I love how in the whole game Elatriel’s subtly trying to convince Talion to not trust Celebrimbor, and that the ring is wrong. Then when offered the ring, she’s suddenly like “Gee Wiz, he has a point”
"Trust me talion, its a really good idea to have another power hungry elf with knowledge about rings as the ruler over the forces of mordor"
Elatriel is just another self righteous elf.
Almost every fantasy game makes it hard to not have a biased hate against elves by default
I mean imagine having to follow these cloaked fools around for the next 700-1000 years, you die and they’re still around.
Well, it goes a hell of a lot deeper than that

Evil Talion: Hold my ring.
The thing is he became a nazgul after he defeated the nine and whitout the spiders visions theres no way to see the future but only the past
Fr tho. Poor talion :(
Even at this point, as the Nazgul gather around for a pint, Helm Hammerhand listens to Talion's story and is like,
Hammerhand: "Well, gee, that's fucked up."
Talion: "You don't say?"
Hammerhand: "I mean, what kind of monster she-elf just stabs you in the back like that?"
Talion: "I KNOW, RIGHT??!?"
Of all the Nazgul, Helm Hammerhand was the most stupid to make him an Nazgul.

If you ask me, his daughter got what she deserved. She got between her father, who... you know... was her father; and the dude who shot him with 7 arrows - any one of which could have easily missed him and hit her instead, and then full on kidnapped her. Stockholm Syndrome much?
After he FUCKING raids his Castle...
He wasnt actually a king king he was a small king that had small power but yeah
Yeah, that is something I never understood, “if you kill me, you’ll start a war”, you attacked a king (not a particularly powerful one, but still a king) and kidnapped his daughter for a forced marriage. If this was in the Middle Ages of Europe, a war would of been started because you didn’t give the king respect, let alone actually nearly killing one and kidnapping his daughter.

Iron Wolf Ok so no man WILL defeat the witch King. The point still stands as he is a man and he did defeat the witch King. One question I do have is if this whole Shadow of Mordor series is supposed to be in line with the LOTR movie adaptation

would anybody else pay to see lord of the rings from Sauron's perspective. His story on how he corrupted men and came to power.
Oh yeah, I would! :)
And I wish, Sauron had never lose his Ring and where still around. :)
Especially with him bending the Orcs and beasts of Mordor to his will
@hwhehe hehehe yeah but that’s not his perspective so much as a general history of Arda

So as switch in design from his badass normal form to his terrefying armor form. It fits his manipulative & supurior side.
Honestly, this ending was so beautiful it gave me chills. Talion sacrificed everything for Middle Earth, even eventually his own morals, and then ended up being freed from the darkness by the Fellowship. It might not be canon, but it fits beautifully with the canon themes of how ANYONE can be corrupted by the Rings of power, even from the purest intent, and in the end it took a pair of hobbits to rescue them.
Edit to add: It also fits perfectly with the theme that Middle Earth wasn't saved by one person. It was saved by a bunch of small people in their small worlds, doing all that they could to hold back the darkness - even when they had no reason to believe it would amount to anything.
Talion didn't know that one day, the Fellowship would rise. Aragorn didn't know Frodo was still alive. There was a while where Sam thought Frodo was dead. Theoden had no idea there even WAS a plan with the ring. Frodo and Sam didn't know that Sauron hadn't already won. Yet they all fought, for as long as they could - and in the end, it was enough. In the end, all those tiny little efforts combined to do something incredible - they won.
Just as Gandalf understood too: "I found that it's the small things". :'-)
To think of the odds stacked against them. A army of orcs, the might of Sauron, and the cruel Witch King along with his Nazgul. It makes all the little people's ,who fought against such evils, victory even more satisfying.
Lotr fans: Anyone can be corrupted in the end

I could not get enough of their voices in the game. They sound so awesome and metallic and are so satisfying to listen to. I could listen to them talking for hours and be totally fine with it.
Yep. I'd definitely like it if somebody manages to extract all their dialogues and lines from game files. Could listen to it instead of music.
Another astounding fact is that even after all the heavy post-processing of the voices to make them sound all Nazgûl-like you can still clearly hear different voice actors! The most prominent examples are Witch-King and Talion (in DLC Blade of Galadriel during the final battде between him and Eltariel).
'Don't know why, but I would have wanted them to use the dark speech while talking to each other.
Aaaaaand there I was back in 2015, thinking the Knights of Ren would have had a Nazgul-like backstory in the Star Wars Sequels...

The Inquisitors are more Nazgul than whatever the Knights of Ren were.
The Nazgul will wipe out all of the Knights of Ren, especially the Original Sith Lords. The Force is nothing to the power of Sauron.
@@multiverse_media2023 More like, the (dark side of the) Force is the equivalent of the power of Morgoth/Sauron. Same concept, different universes.
Anyway, really, the more I think about it, the more the idea of the Knights of Ren as a group of traitorous exiled Jedi from centuries ago seems appealing. Like a mixture of the Nazgul and the army of the dead. It's a pity they wasted them so badly that they had to force the Sith back in.

