Faction diversity, as in, a diverse set of factions, not excess diversity within factions, as factions in warhammer are inheriently defined by their consistencies, not their diversity, unless we are talking about the tyrranids so even there, the diversity can be absolute, of course these people cannot cumzoom product if its not boosting their libido....so they do not count nids in their discussions :)

I think they are both. they come to see how the hobby is, doesn't make any effort to understand the local culture and customs that they dislike anyway and they are very vocal about it, like most stupid tourists, then, because they like the place but not the people in it, they stop to pay rent and abuse the squatters protection laws to avoid being evicted, while ravaging the place as retaliation against you for trying to get back what was once yours and like real life squatters, once finally evicted, it's down to you to rebuild everything from the ground up and no one will help you. and you will be seen as a villain still while they will be treated as victims despite the fuming ruins they left behind them.
something like this happened in my country, an old idealist leftist couple that had some sort of help center for people in difficulties had welcomed migrants to help them, everything was OK at first, then, they barricaded the center and destroyed it, they recovered the copper water lines for resell, they used the medical files located in the husband's office (he's a doctor) as toilet paper, between other horrors. and when finally they had the eviction notice with the police to enforce it, there were far left activists to manifest against the eviction, activists that helped creating that situation from the start, as they found in the building pamphlets with guidelines on how to keep squatting and get the necessities to live, stamped with those particular leftist groups. the state of the building was worse than a mid-80's crack den. last time I checked, the landlords were still battling the insurance company to get the money to repair the center, the government denied any help outside the eviction and it's enforcement and they were still viewed as the villains, painted as such by the activist movements.
that horrific event is happening to most of our hobbies, granted, not at the same scale, but still destructive.

Was very disappointed about what they let happen to the historic city, with corporatization of it and running out all locals, basically turning it in a corporate theme park, where you can get food at all your favorite international fastfood and chain restaurants and buy Chinese made junk that are imitations of goods you used to be able to buy there from craftsmen who's family made them for generations.

Or the main antagonist being portrayed as sympathetic and actually right, despite being an absolute psychopath.
Or the Brotherhood of Steel acting like absolute idiots who promote cadets who violate their code on multiple occasions. Looking at you, Finn 2.0 .
Or Ghuls being fast regenerating killer machines that go feral if they don't get a dose of some drug that needs to be mass produced on a scale that would be impossible, since they apparently need one shot a day.

You can also tell a good world, because sometimes the fans (and even official writers) will find a way to justify things that have been stated officially about the world that otherwise wouldn't make sense even in the rhetorical universe of the setting.
Keeping to the Star Wars example, we have the statement that the Millenium Falcon is so fast, it can do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. For a while, this statement caused some confusion; how is a measure of distance a proof of speed without an accompanying time component? Well, the eventual canon explanation was that the Falcon's hyperspace drive was fast enough to shoot the gap between two black holes, saving roughly 8 parsecs of distance versus the traditional hyperspace route, and therefore saving time. (This was made canon even before the Solo movie, so it isn't a Disney thing). It's akin to a muscle car using a ramp to take a shortcut in an action movie, and watching the slower cars fall short.
That is the product of a true fan; coming at the world from within its own framework to explain an anomaly in the storytelling, and doing it well enough that it becomes the accepted explanation. It's not created arbitrarily, requires no retcon of any sort, and even elevates what was really just a throw-away line into a genuinely badass bit of bragging rights.

There's a key difference between pride colored Space Marines, and those McMarines. The pride colored ones are created by people that would love to make those schemes and ideas official canon lore. The McMarines were only ever intended to be a joke, and no one actually want's them anywhere near official canon.
Which is one of the most important distinctions between real fans and fake fans. The real fans know the lore so well they can make dumb jokes and memes about it, while keeping them separate in their minds. The tourists cannot separate ANYTHING. To them, real life, politics, memes, and official lore are all the exact same thing. Which is why they cannot understand why the real fans will laugh at something like the McMarines, while hating their pride Marines.
And, this is why having strong and stable lore is important as well. Because without concrete rules to play within, how can anything exist outside them, either? The concept of McDonalds Marines is funny, because it is so far outside the official lore of Warhammer that its absurd. And all us real fans know that, accept that, and laugh at it. We don't want to actually make McDonalds canon in 40k, or give them their own chapter of Space Marines, because we know that would be stupid. In fact, its funny because its so stupid, so we make jokes about it instead of making it official.
This is also why I have never liked any kind of pop culture crossovers. For one thing, it always feels super lazy to just draw Mario with a lightsaber or whatever. But it also dilutes the integrity of each of the individual universes that you are combining. And, its a slippery slope from simply giving Mario a Lightsaber, to going full Fortnite and ruining everything for everyone.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love theory wars as much as the next nerd. Being able to argue about things like whether or not the Death Star could take on a Blackstone Fortress is an ancient rite of passage for true fans. As long as you accept that the two shall not, and should not, ever actually meet.

