Small improvement to the V4 sorter to help reduce lag.

It's been pointed out to me that I said "block light updates" when it's really just block updates. Redstone dust doesn't emit light, but rather causes block updates in a 2 block radius. This is what causes lag.
Well I guess I'm rebuilding the multi-sorter for the third time... Here goes another three days of life haha. Loving the updates, wonder what you guys will be able to do with skulk sensors when 1.17 comes up.

Thanks for the update Rapscallion! I noticed your design being used by a few big leagues, the most recent being ilmango adding it to his peaceful challenge series! That alone speaks for itself for what a state of the art this sorter is. Keep it up!
Agreed this sorter is incredible. I wish it'd been a thing when I'd made my multi item sorter. I'm using the design by gnembon but it's one where you gotta fill all the chests with items, and some items still make it through to the overflow for unknown reasons. Definitely using this version on the next SMP I start out on heh.
@@nZifnab I've seen that a lot of times but I find that very ugly. This one is insane (and pretty compact)

Hey guys, Make sure your 'filter' items and 'blocker' items have different names!!! Otherwise your first slice steals all the items!

Unless I'm missing something, I think that the item defragmenter is not "spam proof". If you have a stream of items that do not come in at 8 gt intervals (i.e., mostly 8 gts but some delays are > 8 gts; for example, this can happen if the buffer chest is fed by a water stream), the timing can break (probably the timing of the observer clock vs. the comparator reading from the variable sorter but I didn't debug this any further).

Hey Rap! Love these videos, Its inspired me to try and make a model of my own! I set out on my adventure a few months ago. I came up with a design that is 4x2x5 and would love to show you but don't know how. Although it isn't nearly as advanced as yours. It still does the main purpose of sorting multiple items.

If somebody builds this and it doesn't work, try these:
Make sure the comparator under the purple concrete block is correct (should be on subtract, I found that I also just forgot to place it a few times)
If you have alternating items (for example, 1 nether brick, then 1 wool, then 1 nether brick), and you don't have a defragmenter, it won't sort properly. So build a defragmenter!
Make sure you don't forget the piece of redstone under the observer, beside the chest.

The main lag couser is the hoppers! a system that would lock all the hoppers that are ander the chests while it is not in use u would remove like 0.8 mspt per hopper

All but a few of the redstone dust is giving off one extra signal strength than required. also cant seem to power the first circuit after the dropper elevator. used the world download and took a schematic too :(

Hey, I'm having a problem similar to some problems mentioned before: Server is a Realm in 1.16.5 (the problem also occured in 1.16.4) usually the sorter works, sometimes however it just starts dumping every item into the same row of chests, usually when i use many different items (definetly less than the entire input chest). Sometimes it also dumps all items into multiple rows of chests (2-3 from what I've observed), then some rows will contain a lot of random wrong items (imagine a a bunch of feathers, spider eyes and cooked steak all dumped into row 2, 5 and 7 as an example). No idea what causes it.

I made a wonky multi item sorter. It can run at hopper speed but items can only be fed at a max of 7 at a time because of torch burnout.
My server runs on 1.12. Is there a way to adapt it to pre-1.16 redstone?

Hello, how do you do if the hopper is setup to send items 8 by 8 ? The sort doesn't work as expected :(
I've built this, but it doesn't work. Are there some steps I should take to troubleshoot? (I've built it on a realm, if that would pose a problem)
I am in a dilema on which multi item sorter to build for my base, this one or the one from maxiuma games? I wanted to ask which one is better this one or that one. If you say depends then can you tell me the pros and cons on this one? Please it will help a lot
this one is at speed of O(1), while Maisuma's is O(n) iirc
I have build the System, it has a few things you can miss easy, like the one Redstone in the Dispenser with the Main Chest System where the items get in on the top, then you need Blockers for the Chests, you need 2 Different Filter Items otherwise the Items just rush through to the first Chests, under the Main Chest on top theres a Hopper and in there has to be a Different Filter item, also Rename it Obviously.
In the Barrels there are different amount of wooden swords.
Each slice needs to have the Barrel on the the right Side If you Look at the front (the one thats hanging alone in the air) you have to Connect the Barrel with Redstone later when you build the next slice.
Some Comparator need to be right clicked so that the one blip Lights up.
Download the World and Look at it very very closely.
I myself installed a Resource pack that Shows the Numbers on Redstone and the direction where Dispenser and what not go, without that it will be pretty hard to notice a mistake, and if you build everything perfect and the Number isnt right, its because the Filter item isnt in the Hopper under the Filter Chest.
If it Just doesnt work you forgot to add something and it wasnt as perfect as you thought, it happens, happened to me 4 or 5 times, its a learning process, it needs to be build Exactly Like that, there cant be one mistake.
For me it does work on 1.16.4 and i hope it stays that way, it works wonderful, its Perfect thank you!

I built this version in my world but it removes items from filter chest, sometimes just one sometimes both. Cant confirm it fully, but its happening in slice A mostly
probably the observers for the droppers something is wrong really look close at it cause its hard to tell and maybe try re putting in the observers that fixed it for me1

@12:10 if you replace the redstone dust between de comparators with a powered rail would that reduce on lag? ( i know ilmango uses a lot of powered rails instead of redstone dust where he can)
the redstone dust is to lock the hoppers, using subtract mode to not have that much lag.
with how it's designed, the dust is much less laggy.
not only ilmango uses powered/activator rails to reduce lag, but many others as well (Ilmango isn't special)
There's a comparator pointing into a barrel that seems to have no use at all. It's not connected to any other comparators or anything like that, could you explain why that is for?
Honestly this is basically magic at this point so I guess its just for style.

use litematica, the world download, and build it slice by slice, you should be fine (other schematic mods may be useful too)
Is there any easy way to recombine an item and it's shulker at the end of the line if it doesn't match a filter? I have been playing around with a couple of ways but I think I am way over complicating it. I need to make a 90 degree corner and possibly empty the the box if it didn't match any of the filters. Thanks
not easily, no. you'd have to determine which items came from the shulker vs. which didn't, and that's the most difficult part.
Hello! for some reason when i put several items to sort, the first item type sorts correctly, but all the other ones just go to the chest of the first item :/... all my filter and blocker items seem fine, so i really dont know whats wrong :(

I guess I messed up somewhere.. The items that should be filtered get the first extracted and everything even the items that should not be filtered end up in the bottom

I want to build this in a oneblock world, Redstone is very very hard to come by. Which one is the redstone cheapest? (all other components aren't a problem to get)

for some reason items keep going into the wrong sorters and when i use litematica and the world download as a template it says nothing is wrong and everything is built correctly..... cant figure out what the issue is at all (1.16.5)

Wierd issue came up where my items are sorting correctly and the filters are not being thrown around the system however the bottom hoppers clog and do not fill the rows of chest
Another fix could be dumping sea lanterns in every empty space around the modules. That way light updates won’t happen... right?
I misspoke. It's not light updates but block updates from redstone dust that are the problem.
