  • In this video I build the Tamiya Grasshopper 2 Black Edition, Item No: 47471. As with all Grasshopper based Tamiya buggies it a straight forward and easy build. I've upgraded the motor from the standard 380 motor to the Tamiya Super Stock RZ motor, which should give it loads of power. I'll get it out for a run very soon to see how it goes. Enjoy!
    Thanks for watching.

      They're a sweet looking motor and go great, just keep in mind you may need to run a fan if you use the standard ESC otherwise it might shut down due to heat. A Hobbywing 1060 maybe a better option for this motor.

    Good tip on the diff. I rebuilt my original mid 80's hornets gearbox recently and it is very loose. I think I might wip it apart again and put AW grease in. Must say these gearboxes are bulletproof considering mine is 35 years old and still all good

    @1Stunna2323 Před 2 lety +1

    Does the increased resistance in the diffs cause the motor to run hotter? Sorry I'm new at this lol. I'm building this kit this holiday season and I'm only using a regular 540 silver can and I was wondering if I can just get away with using regular grease that came with the kit.

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi! I guess it could make it run a little hotter, but I doubt it would be much of and issue. I only used this grease to make the diff a little more limited slip. It's totally fine to use the kit grease. 👍

  • @Chris-sd6os
    @Chris-sd6os Před 2 lety +1

    I have been on the edge whether to add one of these to my collection. I have one issue with this edition - the CVA shocks. I think they are the wrong colour and out of proportion size-wise making buggy sit too high. I think it would look better in the non-export variant with the friction shocks. That said I will probably end up getting one! Great video again Mick.

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  Před 2 lety +2

      G'day Chris. I was also unsure if I'd get one, but I have most of the other buggies with hoppers chassis so I kinda had to. I agree, I think the CVA's and the wheels should have been black. You could add small spacers on the shock shafts, inside the shocks to lower it a bit I guess. If you do happen to get one, don't use the "soft" shock oil supplied in the kit, it's still too hard. I'll drain mine and put something softer in before I run it. Thanks Chris, cheers! 👍

    Hi Mick it looks great mate👍but yeah the tamiya soft oil is not soft enough for sure! you seen mine on the TC and what l used in the shocks and of course the diff lock l did but apart from that l really like this version of the hopper 2 and like you said Mick the camera does not do the decals justice!! • @juicedcoupe
      @juicedcoupe Před 2 lety +2

      In something as light as a hopper, it probably won't matter. Turn limits are just ballpark recommendations, amp draw and heat are the true limitations.

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  Před 2 lety

      That's right Chris, the TBLE-04S is limited to 25t same as the TBLE-02S so I may have to add a fan to it. It may get too hot and shut down but it should be fine with a fan. 👍

  • @Chris-sd6os
    @Chris-sd6os Před 2 lety +1

    I have to commend you on the painting of the driver’s helmet! Can I ask how you get the black so neat? Do you use masking tape and what size of brush? My efforts always look a little amateur.

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks mate. They way I do it is I kind of have the brush full of paint, just enough that it doesn't drip but still very wet. I find it's best to hold the brush at a 45 degree angle and pull it around the helmet. Not ON the edge of the padding line but very close to it, kind of using the side of the brush. This way the paint just flows up to the edge of the helmet padding line, so no tape is needed. It will take some practice but it's the easiest way I've found, much quicker than masking. The brush I use is the Tamiya Modeling Brush HG Item 87155. Hope this helps mate! 👍
