- This is a quick video on how to beat the Soul Master in Hollow Knight.
The Soul master is the boss guarding the Desolate dive ability which is required to beat the game. It is super helpful especially for getting the crystal heart ability in the crystal peak BEFORE needing the lumafly lantern.

It’s funny when watching these boss tutorials the boss’ attack look sequential but when I actually fight them they’re random as Fxxk

On the second phase i got an orb spawned over my head when healing
Not only are they random but the guy teleports mid attack to hit you from a different angle and somehow there's still there spells following you

I thought I killed this guy after like my 10th attempt and put down my controller in relief only for him to come back to life and finish me off. You can imagine my heartbreak.
That’s a great learning experience when you fight bosses just make sure they are dead 😊

That moment when you think you finally won after all the hardships you went through, only for Soul Master to destroy the arena floor and all your hopes and dreams with it.
I put my controller down when I thought I won and popped off because it took me way too many tries. I only had one mask left-

Actually this is the one time i am glad i spoiled myself because overwise the surprise and stress would have made me lose
I survived with one heart and felt so happy it was over. I healed all I could (one heart) and then the floor crashed happened... I was panicking and just ran on instinct and thankfully I beat Phase 2 on my first try, again with one single heart left. It got my pumping, that's for sure.

When I saw him in the background, I knew it was going to be the boss (no music plays when you arrive, after all. That usually indicates something big is coming.), and I started going: "Yeah, I see you back there, jerk! Get over here and fight me! FIGHT ME!"
And when he appeared and attacked? "No, nononono never mind I changed my mind go away please AAUGH!"
Aaaannd I died afterwards. XD
I love these bossfights but it pisses me off that the respawn points are always far away

There's actually a close one, right by cornifer. When you enter the soul sanctum, if u enter it from the bottom left, there's a secret elevator and u can hear cornifer on the left hand side of the wall. There should be a breakable wall there and u can break it to get to cornifer.
I enjoy the fact that you used the old nail, since players that make it this far usually have the first upgrade so that they can actually learn the attack patterns

I'm disappointed I'm now just playing this. This game is so beautiful. It's looks and feels astonishing. By far, favorite area is city of tears. It's gorgeous. It sets a very melancholy feel with the music and the rain.
Same I usually don't even like Metroidvania or platformers but this game changed my mind. Love the music also

this guy is not some corny guy with glasses, he knows what he's talking about, use your dashing ability towards the boss when he fires projectiles and get a hit in....great video

There is actually a breakable wall near the bench that makes it much easier to get there. The wall is in the elevator shaft right next to the bench on the map.

When the four spinning attack goes to the other side you can just stand in the corner and it won’t touch you
In my first playthrough, Soul Master took so many attempts, so then I left the game for a while cause I got bored of it for a little while. I then came back and one attempted him

i love it when i'm sweating throwing up crying having the third anxiety attack over a boss and i find someone on youtube who is just the embodiment of calm. (seriously tho great video!! IT really did make me less of a nervous wreck when killing this one XD)
There is a secret passage in the wall that you can break while riding the elevator on the wall beside the cartographer. This allows you to get to the boss faster from the bench.

Glad you were able to make this guide. I like him alot, but I was surprised people were struggling with him so much, because I felt like for every move he made, all you had to do was make a specific move to counter. As long as you don't rush him, you should be fine.
Now broken vessel, on the other hand, on my first playthrough I struggled with more, but that's just because I was overthinking it and would end up jumping into him 24/7

Thanks, this video really helped me prepare for dodging all the attacks in this fight. It only took me three tries, much fewer attempts than I expected.
Soul master is actually my favorite boss, but gave me soooo much trouble on my first playthrough :0
varie star honestly at this point after all the fights against soul tyrant this feels like slow mode, just like the other bosses.

Hes not my #1 favorite boss but he is in the top 5 yet
I found a good way to deal a lot more damage is during his attack where he moves from left to right you can jump behind him and fireball him (I forgot the name of the spell). I can usually get two or three hits with it since he’s moving with it.

I'm on my 4th play thru. Just grabbed desolate dive and found him to be easier this time. One upgrade to my nail and mark of pride. The minion you face at the beginning of the soul sanctum gave me a problem. Each play thru seems a bit different for me. Love your work boss! Keep at it.
For the second phase, it seems to vary between shooting 3 orbs and 4 orbs. So f your struggling there you count three and heal after you’ve dodged the 3rd or know it won’t hit you, and if there’s a 4th one just bail and heal after that. There’s definitely enough time to heal 1 mask, maybe 2 after the final shot.

Not even going to argue with that! I remember being the filthiest casual back in April just starting the game and because of your videos I can proudly and confidently say all that's left for me is the Pantheon of Hollownest. Some of the stuff you mentioned in this video I didn't even learn until my 22nd attempt on the Soul Tyrant😂
The Wayward Compass is the most op charm in the game. Without it I could never have defeated the Radiance or the Trial of the Fool.
