Get Distance For Life (Looser = Faster)

  • Everyone wants more distance right? They sure do. What if you could get distance for life though wouldn't that be great? Well I'm here to tell you that you can get more distance for life you just have to learn how to do it.
    The main key is to be super loose. Something that is looser swings faster than something that is tighter. That is just a fact. So if that is the case then why not swing loose? You don't have to be strong to be loose. This means that you should be able to do this for life.
    If your wrists are loose today and 10 or 20 years from now then you are still loose. The only thing that would slow you down is the ability to turn your body as fast as when you were younger. The problem is, people are trying to hit the ball harder with their arms. When you hit you tighten. I know this feels good but the club swings slower.
    So watch this tip and learn a simple image or feeling you can be constantly thinking about to loosen up. You may not be good at it at first but keep working on it so you get a swing for life.

      Wish I could find something. Starting to think golf just isnt for me
      Watched dozens upon dozens of CZcams coaches and watched 100s of videos.
      They all make it look effortless and I for the life of me just don't get any of it
      My body just doesn't want to golf 😂

      As you see I helped the gentleman above and I can help you. You need to make this simple. See it differently and you will get it. Most people want to hit the ball and hit it hard with their arms. This is dues to human nature of trying to hit the object in front of you. Watch:
      czcams.com/video/fuOJxv_22Hk/video.html
      Now you know you aren't hitting anything just divide the swing into 2 parts. Your arms unit and your body. The arm unit hinges and rehinges. This affects the spin on the ball. The body coils and uncoils. This affects the direction.
      So instead of getting both parts at once get half (the arm unit) then get the other half. Everyone wants everything so they get nothing.
      So start here:
      czcams.com/video/5_O0H2QNFo0/video.html
      czcams.com/video/Xk7t9yHCO-I/video.html
      czcams.com/video/7olBqwXF3Ik/video.html
      czcams.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/video.html
      As you work on the arm unit tee up your ball and work on it with a 7 iron. The goal is to get every ball hooking. Once you can do that switch to body to straighten it out. You can do this:
      czcams.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/video.html
      The watch this too:
      czcams.com/video/bLskGy7rulo/video.html
      So start with that. Stay focused and you will get it in no time. Fastest way is doing daily practice swings at home. Once a week is not enough.

    Been watching you since 2011. I’ve been teaching my 7 year old son your method since he was 5. As he develops those habits, I’m imagining how far he is going to be able to hit the ball as he gets stronger in his teens using your methods. I know physics say the bigger muscles will always be strong then the smaller muscles. So, trying to create his foundation based on your methods. In the long run, his body will not deteriorate as fast.

He is playing against other kids a year older. They are in awe. He has already broken par numerous times. Just keep your son doing the movements and drills. It's really about firing the legs and hips and working on the release. Good job.

    I had an in person lesson at a local golf course the other week which was helpful but I’ve since signed up to your body swing course and am getting a lot out of it, and all at the cost over a single lesson. I signed up because of your free CZcams videos. What you shared was simple and worked so it gave me confidence in paying for your course.
    Thanks for all you do Paul! Keep it up!

      Thanks so much. I appreciate it. Glad you found me now instead of 20 years from now with ingrained habits. Thanks for picking up my Body Swing program. This is how simple this is. Learn the grip and set up and do all of 4 positions and you will look like a pro. No one else is going to say that. No where else will it be this easy to create an incredible swing. I say this because I cannot do those positions better than you. So if I am doing it and you are doing it you are doing what I am doing. You have the right fundamentals. The fastest way to get this is to not hit that many balls for a month or two and do daily practice swings preferably in a mirror. Start with the grip setup and follow through. Make the positions perfect. Then work on the coil. Then the hinge. That's it. Once you get the positions start to add more balls. If you are at the range do 3 to 1 practice swings to hitting balls. It's all about the movement. Get the movement, you get the ball. I literally proved this with one student years ago. I gave him 1 10 min lesson per week. He was shooting 95 when we started. He did not hit any balls. 2 months later he shot 75. So stick to the plan. Make the positions perfect and you will get there in no time. Keep me posted.

    Have been on again off again player, never able to consistently have a good swing or not spray the ball. I have a work golf event coming up so went to the range and literally couldn't scrape the ball off the ground and hit more than 100 yards.
    A coworker who's pretty much a golf coach helped me get a decent takeaway, but I still couldn't generate any speed or momentum and was horribly stiff in the arms.
    By chance saw one of your quick videos I think the one with extremely choking down on the club and letting it pivot.
    Did a big bucket and had instant results. I felt like I could actually play. Still have to work it into driver, and have been practicing the loose wrists ear to ear drill.
    Finally someone is addressing/explaining the actual root issue. Thank you!

