Tamiya Grasshopper 2 Black Edition Shock Oil Change & Adding Yeah Racing Tornado Fan to TBLE-04S

  • In this video I change the shock oil in the rear shocks on the Tamiya Grasshopper II Black Edition as the standard "Soft" Tamiya oil seems still too stiff. I also add a Yeah Racing Tornado fan to the Tamiya TBLE-04S to aid in cooling as I'm running the Tamiya Super Stock RZ motor. Enjoy!
    Thanks for watching.

    Hi Mick! Good tip with the 1-screw fan. Looks fine yes. Uhh, and yes, blame it on the faulty Hopper-rear-suspension. I always do ☺️ (re-watching)

    I drilled the holes bigger in the plastic washer inside the shock and added 2 more holes . I also like to run very little oil in the shocks. Like 1/4 full.

      The shocks themselves feel ok, but don't work well on the car. Although, being a swinging axle, I think it will be much better when it's moving forward.
      Ooh a Shadow, nice! Not many of those around any more. Haha, hopefully my videos don't put you to sleep when you're doing the resto! 😁👍

    Missed out on this. Good job with the video. And yeah, it is what it is. I think if you put water or nothing in those shocks it would still be too hard 😂 Especially at throttle, it just pulls the whole gear box the wrong way. Anyways, thanks for the tip with the yeah racing fan. Good and easy and affordable solution compared to the over-prized Tamiya fans. Thumbs up, Mick. Good to revisit the channel. Watched a couple of videos now. Not much time with the small kids for the hobby.

      Hi Mikael! I know you're a very busy man with your channels and family but I'm glad you found my video. Haha yeah, the only real way to fix this suspension is to run another car, but they are fun bouncing everywhere. No probs mate, those little fans move a lot of air. I agree, the Tamiya fans are quite expensive in comparison and they're not always easy to find. Glad you enjoyed the video video mate and thanks for the visit! Cheers mate! 👍

    That fan has some power , ive thought about getting a hopper but just been building the wifes plasma edge 2 and liked it so much i had to get one as well.
    Put the yeah racing upgrades in it but it looks like the stock Tt02 b is strong enough. Just don't like the plastic centre drive shaft, replaced all of them on every tt02 . Rest of it looks tough enough. Looks great with all the alloy but I don't think it needs it. Have a good one mate.

      Those little Yeah Racing fan do move a lot of air for their size, but they are kinda loud. Hoppers are fun but the Plazma Edge was a better decision for sure!
      The TT-02's are great and you're right they don't really need much. I have a full alloy set for mine and the TT-01 but it's really just for looks. Cheers mate! 👍

    Mick, if you still think it's too tight.... because it IS, I've come up with a cheap fix!
    Replace the rear Springs with the lightest set from the Axial SCX-10. 👌😉
    It made a ton of difference in my Hoppers and Hornets!! The Rear just has TOO much unsprung weight, for any kind stiff Springs. I've actually CURED the infamous rear Hop, doing this Mod!

      @@CarminesRCTipsandTricks Will be interesting. I've never bothered too much with them because of the amount of unsprung weight. I've found it's usually the gearbox doing all the bouncing, not the so much chassis. The original Grasshopper and Hornet both have quite light springs and are the same. I really think it's a case of it is what it is but will still be interesting. 👍

    Iol....Brilliant! nail on the head Mick!! Its a Grasshopper what can we expect! very true! Even when people modified the cheese out of these they still hope and bounce!😉👍
    10/10 for fun though!!
    One thing l did too was to put a little spacer in the shock cylinder to lower it a bit and it keeps the motor off the spring a little! But end of the day just drive and smile 😁

      The spacer sounds like a good idea! I was thinking of putting standard Grasshopper springs on the rear, might look funny but shouldn't touch the motor. That's what's so good about Grasshoppers, no need to think about it so much, just have fun! 👍

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  Před 2 lety

      G'day! No mate I've not tried one of them, I think they would work well though. For me, I don't really need it as I tend to run in a wide open space where I'm usually at full throttle most of the time. So off the line axle rotation isn't really an issue for me. 👍

  • @PeteWylieRC
    @PeteWylieRC Před 2 lety +2

    Nice demo Mick. Is it possible to change the gearbox pivot so that the motor doesn't rub on the springs? You can set the Lunchbox up so that the motor doesn't touch the springs and that is similar. Like you say you can't really make the handling that good on one of those, it's going to hop anyway. Cheers for now mate :-)

    Your rear end in your grasshopper is installed wrong the tiny springs face down not up your cocking the rear end in a up possession it needs to be at the bottom of travel not the top that's why your 540 is hitting the shocks
