There are two types of gatekeeping one is good for a community, the other bad.
The bad kind of gatekeeping is preventing new people who have a genuine interest to learn and join from the community, this is frankly very rare.
The good kind is preventing people who have an ulterior motive or are hubristic in wanting to change something they have no right to change because they think they know better.

The subverters are pretty easy to spot, usually they have only been in the community for a few days to a week and are already telling people who have been in the community for years that they are doing things wrong or demanding change to suit them.
A good example would be people demanding a game be dumbed down ect. I've seen a few new Arma players that were like that, they joined a milsim group and immediately demanded things be made easier, IE access to more powerful vehicles, no stamina and dumbed down AI.

Like I said in the original video's comment section, Cap's new design could, with minor alterations, work great in a turn-of-the-century (1900) setting.
The premise of fighting against inequality could work great in both of those setting - for the latter in particular, I draw associations to the Virginia Coal Wars, Red Summer of 1919 and the burning of Black Wall Street, to name a few. What all the poor people getting stomped on by inequality could have acheived with Captain America by their side...
The title of "Cap Am of the Railways" gave me another idea. Like a proto-Cap, hoboing around the U.S. on freight trains and helping people in need wherever he finds them. Now that's interesting, new, unique! Never seen a cross country boxcar-ridin' superhobo before!

nothing wrong there. Its how fandoms last so long.
Fandoms that bow to the times, lose what makes them special and wither away.
its why, for example, pokemon games have remained largely unchanged since the first. sure they have spin offs, and they try new things even in main games. but they keep the core game the same.

The Hasbro takeover (I would just call this an early phase of a hostile takeover; we'll see if that holds true) of GW essentially just serves to liquify the company and then buy out its licenses, leaving everyone who ever had a vested interest or in the process of developing warhammer within GW stranded.
However, by then the franchise will be irrecoverably dead and of no use to whoever buys it. The difference between locust capitalism and socialist culture war ideologues is merely the path and reason which they have to take over something; the end result is charred earth in both cases - in the case of the cultural vandal, it is the desired outcome, in the case of the locust capitalist, it is incompetence and an obsession for a quick buck with no longterm thought.

Lower Decks doesn't deserve to be in the same lineup as Disney Star Wars. The first episode is shit because they had to hand something to the Paramount execs that would tick the boxes and get them approved. It gets much better as things go on and they're allowed to stray from the "Rick & Morty: Star Trek Edition" setup that it started as.

I disagree on the casual fan part.
There are two types of casual fans.
Those that like the setting, the world, and characters, but won't spend money on it like others
The other might like "a" character, or the setting, but wants everything else to change.

Here is my take , It depends on the context ,
Scenario 1: If you are keeping someone out who would be a poor fit for the group you already have , then you absolutely have every right to run your private table as you see fit.
Scenario 2: You are looking for someone to play 40k with at your friendly local games store and some random who is polite enough wants to play a game with you, but they have blue hair and are dressed like a sideshow performer , then you should be polite and give them a game since you are in a public venue and they are not breaking any rules.
Scenario 3: You are playing an MMO and your friends and you decide to make a friends only' guild , you are under no obligation to invite a random who wants to join into the guild , it is a private guild.
Scenario 4: You are the president of a university D&D club and your club is officially endorsed and funded by the student association and given perks such as the use of tutorial rooms to play D&D in , in the evenings, but in return for all these perks you had to sign an inclusiveness agreement and agree to not turn away other students who want to join your club without a VERY good reason . And an older guy who is a student wants to play , he has been playing for years and he knows his stuff , but he is on the autistic spectrum and lacks social graces , but he is not breaking any rules and he is doing his best to fit in. BUT some members of the blue haired problem glasses squad decide he is too creepy for some obviously BS reason (with zero evidence) and want him banned. Then your club has no right to ban a person who has broken no rules (and you are probably obliged by the agreement to be extra welcoming towards them and tell the blue haired ones to back off).
    Context is key.
But the short version is you can gatekeep all you like if it is a private group , but public groups have different rules and you can only gatekeeping is almost always frowned upon.

Star Wars was ruined and probably isn't coming back from the dead any time soon.
Gatekeeping is the reasonable protection of the franchise/universe you love and in the current climate the only thing you can do.
Gatekeeping is also misunderstood. It isn't don't let more people in but it means don't let them change it

"Could a woman be a spacemarine since a woman can be a real marine"
The response was a resounding.... No, that would utterly contradict the lore around SpaceMarines. There's no female spacemarines they're all men.
To which the usual chariot chasers and salad tossers of the interwebs inclusions Mafia went to town.
And literally everyone gave them the finger.
Gatekeep things you love from those who clearly aim to molest it and mutate it into something shameful.
Go make your own gay badass military units in your own inclusive and lame boring nobody gives a fuck alternate reality.
Yes I'm sure we're all just chomping at the bit for the adventures and hijinks of the Grimrainbow universe where the drama is not enough Star bucks and pocket rocket batteries for their strapon sabers of social justice.

Gatekeeping being good or bad entirely depends on how you define the term and the nature of the gatekeeping being done. I see gatekeeping as pure evil becuase I don't see preventing people who have no understanding of a hobby or would only harm it from changing it to suit themselves as Gatekeeping, only as basic reason.
It's not gatekeeping to insist Fromsoft Souls games remain difficult and don't get special "Easy" modes. an example of gatekeeping is a community being toxic bullies to legit fans who want to participate in an activity, and could be just as good as any of them, but being kept away out of toxic elitism. This happens a lot in MMO raiding. that is the bad gatekeeping.

Say Capt is a distant memory, with the world gone to shit. This kid could decide to try to become the next Captain America, traveling the old railways to fight for the American Ideals. Shame that isn't what's happening

1%er bikers have been better people then most of the inclusive elements of nerdom and metal.