    Paul, thank you for this lesson. I am 68yo, been trying to consistently break 90 for years and was always exhausted after every round. Last week I committed to a “loose wrist” round, swinging easy. I shot 82 and every shot went straighter and farther than my typical game. Mr. Wilson, after watching countless videos of yours I’ve finally gotten consistent with loose arms and loose wrists. The thing is, I can only do it after doing 1-2 practice swings right by the ball and then hitting the ball on the 3rd continuous swing (helps gives me tempo). Unorthodox, but they say swing your swing and this method uses barely any power and the ball goes flying! Thanks again Mr. Wilson

So once you hit 90 years old you should still be able to get decent power. Just a different way to do it. Look at Freddy. He's still go it.

    As always, I really appreciate your frequent videos as well as the extremely helpful replies you do for your followers! (*‘ω‘ *)
    Recently, I have found out after your tips from "shallowing the plane of attack" to "getting the face square earlier more from the top swing",
    I realize I wasn't twisting especially my lower hips (after watching your video about turning the hips).
    (They were kind of stuck square, which made me come from out-in, causing all variety of slices)
    I was super thrown off how my arms were so delayed after generating torque with my lower legs and hips, which is why I was always reverted back to hitting with arms during practice.
    After practicing some at home, I kind of realized the arms and wrists are "dangling" and feels like they are at the mercy of the lower body especially the snap of the hips.
    (Like your analogy with driver headclub cover!)
    This probably meant that I was always trying to hit with my arms, and perhaps explains why I always "felt" I needed to have the clubhead square more earlier (due to stiff wrists and arms...)
    I hope this realization helped someone in a similar situation as me!
    TL;DR: The lag of your arms and wrists are crazy and felt like it needs time getting used to because it feels your hips and lower body are way farther down the swing stages than you expect them to be! It feels like if I let them dangle (loose wrists and arms) and swing my hips as normal, they naturally follow the pendulum!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 8 měsíci

      Glad you like the tips. I appreciate the support. Glad you got the feeling. It is like your arms are being dragged down by your body. Just turn the off and it will happen every time. It flattens perfectly on plane due to simple physics. Mass swinging around and axis. Turn the axis and mass (club) will always move 90 to the axis 100% of the time. You just have to be able to release the club. You need to watch this one:
      czcams.com/video/bLskGy7rulo/video.html
      Stay focused. You are on track now.

      1. Never practice in bare feet. Can't get to the follow through properly.
      2. Grip is too weak in the left and strong in the right. Follow my grip tip here:
      czcams.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/video.html
      3. Square up your stance. Drop the foot back like that and you are hitting pull/pull hooks.
      3. Don't lift the left heel quite a much.
      4. Need more wrist hinge at the top. Left arm buckling a little too much.
      5. Hitting it with all the weight on your right foot cause you can't get to the left properly without shoes.
      6. Bit of a chicken wing from hitting with arms. Work on this later.
      7. Need to complete the swing. You are chopping it off right now. Follow this:
      czcams.com/video/a8uIUyRF52Y/video.html
      That will give you enough to work on. In not time I could get you looking great. Just stick to the plan.

    Hi Paul, love your tips and have a much better understanding of how the swing works. Have purchased your body swing package and found it very informative.
    One question, are you using your shoulders/ upbody to drive the uncoil process along with your lower body turn or does this area go along for the ride as you uncoil from your legs and hips?

    Hey Paul,
    Love this video! My distance is there, and improving even more is my accuracy🙂
    Not sure if this is over thinking the wrists, but can you do a deeper dive video on uncocking of the wrists to begin the swing and where the pressure of the handle is applied to each hand/fingers of the neutral grip? So the beginning of my swing for instance I almost have a bounce feeling in my fingers to emphasize the heaviness of the club. Actually, it seems to also happen after impact where the arms straighten through to the release. The wrists hinge and as the body rotates to target, my hands raise the club shaft to the top, touching the back of my head to end the backswing. All combined with proper body swing, leads to effortless power.
    I carded another great round by hitting 12 of 14 fairways and 12 of 18 GIR! Another unbelievable round where my playing partners are so impressed with tee balls going down the middle of fairways and right at the flag into greens🙂.
    It’s all about your body swing!!! I just need to keep at it, lots of swings, and make sure I finish my with the knees touching. This has been my one thing I need to do more consistently.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 8 měsíci

      Glad you liked it. Thanks. I have equal pressure in both hands. I do not think about or favor certain fingers over other ones. I see them as a hinging unit. I just explained that in my last tip.
      czcams.com/video/6OpRuvgOLmc/video.html
      I start at 2 out of 10 then naturally tighten to 10 out of 10 as I was just on the best sensors in the world proving that we do that in our swing:
      czcams.com/video/YwniNAXFMd0/video.html
      Sounds like you are on track. Plus, your numbers are proving it. I wouldn't overanalyze it. Just understand what you are doing and the feelings then keep doing it. You start tinkering, or making this complicated etc. you will lose it. Simple. It's a hinge. It hinges and rehinges. Your body coils and uncoils. Keep that in mind and keep what you are doing in simple terms based on that.

