To be fair, Finrod in the show is a great template for the more... feanorian Elves. He actually pops in my head when I think of Celegorm and Curufin.
I also really like Bear McCreary's music (he was already a genius in his BSG days). But yeah, the show is all over the place and not very good in terms of writing.

This exact scene displays something viewed by the characters to be good, being created with the involvement of a malevolent force. I wasn't crying, I was using humor to be critical.
These look like men of Gondor with fake ears. Elves are fair and angelic. They take their time when they talk.. they’re immortal.

This was fucking soulless. The narration, the fucking visuals. Like copying the style in which Tolkien writes, probably to make the fans feel good, but without actually putting a single emotion or interesting thing into it.
Rings of power made me want to walk into Mordor.

When i first saw this scene, I had to rewatch it several times over to make sure I was hearing and seeing things correctly. Mithril is essentially silver that never tarnishes. That's it. But this? What even is this? This is such Goliath levels of dumb that it's actually kind of amazing. I don't know what was being smoked during the production of this series, but it must've been some damn strong stuff.

I don't know, I think it's a little unfair to say this scene is dumb. He very clearly says at the beginning that this scene is from a SONG that comes then from "an obscure legend regarded by most to be apocryphal" aka let's not take this literally.

honestly its not a bad explanation. The story sounds more of a legend than anything. And is a good tool to explain why Mithril is found only in Khazad-dum.

The original trilogy's balrog scene is one of the most iconic and unforgettable moments in cinema history. Balrog scene in rings of power, completely forgot it even existed.

I don‘t get why on one hand they try to separate themselves from the PJ-Movies and at the same time „borrowing“ the visuals, such as the Balrog. Which‘s design was developed specifically for the Trilogy.

there's a video on CZcams of an artist sketching what he thinks is a balrog as he reads the direct passage from the books, and it looks _completely_ different. Looks dope as hell, but yes, extremely different from what we see in the Fellowship. I recommend watching it!
Amazon is falling in these weird in between where they aren't producing anything original but also not paying homage to Jackson/s LOTR and it just seems like this whack mess.
The dialogue, acting, costume design, set design & sfx are absolutely abysmal in this show lmaooo the things talented people could have done with a fraction of this budget is depressing
The Rings of Power was an insult to all things good about Tolkien’s work. Proof than pouring millions of dollars into a project doesn’t give it quality.
This show looks so stunning and brave. The Tolkien estate should be ashamed of giving the rights to these people.

Young Elrond is not the worst cast for an Elf, I could see him as Maeglin, or one of Fëanor's sons. Gil-Galad here does have long hair, but his face has no eternal beauty, I do not like him.

The amount of detail especially in khazad dum is amazing. There's not been a film set around the Simalarian and here it is in a series. Best thing on amazon I've seen for a while!!

Poor writing because they couldn´t explain how the rings actually worked. They couldn´t explain how the elves put a piece of their will into the rings, so that these could preserve middle earth. Instead, we have a bs explanation about some balrog and elf that created it.
In fact, the Rings of Power are heavy witchcraft, Sauron simply convinced Celebrimbor and company that everything was fine. The Rings were the closest thing to the arts of Enemies that the elves had ever created, it wasn't a good thing.
And how 16 rings were made first with his help. And that the three were made afterward, without Sauron's influence or him knowing about them until he created the one ring. For some unfathomable reason they decided to change all of that.
Can someone explain what happened to the elf? Only the balrog was found in the depths of the mountain.
Don't listen to this nonsense, this show is rubbish against Tolkien's work.

Besides everything about this being dumb, what annoys me the most here is how one of the most expensive tv shows ever made can't make the battle of an elflord clad in light and a Balrog look visually interesting. Dumb writing is expected but come on, at least make your dumb shit look cool.

I tried to watch and see something positive about this show, I really did. But even if we were to accept the ridiculous idea that mithril was created from a tree being struck by a lighting, that would not have been a complete bullshit, if not for the fact that Mithril was also found on Numenor, Eregion and Aman, with Misty Mountains having just the biggest amount of ore, so unless there were more than one balrog fighting with more famous elves over other famous trees truck by a lighting in other parts of middle earth, this story is complete bullshit.
Its strongly impled Tolkien was inspired by titanium or platinium when making Mithril, and the idea for it came from the Hervarar saga where Orvar-Odd wore a indestructable chain mail.
This show is just pure garbage.
Only Hollywood douches and Amazon could take something as pure and noble as Tolkien's works and turn it into this laughable farce.

I think it's the best scene in the entire series. Very well portrayed. The origin of Mithril isn't canonical, more like a legend. The only thing that bothers me is the statement about the heart. It's blasphemous to say that this elf had a heart like Manwë. No elf or mortal is comparable to a Valar. I'd need to think about how to phrase it better. Perhaps something like "The fire Feanor sowed still burns in the heart."

all you people crying about how the story of mithril is dumb...you guys realise this show is not your Holy Bibbbbble, right? not everything everyone says in it is gospel truth. just because the characters believe something, that doesn't make it true, even in the context of the show's own lore. all this clip shows is a myth that Gil-galad believes. he even says so himself.
Except they show that the mithril does restore the Mallorn leaf in a later episode. Showing that the mithril does has magical properties of restoration. They are heavily implying that the story is true. Which is dumb

They did not need to make an explanation to why there is mirthril just like no one needs an explanation to why there are diamonds, gold, iron etc. They did this to make a cool scene with a balrog lol so fucking stupid.