I like to break it down into two groups: consumers and enthusiasts.
The enthusiast has knowledge, passion, and sincere care for the hobby/franchise/art in question and because of such knowledge has a higher standard of quality compared to the average person. He deeply cares about the subject and wants to so it reach its fullest potential. They want more people to be involved, but only if they will have the same level of care for the art that they do. They tend to be the most critical because, like a master chef, they have a refined palet and will be able to tell when something is sub par and will not be afraid to be honest about it.
The consumer, on the other hand, does not have the same level of passion, knowledge, or care as the enthusiast. He may only be interested because it is either trendy or because it a place where he may use it for his self interest. He lacks the same level of knowledge, passion, and care that the enthusiast has, if he has any at all. Because he lacks those things he is unable to be truly critical of the art and may not even care about seeing the art reach its fullest potential. He just consumes product unthinkingly until he grows bored and moves onto the next shiny thing that catches his attention.
Corporations love the consumer because, unlike the enthusiast who may be critical and will not spend money on something he knows to be low quality, the consumer either doesn't care or lacks the abikity to discern what good quality is. He will take whatever he is given and all the corporation has to do is make sure they keep his attention with enough shiny things to keep him coming back.
What we are seeing now is that consumers are being cater too more than the enthusiasts. And all art is suffering because of it.

Mindless consumers are another source of tourism that must be gatekept. Remember, your hobby is for anyone, not everyone. And consumers are everyone; millions of known sales recorded fueling the corpos in the video game industry for example. They are counter-productive to an effective resistance especially with their favorite weapon - toxic positivity - but luckily, they are financing the next crash for us.

I'm into my hobbies because they're fun. I have never picked up a 40k mini, but I drive 12 hours a day for work. So I've consumed probably over 10,000 hours of 40k lore via audiobooks, youtube documentaries, and lore exploration videos like Arch does while working. No idea how to play tabletop, but I know a fucking ton about this setting. So when the political tourists show up, and all of a sudden Custodes have women, that throws up a ton of red flags and ruins the continuity. I don't give a fuck about the politics of the writers, or other fans. I give a fuck about the continuity of the stories I'm listening to.

Another important point in distinguishing Fans from Tourists; is that fans can and do have rifts within their universe [Kirk v Picard Atlantis V SG1]. These rifts are inherently non political.
The Tourist will use these rifts to “justify their existence.” IE they will use the argument of “Its a big universe with lots of factions, so why can’t I have mine.” On its face their argument is logical and seemingly non-partisan.
In reality their argument is “Your politics are represented, so why not mine.” This is why politics must stay out of hobbies and why gate keeping is an inherent requirement for maintaining the congruence of any universe.

how can someone call themselves a "fan" of something they don't even like, something they think it needs to be "fixed"? you either like it or don't like it. plain simple. and if they don't like, then they're not fans.

To defend the Star Wars argument, specifically the true EU canon that Disney shat on, Arch... Star Wars already has something like Daemons and a Chaos Goddess. The place where Sith souls go is literally called Chaos. The Force in Star Wars is like a placid Warp, pre-War in Heaven Sea of Souls parallel.

At least those admitting to something being a fetish are honest about it. I had an online friend for a few years when he said to me that he was wanting to go on hormone replacement and eventually get breast implants. I asked him why, fearing that he was hopping on the trend and didn't fully understand the potential risks involved. He had never struck me as the progressive type, nor did he seem to buy in to the whole 'diversity' scam. He came right out and told me he wanted to because it was his fetish. He was 19 at the time, so I didn't have an issue with him making the choice himself. I did inform him of the risks, and he admitted that he hadn't been told that there were such risks with hormone replacement by anyone else. Last I spoke with him (been a few months now), he's getting on fine and is paying close attention to his health.
But too many tourists think there is nothing but benefit from what they are trying to do, either they are to naive to realize the cost of what they are doing, too delusional from the propaganda they've consumed, or outright malicious in their intent.