    Great video as always. Thank you.
    If you maintain the body connection with the left arm and then rotate the body/shoulders quickly, that causes the club mass to lag behind the loose wrists, so a cast isn't possible. So when the lower body rotates, the shoulders follow almost immediately because those muscles are stretched. I assume that isn't considered "hitting with your arms" since the are now passive, correct? And the faster they unwind the later the lag releases - if the wrists are loose?
    Am I on track with this?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 6 měsíci

      It is a huge part of the swing for sure. Problem is people try to release it and hit perfect shots. This will never work. It takes release and body to hit it straight. So overdo the release. • @paulwilsongolf

      Yeah but they have no clue what they are doing. Like most golfers they always do things as fast as they can instead of doing it as a pace they can handle. For me, I divide the swing in half. Always work on spin first (wrists) Once you get that you are doing half right. At this point you fix the other half. Everyone is trying to get everything all at once which will never work.

    Paul - If your sweet spot for students is a 73 yr old male - then frequent repeating of your tips are needed during your videos - as our brains have taken on wear and tear just like our bodies when we get to our senior years. (72)
    I’m a former teacher and college dean with a masters degree in education.and the technical name for your style of instruction is called the gradual release of responsibility.
    It’s - I Do (Instructor) We Do (Instructor & Students) You Do ( Students) - it’s tough to do via video compared to when you have a student on your lesson tee - thus the need to repeat yourself when you do a video tip. I did purchase your Video Golf School a couple years ago where you filmed the actual 3 day school where you took 12 mid-high handicappers through your entire program and I would give your instruction an A+ if I was evaluating you as a teacher.
    I would recommend your Golf School video to anyone who wants to improve and really see your teaching in action. What you did with many of those people who were mostly high handicappers was remarkable.
    Keep up the good work.

    • @paulwilsongolf

      Well maybe not the sweet spot at 73 I would say 60+ to 76 is the sweet spot. At 72 you are close to that age when they all tell me they have lost 30 yards. You are not going to say this because you've worked on it. You are proof that no matter what your age you can get decent distance for a long time.
      Interesting about my teaching style. I just do it naturally. I just call it say it ... repeat it ... then say it again. It's truly mind boggling how many people bash me for repeating it. They are here looking for golf tips. If it were me I would hanging on every word.
      I also get people bashing me thinking I am talking down to them. I guess I can't actually care about people getting it and stress what is important. I need to have no personality and turn into a monotone robot to please some people. I'm too old to change. I have been doing this too long now to candy coat it for people. This actually acts as a filter weeding out people I don't want to teach anyway. In my mind you are either on board or you're not. If this loses me people cause they think I'm too harsh so be it. Just sick of people not getting it. If people can't handle me they are playing the wrong game.
      Thank you for the kind words about my school video. I still teach this to this day and still get amazing results with those who attend. I just see the swing differently. Simple is key. The shape of the swing is another key. If you look like a hacker you will be one. Need to look like a pro. By simple doing the grip, setup and 4 positions I can transform anyone. Once they look like a pro they get the right fundamentals to hit great shots. Glad you're with me. Thanks again for your thoughts.

    Paul, does the club head release on its own? I still have trouble with my club face not fully squaring up at impact. Also, what is your preferred wrist position at the top? If I try to straighten mine, it seems to keep the ball from going left but it feels like it inhibits the looseness of my wrists. I really need your recommendation on this. Thanks!

      Once you are loose it releases on its own. I am not thinking about releasing it. I am trying to be super loose knowing forces acting on the mass will pull my arms and club out.

    All I want is to have a sexy smooth Freddie couples like swing. After countless hours watching and researching stuff like “slow smooth wrist whip golf swing” I stumbled upon your page. I bought and read your book. Adapted most of your techniques. Today I played 36 holes 85 first round 74 second round. I’m not sore or worn out. Not only have your techniques made me look like a butter smooth golfer I verifiably play like one too. I feel like I’m cheating I play so well. Thanks for everything you’re the best

    I didn't hear you specifically address where in the swing the wrists hinge and rehinge? Is it accurate to say the hinge/rehinge occurs as a result of the club head weight?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 8 měsíci

      I have tons of tips on this. If you know how to fully hinge and rehinge your wrists then they should be doing this on their own. If your wrists are tight you need to work on them. Watch:

