Hey all, thanks for a all the kind words! While at Monolith, I had the privilege of directing all of the cinematics in this video. It means a lot to still see people watching what we worked so hard to create!!
While this game is non canon it has more respect for Tolkiens work that the heresy I shall not name. Wish we got to see more of sauron, the nazgul, shelob, and Balrogs in general
It is all completely non-canon but I like the idea that before he could conquer Middle-Earth, Sauron had to conquer Mordor first
I love how Sauron at the end is like: I was mentored by the worlds first Anarchist rebel child, and you think you can dominate ME?!?
This game has an awesome sense for the dark force. I wanna see more of sauron and the nazgul
Honestly this was a pretty amazing non-canon story, they made it almost fit perfectly into the narrative as an explanation of what was going on in mordor prior to the hobbit/fellowship timeline. That talion and celebrimbor's efforts had delayed sauron's plans by a number of years but both eventually fell to the dark lord as the story reached the start of lotr almost gave reason to why bilbo or gollum never got found by the eye when using the ring too. It basically used important characters well and made it work with the established lore thats all rings of power the show had to do but sticking to the given story was too much for their ego and they had so much more room to play with then this did. Hell some of the orc generals you could get had more personality then some characters in the show.
Between Shadow of Mordor/War, War in the North, Battle for Middle Earth, LOTRO, and even the Total War mods the stories that various games have added to Tolkien's world are really high quality and fit in so well. I like them as much as the original books. Of course you get a few oddballs like The Third Age but overall remarkable and much more consistent than franchises like Star Wars or Marvel.
It's actually a great story, even with the retcons and while being a comlete non-canon fiction. I remember I enjoyed the story in my playthrough. Can't say the same about the series.
It is weird that even though I know how this is going to end (according to LOTR) I still cheer for our hero to win at the end…
It began with the forging of the great films.
I really hope someday they'll make a Lord of the rings game like this again 👍
imagine a unreal engine lotr game that covered the whole timeline i swear i would empty my bank account for it😂
Talion fought for so long and fought so hard before he finally fell.
"The Fallen believe there are consequences without any rules. The Standing know there is both."
I love this game and thought it was great despite the non-canon aspect, but I really was disappointed that after creating amazing backstories for the first three Nazgul, all we got for the Witch King was "You cannot see inside me, nothing of my soul remains." Since the story was already non-canon, I think this would have been an amazing addition to the story to see into the mind of the Witch King.
So he has yellow eyes... two swords on his back... and fights evil monsters... since when was Geralt in LOTR?
"You have served me well. Minas Morgul is yours." "Aw, thanx a bunch...It's a fucking shit hole."
Basically we were playing the back story of one of the 9 Nazgûl the whole time 🔥 loved this game wish there was a 3rd one
Sauron walking out of the fire symbolising the eye is top notch
This ending made me cry amazing. thank you for making this universe even more adventurous.
