Catalyst can eat crap. I have zero interest in their current story line, I have hundreds of older mech minis, the old source books, a decent amount of the new plastics, and finally , a mate who can 3D print me whatever I want in the future. Game , Set, Match.
I recently ordered a new box spring for my bed online. I did not realize that it would arrive unassembled in a flat pack. It's currently leaned up against the wall in the corner because every time I look at it I get this heavy dragging sensation in my mind, that feeling of "I just don't want to deal with this right now."

Nobody likes the new lore, because it's so obnoxiously politically charged it's hard to not notice it. When you have a troon colored mech with a troon flag on it, piloted by a they/them who's out to fight the patriarchy...when does the fiction start and the politics end? I hate SFO's insistence on "everything is political" precisely for this reason. It kills art, it's designed to kill free expression, and that's exactly what's been happening the last decade.
How can you truly make beautiful or thought provoking art when you can only view everything you produce in a political lens?
It is more like, your views and beliefs create your politics. So, when you create art, it is an expression of your views and beliefs. Which is your politics. So, if the art is bad or terrible because of your views embodied in it, it is because your politics are bad. And you can't create good art with bad politics.

I legit almost always agree with the Dev-man, since I can at the *very least* always see the logic behind his arguments, even if I would prefer different solutions. But that is definitely not the case here. All you do when you agree to look at something through their framework is allow them to set you up for failure.
"Everything is political" serves two purposes:

> Two, it allows them to assert that the reason you would *ever* deny something being political is because you're trying to push your own politics.
With a singular, three word sentence they poison the well and then attack by holding a bucket of death-touched water up to your mouth. You don't fight that buy opening up your trap to rebut them: you smack the bucket away, punch them in the face and then go American History X on them until they stop twitching.
I don't see anything wrong with Sargon becoming a Khornate Berserker. I remember Sargon's paladin and monk in Vee's campaign, and he played both pretty much as violent and ruthless berserkers. He really seems to enjoy playing those in fiction.
If i didn't know this was made out of spite, i would think that someone did Sargon a favor. So if Arch will also become a WH40k character, i hope he'll also get something that is unintentionally fitting him. Something along the lines of a space skaven.

Both arch and razor did adress this point in the discussion by mentioning It is okay to discuss politics in the given setting as it is relevant to the setting but it is malicious when someone tried to enforce real world politics into the setting.

Yeah, everyone on this video is missing the point. The essential point to make is that people make things and people maintain things, and if the people in charge insist on putting their politics in everything, then their politics will be in everything, and if you don't want that, it is absolutely essential that other people are in charge. No book or written constitution has the power to resist or combat anything - it's people that make the difference.
If expressing a worldview is a political act, then everything is political. But 'politics' is essentially ideological battle, and not everything has to be a battle.
Sargon had a good take on this . When they throw the "everything is political" line at ya say " YES and we LIKE it this way so much it's called "normal" , keep you weirdo takes to yourself " .
Too many don't push back to protect what they love
The biggest issue with the debate on 'politics in games' is that it needs to be broken down. There are really 3 different things that people talk about under the label, and they're all very different.
Politics is applied. It's political parties, slogans, campaigns, and goals. It's lazily pasting Orange Man in as the BBG, adding overt messages telling the player they're evil wrongthinkers for questioning a chosen narrative in any way, creating quests or entire games around specific contentious debates. It's defined more by its direct applicability to the national/international political debate than by the underlying ideas. It's almost always exclusionary because politics is defined by an in-group and out-group, and anything that goes against the chosen sloganeering must be rejected.
Philosophy is trensendent. It's politics without the baggage of reality. It's Andrew Ryan's flooding utopia, Spec Ops: The Line's depressing anti-war narrative, Metal Gear's insane war economy. Games defined by the ideas they examine within a world created to remove those ideas from the messiness of reality. Philosophy doesn't require an out-group because it is capable of standing outside real world politics to depict the logical outcome of belief structures. From the multiple options open to players in New Vegas to the constrained yet complex book of laws in Frostpunk.
Ideology is a pure lens without comment. Adding a trade system to Rimworld, slavery to Palworld, or any game that has non-PVP servers. All the things that the in-game universe has that the game itself doesn't question or anknowledge as anything but default. Games work by their own internal logic that players accept until their suspension of disbelief is broken. Games can get away with showing worlds that haven't invented currency, worlds that propogate brutal oppressions without resistance, and worlds that mechanically could not exist if its inhabitants were blessesd with actual intelligence. As long as this isn't commented on, it's easy to accept a serf diligently working 24/7 in Settlers or a cop simply de-aggroing consequence-free after a fifteen minute mass casualty shootout in Saints Row.

