You can't just summon a Balrog, a Balrog is a Maiar like Sauron, Gandalf or Saruman. They were the elite guards of Morgoth, the master of Sauron.

Why I don't like about this balrog is that they trow away all the "Darkness" that emanated from the Peter Jackson version and the descriptions of the books for a more "Fire demon with armor" design.
If you see the Balrog in the peter Jackson movies, even if the design is a bit off, at least they made that smoke and darkness constantly emanate from it, like a Balrog should do, given that in the books is described as Shadow inside darkness.

@glennspratlin3357, you're confusing yourself, friend. The Wizards are of the Istari order, and they're all Maiar. Istari means wizard. Balrogs are also Maiar. Whereas the actual gods of middle earth are Valar
I know alot of people just see Fire and Shadow demon that kills and destroys everything, but I was looking forward to the Balrog having a bit more of a presence in this game. Like it had its own agenda beyond the rampage, could take forts for its own, have a cult of orcs follow it, and be a menacing third party in the conflict between Talion and Sauron. Having it be a palate cleanser boss between orc fights is fine, but having it be a character in its own right woulld have been epic.

Weirdly enough, i am only slightly intimidated by this balrog as opposed to genuinely petrified out of terror like in the third age game.
What about the balrog in the movies?
It's not hopeless for sauron to try taming a balrog for, even being on par with him in terms of ranks, Sauron is the closest thing there is to morgoth: his successor and lieutenant. He is more powerful than a balrog, and balrogs being the guards of melkor they could accept to side with sauron because of common interests ecc.
(That said, the example of saruman submitting to sauron isn't completely fitting, I think he served him not out of respect but because he wanted the ring for himself, and must have thought that helping sauron find it would get him in the condition to steal it)
You can't "tame" a balrog because a balrog is not a beast. You can try to convince him though, but then again, nothing could stop him to try to seize the power for himself.
Regarding Saruman, he was afraid of Sauron because of his influence through the palantiri, just like Denethor.
@@johnr9679 Yes he was afraid, but he was trying to get the ring for himself. His hand was forced at Helm's Deep. He thought he could become the new Dark Lord and rule from Isengard
I noticed a lot of people in the comments have the misconception the balrogs wouldn't obey Sauron because he is also maiar just like them, forgeting that Saruman who was also a maiar and the greatest of the istari bended the knee to Sauron.
Sauron commanded Saruman and was his master, so the idea that a fellow maiar wouldn't obey Sauron is wrong. Saruman is the perfect example he was Sauron's puppet.
Sauron was never ever the master of Saruman. Sauron never had full control of him. Saruman's goal was to find the ring for himself and overthrow Sauron as the next dark lord. His ambition and arrogance are Saruman's true masters.
@@architius Saruman openly called Sauron his master and did his bidding, so Sauron was indeed his master even if Saruman had his own agenda he still bended the knee to Sauron to achieve it.

Also Saruman was corrupted by Sauron to join evil but he never grovelled beneath his feat and proclaimed him his master. Saruman did not even work for Sauron. All he did was for his own gain. He never listened to an order he said.
Now if Sauron was succesful in gaining the ring then and only then Saruman would turn from supposed ally to Sauron’s puppet.
I’m not a fan of Tolkiens work but this comment section is why I respect his work and it’s fanbase. The depth in the story telling is insane

Celebrimbor was right, no one can tame Balrog including Sauron, why? because Balrog was a Maiar, the same being as both Sauron n Ishtari (Wizards like Gandald, Radagast n Saruman). this Balrog only served one Dark Lord n it's Morgoth, not Sauron. so, that monster wouldn't bow to Sauron even if Sauron have the Ring of Power for Sauron is lesser than Morgoth himself so to speak.

Sauron has complete dominion over the forces of Morgoth after his fall, and commands total dominion over the dark things that Morgoth created.

@@j-s-m They only beat Smaug because they knew he was missing a scale under his belly, his skin is like Mithril, and hes 2-3x bigger, and the Balrogs are vulnerable to stabbing damage. I think Smaug would win against 1 Balrog.

No, Sauron at his apex couldn’t contend with Numenor. Morgoth at his apex was 1 manning the rest of the valar on Arda. Sauron’s whole plan only worked because Morgoth sacrificed the majority of his power corrupting middle earth. So every evil person or creature is the product of Melkor’s sacrifice.

Numenor is an exception since Eru himself directly intervened, but I'm sure they (valar) can sunk it if they wanted to.
If the valar ever joined directly during Sauron's reign, what's left of ME will sunk too.
