- The SG Racing Sequential Shifter Pro and Handbrake are heavy-duty bits of kit that look the part with their solid aluminium construction. But for Sim Racing you also want your peripherals to feel as authentic as possible for maximum immersion.
SG Racing have devised the Bolt Plunger Feedback Mechanism in their sequential shifter to create an authentic feeling shift. They also have a Shifter and Handbrake combo available, which along with customisable shaft lengths makes for a very neat and tidy solution for any sim racing cockpit. So we took a close look at these products from SG Racing and took them for a drive to see if they might be the best Sim Racing Shifter and Handbrake for you!

#simracing #shifter - Hry
Correction: The basic version of the shifter mentioned in the pricing chapter also doesn’t have the bolt plunger system.
My favorite SQ in terms of feeling till now. Great review Will
This is high quality for real!
I own the combo for half an year now and couldn’t be happier,it’s all sturdy, work flawlessly, gives nice amazing feedback and the color customization is an added bonus which can be a great treat.
A few years back, I made a DIY version of the sequential shifter with the exact same design. I actually used a closet door ball catch to give that hard click. With a USB joystick board , it had a steel shaft and wood internals . I put thin aluminum on the sides . If you are DIY handy you can make this yourself , it's pretty simple. But , it's also hard get that same quality
Iv had the SG shifter for almost 2 years. I primarily to rally racing. I beat the hell out of my shifter all the time. It has never failed me. Never missed a shift, never shifted on its own, no rattling, not getting loose, NOTHING! This thing is a beast! I would of got the hand brake but i opted for a load cell handbrake by a different brand.
Still got it or upgraded?
@@chriskonieczny9372 i still have the SG shifter and its going strong
I’ve had the combo for about 6 months and have zero complaints. It was interesting to see that your combo didn’t have the baseplate that allows you to swing the handbrake towards the driver.
I literally just moved my fanatec shifter up higher and slightly inward last night as I want that race car sequential feel. Then this video comes out. 😅 This is exactly what I was picturing.
I love my SG racing sq shifter, i have owned it for about 2.5 years or so, upgraded from the aiologs shifter that you run and i have the same opinion as you, aiologs is a great shifter but the sg racing just feels soo much real.
Nice review Wiil. Would be good to see how this shifter compares to the Jinx v2, being they make sequential shifters for V8 Supercars as well.
I got the shifter and handbrake combo for about 18 months and I can't recommend them enough. The feeling is amazing and support from SG is top notch. Super responsive and he has always a solution for a perfect custom fit.
The feeling is amazing, support is top notch, it's super responsive but you can't recommend them? 😅
read again ;)
Ohh, my bad, sorry 😋 @@fullpace_simracing
it's all good 😊
Nice, might be the option I'm looking for !
I remember making gripped handles like those with a lathe when I went to trade school. I like the "rough" look they have
Known as knurling, as I'm sure mort people here would already know.
Would love for you to try the oktane designs. I have it and love the feel. Nice compact yet robust unit.
I'm curious to know, in addition to pedals and wheels, how much they can influence PCs, monitors and SIM rings (and various accessories)
it would be interesting to make a comparison between a complete beginners setup and an export pilot one, to see how much difference there really is just in setup
Nice review as usual.
Had the shifter for about a year its pretty great almost every time i pass by my rig i shift it a few times just because:D Went with heusinkveld for the hand brake. Nitpicking but wish the box was somehow intergrated into the unit and had a separate cable with usb-c connection in this price range..
I believe that "pattern" on the grip area is called knurling in case you didn't know. Most commonly used to gain some type of grip on CNC or machined parts that are typically smooth.
I'm surprised that I've not seen you review the shifter from Jinx, mate. I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts and comparisons.
Nice review as always! When do the Simagic reviews come? I would like to buy Simagic gear because of their ecosystem and continuous development. Are you planning a review on the new Simagic GT Neo wheel as well? I think that one is insane value for the money compared to Cube Controls where you sometimes get less for way more money.
I got the Shifter since a year and the build-quality is super nice. Only thing that annoys me it is missing the proper "feel" when shifting after a year, its more like... you get the shift done quite early in the process and the actual hardware-cut is way later (meaning, the "clicking" like on wheel-pedals is quite early and the actual "feel" for the physical shift is way later in the process. Apart from that, they are way better than their price indicates. I am quite sensual on these things though, even on a 1.5k, 2.0k and 2.5k wheel I feel the shift way before I hit the magnets.
Could you slight bend in the metal switch to increase the throw?
The oktane Designs shifter looks very similar, but different technical choice, with a magnetic solution. You really have to pull rather than engaging in a slot.wpuld love to have your comparaison
You guys should try to see if you can get ahold of the jinx supercar shifter combo. Love to see a review on these. Bonus they are made in Australia
Tried years ago but never got a response.
I spend a few hours to repair my simagic q1,5. Had to dissassemble totally . A spring was jammed. I manage to use tie wraps so the mécanism work. Yes tie wraps that do what a simple spring is supposed to do 😂
Less than 8 months. 😢
Hey Will thanks for this video, great review. I have been looking at this solution for a while now. Not to get partner approval but because I don't have the space for a full-sized rig and need something that looks clean when stored away. In your intro you said you can't really compare the Coffee Racer solution to anything else on the market, but then during the Play section you did sort of compare the Play, saying that the driving experience is more like a proper rig than a foldable one. Have you tried the Next Level Racing 2.0 wheel stand and if so, how would you compare that to the Play in combination with the desk chair mount?
Both solutions mount to a desk chair and can be folded away. The Coffee Racer just looks more clean when not in use.
Hi nice video can you do video about some cheap handbrake for logitech g29?thx your videos is best
got the vnm handbreak and looking for a seq upgrade for my thrustmaster shifter i think i may of found it
They're nice; just wish they were anodized instead of painted b/c it easily chips off if something lightly knicks them. Also have to be careful cleaning them with anything that breaks down the paint like isopropyl alcohol as it will rub it right off.
I love mine v8 supercars are so much fun
So, when are you getting your hands on the v2 versions of shifter and handbrake??
Have you ever tested the SRT gearbox v9.1 ?
I've had the pro combo for a few years, I love using the shifter with the Clio, GR86, MX5 and the combination setup for rally racing the VW Beetle. Amazingly sturdy feeling, really simulates a sequential shifter and handbrake, probably my favorite Sim racing accessory.
These look well engineered overall, but the use of the eyelets and spring for the neutral switch looks a bit tacky, in my opinion. I think a more "integrated" internal spring would provided a more engineered appearance.
I am wondering since fanatec handbreak is poorly made what alternatives are there that’s compatible with fanatec and ps5
Looks quality!
Does it ship tho
@boosted media.. can give whats going on fanatec clubsport dd+
can you make a video about it huhu
They’re waiting on approval from Sony before they can start shipping it to customers. Latest updates are on their blog.
How does it compare to BJ Simracings shifter?
I'd also like to know this.. you mention in this video it's the best feeling shifter that you have ready, would it even beat the BJ SQ Shifter as that had a very strong magnet with springs..
How can I DM you?
Can I have one?
That spiral cable wrap looks *embarrassing* for the price point. $0.50 worth of heatshrink and mesh sleeve kept the shifter from looking premium. Shame.
I would not be so harsh on the manufacturer. It’s only a cable at the end, the build quality of the shifter itself is amazing, it’s build like for real race car.
cannot afford it let alone all the rest that belongs to a racing sim, yall crazy