    OMG!!! How easy it is to forget this. How does one stop trying to hard?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 8 měsíci

      You stop hitting hard by understanding exactly what you need to do and have the right thoughts to do it. If you are hitting your body is not working. So you need to get your body working so you have another power source to hit the ball. Then turn your arms off cause you don't need them.
      czcams.com/video/GvpFTATb7Q0/video.html
      So start by working on the hinge first. As you do you will feel your arms. You hinge and roll it over from the top.
      Wrists = Spin (Step 1)
      czcams.com/video/p4vASmOzkPg/video.html
      czcams.com/video/M868QsTlGt4/video.html
      czcams.com/video/yHEv7G9Z5-0/video.html
      Once you can do that you have half right. We know what you are going to do before you do it. Then you work on your body to straighten it out:
      Body = Direction (Step 2)
      czcams.com/video/FV8uSZ16Bys/video.html
      czcams.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/video.html
      czcams.com/video/m8FxSZSmKEw/video.html (secret tip)
      The final step it to turn your arms off as you no longer need them. You hit the top and think about firing your body to hit the ball NOT hit with the arms. Work on those things and let me know if you still need help.

    Paul, I'd like to note that my swing speed is much more stable since practicing your tips, then putting them into play. What I found out, in my case, is that the swing speed, using the True Temper Dynamic Gold S 300 in my irons, and the stiffer flexes in all my other steel shafts (woods/hybrids) has felt off in terms of tempo/consistency/dispersion, and throughout the bag the results are the same...loss of control and smoothness. Using just my driver and 3 wood, I switched to graphite shafts and the end results are impressive. I'm 67 and I'm not a 100 mph plus swinger, especially now that your swing techniques are in play. I've gone graphite across the bag, irons/woods/hybrids and it's a total game changer. Graphite is not just for a senior, as was the mindset of a few decades ago, it's for those looking to increase all aspects of ball striking using a more fluid, better power producing swing without coming out of your shoes, or risking inflammation and injury like heavier steel , stiffer flex shafts tend to do. Since most of your subscribers tend to be seniors like myself, I thought I'd share this.

    I'm 64, my irons I am solid with, my driver I am so discombobulated it isn't funny. My head, my hips and my wrists are not talking to each other so I use my 3-iron to tee off with and get about 200+ yards.
    I can see the correct swing in my mind's eye but it does not translate in the real world.
    Psychotherapy is next! 😁

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 8 měsíci

      Discombobulated is term I have used many times in the past teaching my students. This is not good. You need to see the simplicity of the swing. Think of it like this. The wrists hinge and rehinge. The body coils and uncoils. That is it.
      The wrists affect the spin. The body affects direction. Watch me fix this guy in minutes:

      As a young golfer (25M), I can’t express how much Paul’s tips and advice have changed my swing. I couldn’t make consistent contact with the ball let alone muster any distance no matter how hard I tried to swing. In just about 2 months I can now hit my 3 wood ~270yds without feeling like I’m leaving my shoes behind. Thanks for the schooling Paul!🍻
      So we need to get to work. Think in simple terms. Your wrists hinge and rehinge. Your body coils and uncoils. So you work on the hinge first. Do it daily:
      czcams.com/video/jEWe9Gaoqxo/video.html
      czcams.com/video/MTLQWJLRAU0/video.html
      czcams.com/video/gMVs6SZNBIQ/video.html
      Then once you are releasing it and hooking it you switch to body to power it. So you hit the top and fire your lower body:
      This is the most popular trigger:
      czcams.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/video.html
      Watch this too:
      czcams.com/video/7z5eUcSwlSk/video.html
      Now if you are really keen you can literally do only these 2 drills for the next 30 days. If so, you will hit it longer than you can imagine. Do the work you get the results:

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I do everything for a reason:
      1. Longer tips are better for YT.
      2. I am doing this off the top of my head. I think of different things throughout the tip.
      3. People are distracted, people don't hear it, people only remember 17%-25% of what they hear so I repeat it. Ask any teacher how to teach and they will tell you that is how to teach. I have had tons of emails from esteemed teachers complimenting me on how I teach. Say it, repeat it, then say it again.
      4. Have you not seen tips by some of these other guys? My tips are short compared to theirs.
      5. I explain "why" you need to do certain things. Other just tell you what to do with no reason "why."
      I have had others complain about them in the past too. It's like, really, Just skip through it. That's what I do. I would never think of commenting about it and telling someone to shorten it. It just wouldn't enter my mind. If I was paying for it it may be a different story. So that's the explanation. Next time you watch one of my tips keep those things in mind then skip through it if you want. Thanks for subscribing. I appreciate it.