It's nice to hear someone differentiate between the types of politics in media. People always seem to mistake out-world (real world) and in-world (fake) politics with one another and get caught up in pointless arguments.
Exellently put, it's also worth mentioning that the vernacular definition of politics for generations arguably including now is specifically about the partisan hot button issues hence the expression "Friends who want to remain friends don't discuss religion and politics." because they're two of if not the two most inflammatory and divisive topics not the frankly overbroad definition that is basically all encompassing definition that is used to push the "everything is political" essentially only the first version you put is what laymen mean when they say political and the more broad definitions are used as a motte and bailey to blur the line between all the different meanings of the word and obfuscate the difference between art and propaganda.

I genuinely don't get what Dev is saying when he says "everything is political." Actually, scratch that. I understand what he's saying, but I vehemently disagree with the logic and intent behind the statement. What is political about writing a poem, story or song about not wanting to die? Or the suffering of starvation? What's political about the human condition and what it means to know hope and joy, along with despair and sorrow? Not everything is political because many things are universal. Not just to humanity, but to life in general.
Parroting their phrases in order to beat them at their own game is not necessary when you can just tell them to shut up, that you understand what they're trying to do and that you not only disagree, but that you reject their framing of the issue. This is simple enough to do, Dev, without ceding ground to them on their inherently warped and hostile foundational view of reality. You're talking about beating them at their own game, whereas I and many others would agree that the only way to shut them down is to call them on their bullsh!t and call it a day.
You can't defeat these people by levelling with them and trying to beat them at an argument. They will never cede a point, never admit they've lost or look stupid. Nothing you do or say when you engage with them in this way will stick or affect any real change. You're effectively trying to engage in melee with a rabid honey badger, and all you're gonna get for your trouble is a free transition as they wrangle themselves out of your grasp and go for your balls.
It's not too far from the truth - in that anything with a story is painted by culture and politics. But to mistake 'being painted by politics' as 'being political' is so room-temp IQ thinking they're brilliant it's not even funny. And to try to spin the political inspiration visible in games without a story, like Pacman, is just pure self-humiliation. He'd be right if he stopped at 'politics influence everything', but he doesn't understand that there is a distinction, and thinks it's just a nicer way of saying the same thing.
Everything that you write is apart of your experiences through your culture and culture is political
politics is when two people exist. Everything is political in that human beings are political animals. Every thing written has an intent, and audience, a motive. As soon as something exist and two goons argue about it enters that realm.
When good folk say, " I don't want things to be political" what they mean is that they don't want an agenda to political agenda to be center piece. I don't want your obtuse special interest agenda to invade my fucking hobby and take center stage at the cost of destroying the things i enjoy.
look at dune for instance, it's obviously political in the sense it has a clear message, it uses arab inspired fremen and spice as a stand in for oil, clearly is has a political motivated message but the characters aren't a stand in for putin or bush, it has a message but it doesn't put the chart before the horse and attack anyone who questions the validity of resting on the moral arc of the universe to carry the day. the characters and the setting are fully realized unto themselves and are just a hack jawed stand in for the author to pigeon hole thinly veiled and poorly telegraphed takes, there's an enjoyable story conveyed and the ideas are carried by it.
Another instance, lets take star trek before it was dog trash. In the original series, it was political to have a blackwomen as the equal to a white man on the bridge, but the show was a vehicle to tell stories, and these stories were entertaining first and foremost while also carrying roddenberry message of a hopeful future.

I play BattleTech since I was a kid decades ago. I now play it with my young son. I only really like the earliest setting of 3025, aka the 3rd Succession War. Even the Clans don't really interest me. Just give me mechs and a hex map. I don't need the bloat.
I still really like the clans myself, be it for only one reason: they manage both to still be human, while at the same time affecting the setting like an alien invasion would, with even their society being alien by our standards.
That, and gameplay-wise... I heard they were bad before, but nowadays as a newbish player I really have a hard time winning with them against the sphere XD when a timberwolf with a clan pilot is almost the same cost as two annihilators...
FedCom civil war is pretty alright because it's essentially just a "5th succession war" vibe given off. It just doesn't really have anything to offer to people who either love or hate Kurita as they're spending all of it recovering from "Cat scratches"

I crafted a theory years ago that modern entertainment has three layers, the first layer being the colorful candy coating of the entertainment value, 2nd layer being the geo-social and political messaging, and finally the occult subversive programming.

