      Typically these machines and implements are about 17ft side going down the road. The operator wants to make it as quick as possible because they don’t like being out on the road blocking things up any more than the cars behind them like it. These is allot to watch moving machine this size on the road including power lines, mail boxes, the edge of the road and other motorists.

    Is there a particular reason why this farm uses 3 smaller tyres rather than wider duals or LSW tyres underneath their tractors?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 5 lety

      They have used triples since the 80’s. The triple tire set rides smoother and has far less power hop than metric duals. The tires are less than half the cost of duals. LSW tires are nice but they reduce tire wear in tillage by running the triples between the rows of corn stalks.

    They only took him a good 20 years to put them panels on that is always a bitch to clean out between the tire and engine especially if you are running through wet wheat stubble it gets packed in there than the engine almost bakes it into a brick and there's no easy way to get it out

    Do you mean 185 pounds of material? That doesn’t seem like many acres with a total of 10000 gal of material per wagon. Can explain more in detail.

    • @chunkmen
      @chunkmen Před 5 lety +2

      Anhydrous is in a semi gaseous state in the tank so a 10k gallon tank is really only about 85% of that tank is utilized Otherwise its overly pressurized. Anhydrous is also lighter than water being 5LB per gallon rather then 8Lb per gallon. There is only about 4Lb of actual nitrogen per gallon. But I do agree with you that they should be getting more average per tank, somewhere around 110 acres per tank unless they have high wasteage or are applying 475Lb of actual nitrogen per acre.

    • @leesteele9290
      @leesteele9290 Před 5 lety +2

      The video shows 2 different wagons 1 has 2 1000 gal tanks on it the other has 2 1450 gal tanks . The 1000 gal tanks have approximately 8800 lbs of NH3 (anhydrous ammonia) in them it is 82% nitrogen so you have approximately 7216 lbs of actual nitrogen in each pair divided by 36 acres equals 200 lbs of actual nitrogen per acre. They are one thousand gal tanks but they are only filled to about 86% to allow for expansion so NH3 weighs about 5.2 lbs per gal like he said that is why the 10 thousand figure is out of whack. NH3 is only a liquid when it is under pressure which changes with the outside temp. When you release the pressure as in applying it it becomes a gas that is why you see the puffs when the toolbar comes out of the ground.

    How in the world do these farmers afford to buy $600,000 and up machines like this? Its not just one some have multiple tractors. I could see maybe if you had many thousands of acres to plow and take care of like out west but man. The Welker Farm boys dont even have tractors like this and they rebuild old units. Apparently farming can get you rich? Has to to be able to afford these units.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 5 lety

      Good questions. Farming here in WKY is like farming out west. In the town I live in there are at least 10 farms that range from 10,000 to 40,000 acres. 5,000 to 10,000 acres is a common size farm here. The farm you see in this video has five 620 hp tractors and four 420 hp tractors. What is the finical secret? A warm climate that allows for double crop soybeans. Half of the acres on every farm here is in wheat. That wheat is cut in June and soybeans are drilled right in as a second crop. So if you farm 2,000 acres you get 3,000 acres harvested per year. That is a huge boost and requires big new fast moving machines. A farm like Welkers in Montana has acres but because it’s so dry they can only raise a crop on half the acres each year. So if you are farming dry land wheat in Montana and have 2,000 acres you only harvest 1,000 acres per year. It’s all about climate and location.
      To better understand the farming here in WKY watch this video m.czcams.com/video/0cZsKxEXyXg/video.html
