- Ukraine destroyed a radar system belonging to a Russian S-400 air defence complex, worth hundreds of millions of dollars using HIMARS. Kyiv’s men unleashed a barrage of 16 GMLRS rockets from their US-made HIMARS immediately after hearing more were on the way because the House had passed a fresh aid package. And they were able to destroy a valuable radar complex linked to Russia’s most-advanced air defence system. Drone footage shows the rockets striking the radar, at an undisclosed location somewhere on the frontlines. An entire S-400 battery - including both radar, launchers and rockets - costs around $800million. It is the most advanced anti-air system Russia produces, which the Kremlin claims is impenetrable. Ukraine has managed to destroy or damage three such systems in recent weeks, with the help of long-range weaponry. #russia #ukraine #war

So they need air defense for their air defense.....
Actually, that's exactly how that works for strategic air defense complexes such as s-400. Russians are just really bad at it, and HIMARS missiles are too small and too fast of a target for inner-layer air defenses that are supposed to protect the S-400.

@@colin1235421 The Electronic Countermeasures division (Ukraine have them) can determine this since the decoys "usually" don't have complex internals characteristics of transmission or command links etc etc. There are ways to confirm this since visually is very difficult. There are other resources available to them provided by NATO that add to the mix etc. This is general information available.

I doubt that's a HIMARS launch, due to the number of rockets it's MLRS. Ukraine wouldn't pack that many high value HIMARS trucks in a single site.

It is HIMARS,with GMLRS rockets.
HIMARS is an MLRS system...
And there would be 3 HIMARs trucks (which can shoot and move before receiving counter-battery fire) or 2 M270 tracked MLRS systems (also capable of the same).

Look up an S400 radar array. You can see the similarity. It doesn't look anything like a HIMARs, since a HIMARS would never point its rocket tubes in that direction (completely nonsensical to do so).
