrade kit for covering up his open forearms. I’ve seen a couple options but none that look great yet.
Can you turn around the head in microscope mode?
We definitely need more Arcee figures, more specifically Prime Arcee.

It can. It def make the alt mode look better
tbh perceptor despite being a microscope ,he actually mainly stay big even in microscope in the cartoon .So technically he scales in alt mode too
He was originally tall. Height was comparable to blaster. But the n season 3 and he was turned into dwarf.

Man, I do love this figure, but as someone that loves transformers primarily as toys, seeing the loose transformation hinge on the thigh, and that ratchet joint for the chest really does bother me. I'd probably either end up buying two with one's legs permanently affixed in robot mode, or just find ways to strengthen the legs and weaken the chest hinge on one figure.
Also, does his head still fit into the torso cavity if you face it the other way so there's no visible head syndrome? Just curious.
He is surprisingly big!

8:13 Why did you leave the head like that? It can easily rotate 180° around to conceal more effectively in alt mode.

I really hope this isn't the finished product. That giant gaping hole at the back is just a glaring flaw and does a diservice to the Studio Series 86 line.
I imagine DNA design might come out with something for it :)
Most Hasbro figures are gappy. Why do you think almost every figure has an upgrade or gap filler kit being made by third parties. If Hasbro would just add a few bucks per figure to correct this, I'd feel like these figures would actually be worth the cost.

Why does a Studio Series toy include an alternate mode that never appeared in the movie? Perceptor's tank mode is based on the original toy but he never did this in the movie or anywhere in the show. (Which is weird since you'd think having him appear as a tank in the cartoon would make it easier to sell than a microscope. What kid is going to get excited about a transforming microscope?)

What’s with all the Perceptors being released lately?
For me… his shape is fine, his alt mode is weird (a gimmick to give kids real microscopes), but his colours always looked off to me.
This bot looks good though… The range of motion is so good compared to the old G1!It’s made me a bit more open to this Autobot scientist.
