Quite a change from when my father would apply anhydrous ammonia in corn after it was up. He used an A John Deere with either a two row or four row applicator which had maybe a three hundred gallon anhydrous tank. Of course that was in 1952 or 53.
cool idea to make a combination video and show a little bit the background of the opartion hope you maybe make more video's Like this one . 👍 but love all your work
Farming in Western Kentucky has the advantage in that fields produce two crops in one year with soybeans following wheat. That makes a big difference in the equipment you see in this area.
If I recall it was around 22% that first week when area farms started. While that is higher 95% of corn ground in the region goes into winter wheat. That means the corn needs to come off and the field is limed, fertilized, diskette and ready to seed by October 10. There are lots of steps in a 6 week window so it’s important to get the corn off. The money is made in wheat because it is cut in June and soybeans are planted right after the wheat is cut. This rotation works well but requires corn to start a bit wet.
Our family farms about an hour north of Bowling Green, where this video was shot, but still in western Kentucky, and it's typically too wet and cold to begin this early. In our area, a lot of creeks and drainage ditches flood in the late winter when the rivers in the area rise. It isn't uncommon this time of year for the the back water to still be receding, and you typically have to clean all of the driftwood/trash up left after the flooding before you can spread fertilizer or spray. Double-cropping is also not a given in our area.
I would think the manufacturers could come up with a better design to put the ridiculous mandatory exhaust system behind the cab to help with operators visibility.
and you gotta love the red white n blue flying in the wind man !!! good video !
bonjour. je m' en lasse pas.merci pour tout.pierre france. congratulations.
Great video and quite educational as most times, keep up the good work!
Up here in the plains of alberta we still have over 2 feet of snow! We wont be in the fields until late april at the earliest sadly
Was outstanding in its recent Nebraska tractor test

Very cool history. Do you know what brand of applicator he had?
Happy field work sylvester!
Smooth Tractor pulls that bit of kit with ease.
Super-single truck tires on those wagons? Great to see farming season has begun.
Nice video!! Greets Stefan
finally the year started :D
Fine video !
Happy framing and be safe out there

Thank you for watching. I plan to do some more farming season videos.
We have 1,5 feet of snow on ground in Finland.👍
Awesome Video Someday I’ll have a Quad Trac!!
Thank you for watching. Quadtracs are impressive machines.
Great video
Thank you for watching.
I would like to see some of the farms with their tractors staged and ready to start planting corn. I know Oatts has all of theirs lined up and ready.
Check BTP instagram. I have farms new 9520RX narrowtrack tractors lined up.

That's cool
Red Gigant! 👍
This 787 cid engine really packs hp
Muito legal
+bigtractorpower Another very educational video, as always. Nice work!
now thats sweeeet 420 gal of fuel lol holy moly !!
VERY NICE GOOD JOB POWER TO YOU /C'EST GÉNIAL 😍👏👏👏👏💪👍
Thank yuh for watching.
Anyone else notice the john deere module/monitor/panel?
We drove by the day they were applying anhydrous on the way back from Franklin.
Very cool. Were you on I-65?
Yes we were. They were making the outside pass next to the interstate.
Was there a ground driven pump on the tool bar to pump the anhydrous out of the tanks?
It’s not liquid it’s gas so it just flows naturally under pressure from the tank to the shank.
29 british tons holy cow
Might be a dumb question, but what keeps the nitrogen gas that's injected into the soil from just rising up and blowing away into the atmosphere?
The tool bar seals it in after the shank injects it.
Some of it does, but the vast majority is sealed in by the soil. Once it's in the soil, it's held on by the soil's cation exchange sites, too.
3:40 corn must good to that farmer he can afford a new 620

My go to tractor for FS17 can handle anything you throw at it.
The 620 will get the job done.
would like to have seen how the farmer hooked the ammonia tanks to the disc when he switched tanks. maybe next time?
I have footage of the hook up on a John Deere farm. Stay tuned.
Why wouldn't they plant all their acres in Winter wheat? Do they grow a lot of soybeans in Western KY? Thanks
Many farms in WKY have some corn on corn acres. Winter wheat is a big crop. All wheat acres are double cropped into soybeans.
Wonder what the moisture percentage was on that corn....

That's not a whole lot different than what it is cut at here in east Mississippi. I think 18-20 is the number around here.
only costs like $1200 to fill the fuel tank
Christian Gierach not bad
Christian Gierach Would be twice that in Sweden😂
Is this normal for them to start this early in Kentucky?
Nevermind u answered my question
Yes it’s right on time. Thank you for watching.

Hahaha our units are still in the shed. Alberta winters suck hahaha

loadpin that would be silly, then you're blocking the view of whatever tool you're pulling
we pull double ammonia running gears like that with 1 ton dually pickups with no problems, just have to learn to take your time.
John Deere screen in the cab???
It is used to control the application rate.
bigtractorpower I figured that but why is it a John Deere brand?caseih doesn't make their own?
The farmer may like the program and decided to keep using it.
Under 2 feet of snow Here in Sk. Lol
379insk same thing in alberta! It just keeps coming!
It’s only good enough to spread manure in Ontario
don't you ever do videos in eastern Kentucky seems like the farmers there are not as rich $ as the farmers in western Kentucky thanks stipp farms lll
That anhydrous applicator is obsolete technology. And if you are serious abour reducing compaction you'll get rid of it.
What replaced the anhydrous applicator? This is news to me. All the farms I film at in WKY use Blu Jet or Great Plains tool bars.
Don Thursby How’s That?? The knives are helping fight compaction??!!
I would never invest that much money to feed the poor?. Poor people are problem and your they king.