And sad because there was a good reason they were more effective than other clans during the invasion era (being the one clan that didnt neglect their logistics and not pissing off the populations of the worlds they conquered, same for their tukkayid win, its because they both dropped in dead last against an already tired opposition on purpose and because comstar went easy on them, seeing they were against the invasion, just forced to partake in it). I always like to say that clan wolf is what happens when clanners use their brain instead of their inadequate honor code and dont overestimate themselves.

- Sarkon, that horrible racist, was infuriated when several of the invited Drukhari kidnapped a bunch of children and turned them into meat-lamps and meat-sofas, as is only their nature, and declares his intention to stop this.
- Opposing an inquisitor gets him branded a heretic and traitor so this conflict immediately devolves into a civil war.
- Sarkon steals some of a new line of female space marine armor and has it modified so it fits and works for him. Also, a pair of chain axes.
- Sarkon eventually discovers that Kime Braks is actually in the thrall of one Jorj Soarus, a Tau Ethereal that has learned to influence the minds of humans as well as Tau.

The big problem stopping 3d printers being in every house isn't the technical side of it but it's the fact the resin is toxic so you need a well ventilated space to use it. A lot of home printing hobbyists will probably be getting lung cancer 10 years down the road imho. That said indie and 'aa' miniature companies having printer farms for production is cutting down on costs whilst delivering higher quality products than traditional metal, resin and newer pvc/siocast moulding, especially with new flexible resin formulas designed for tabletop play.
How often do you think they print? Things smell much worse when I use paint. My printer has a filter and a hole where it vents that I can vent to outside. You clearly don't know what you are talking about and a pretty vile person gor basically wishing cancer on people that probably aren't going to get cancer.

Arch, VtM has always had shit combat, its never been the focus of VtM so focusing heavily so on it is an awful idea. It can be done, but it takes a lot of effort.
Would love to see an actual play with Arch and Razor. V20 is best VtM.

To be fair to Battletech.
The earlier Clan invasions were by individual Clans that relied on speed and their superior mechs to push them forward. Once they got bogged down or outran their supply chains they hit a fall pretty fast.
The exceptiion of course being Mary Sue Wolves. Hell, the main reason the Clans lost at Tukayiid was because of their fighting style of using a few as possible vs the Inner Sphere style of throw everything at it and Comstar used that against them.
The IlClan era is where the Clans basically throw aside their idea of honor to the point where the Wolf leader refuses a batchall and the Wolves and Falcons work together.
It's still fanfictiony, but the story did have potential...if it wasn't mostly just another Clan Wolf fanwank.
Thing is in the end they just threw the board back to zero AGAIN. Oh sure now it is the Wolf Empire and not Comstar or the Republic but the balance of power is once again back to zero. Pretty much after Fedcom fell I checked out of the lore. Because rather then a lore of political intrigue, espionage and conflict as everyone tries to grapple with the 800 pound bear in the room they just reset the board once their then current storyline ended.
I think in the end the constant resets of the board are what has people checking out of IlClan more then anything. As at this point we know any major world changes beyond adding different paint schemes will be erased within 4 or 5 years for all intents and purposes.
TLDR less the Wolves and more the writers not allowing stakes to exist in the overarching lore.

Nothing even in Verhoeven's movie was fascist. It was, in the libertarian regard, close enough to the book in all aspects. With one difference: The book gave no explanation as to how the war with the bugs started. Verhoeven could have written anything there. What he decided on was a bunch of religious cultists operating against the advice(!) of the government in territory outside safety boundaries, that was declared as unsafe. The bugs saw this as encroachment, an act of war, as to their hivemindedness we must function the same - thus all humans are guilty in their eyes. The bugs did not seek communication, the humans did - in the book as is in the movie.
In the book the bugs also studied humans, but that is another matter and inconsequential. In the movie, the bugs did not.