31:17 - Like the parallel between Hammerhand and Talion there.
Yooo I never noticed that
Yeah same here. Both were men who fell and were given "redemption" by a ring. Both were men fueled by sheer rage, hatred, sadness, and despair.
yep
I always thought he looked more like the Black Hand from the first game. He became the very thing that's brought him so much despair and misery, but also purpose.
Badass, though.
You know I just realized the similarities between Sauron and Celebrimbor.
-Both want to conquer something.
-Both have some version of immortality.
-Both created a ring of power different than the others.
-Both control a large army.
-Both rely to an extent on the power of one of the rings.
-Both had a hand in making the rings.
-Both are cruel and can be manipulative.
And those are just the ones I can name off the top of my head.
I think the game might have been trying to be subtle in that regard. Almost as warning signs for Talion.
Don't be Witch-king 2.0.
Dark Lord, Bright Lord. Same thing really!
That was definitely the message here. It didn’t matter if there was a dark lord, or bright lord in power. Nothing changes. They both just want power.
@@Whimsy3692 if talion become witch king 2.0. thats still better than what he got
In the end there has to be balance, both Dark and Light need to coexist. Absolute Darkness: there is nothing, everything is covered in Shadow. @@gaiuspompeius1 Nice try Garithos !
That's kinda bit racist of you gentleman
I know many people are angry about the freedom they took and numerous instances that they broked the lore. But still, i enjoyed the story and "fictional" lore they put in. I think it was interesting and authentic
Indeed, it's a different spin on the mythos. Nobody's going to rewrite the books, the canon is there.
I am confused about them sometimes using the movie looks of characters or places (like Gollum, Mount Doom, Barad dur, Minas Morgul) and other times using completely new designs (like Sauron's or the Witch King's armors or Galadriel). It's like they don't know what they actually want.
I think the main problem with other media changing the lore of books which they are based on is that some people will eventually see the game/movie lore as relevant to the books. In different comment thread under this video, I am having discussion with someone who is trying to persuade me that Isildur could have been a Ringwraith in the books, because Saruman could have given his 3000 years old bones to Sauron and he could have ressurected him by putting one of the Nine on his fingerbones. And he really stands behind his opinion, because in his mind, Rings ressurect people, Nazghúl are being replaced like old socks (instead of being the same 9 men who got the rings from Sauron in the Second Age) and I think it is really wrong when someone´s vision of canon Middle-earth is so much distorted from what Tolkien wrote.
Filip Batora Then, Isildur isn't one of the 9, am I right? That's just pure fiction the game makes.
Correct. In Tolkien´s works, only Witch King and Khamúl (his second in command) are named, but we know that all of them were given rings by Sauron in the Second Age.
Has anyone notice Celebrimbor laughed a little when he said that "we crafted a ring" ?
I did, man. Kinda jokey for Celebrimbor
You know, I know much of the lore in Shadow of War wasn't "Canon" to what was in the books, but to be perfectly honest, I really liked what they added.
Shelob having shapeshifting powers like her mother, and having moivations beyond just being a hungry spider was a nice embellishment.
Thats what they were. Embellishments.
I really liked that the Nazgul weren't Nine continuous Shades, but were a rotating rosta of the nine most powerful men under Sauron's command. The idea that you *could* technically, defeat a Nazgul made them more frightening, rather than less, because it brought some of their power and skill under themselves, rather than just by virtue of being nine faceless servants of Sauron. I really liked teh idea that Isildur's spirit was enslaved by Sauron, or that the someone could defeat a Nazgul, claim their ring of power, and then become a Nazgul themselves, eventually taking their defeated enemies place. Theres a certain "Sith Rule Of Two" to it, that strikes me as very Sauron. Either way he ends up with a powerful servant, and it means that Sauron continuous to be deceptive and corruptible all his reign, rather than just briefly before becoming a flaming eye. (And yes, I know that was just in the films).
It's too chaotic to be Sauron. This is the guy who was so anal-retentive that his minions had serial numbers.
Also, Ungoliant didn't actually have shapeshifting powers. She became bloated and engorged, and we know that Maiar don't pass on their abilities to their offspring; Luthien had to don Thuringwethil's cloak to shapeshift, after all.
Yeah I don't get people that get mad that it isn't lore accurate. No new content in lotr will ever be canon, but people should be able to suspend their disbelief a little so that we can see new stories told. It would be like people getting angry that Shrek doesn't respect Grimm brothers fairytale lore.
I wasn’t to mad plus I never red the books I only seen the movies
I'm pretty sure George Lucas kind of Based the Sith Rule of Two and the Sith in general off aspects of those same Books
@@LordMortanius I have mixed feelings about the wraiths being killable, given there’s an implication the witch king was ended with some amount of permanence it shouldn’t be out of the question, though The circumstances needed *to* destroy a nazgul seem like you’d need a lot of factors Like the right mystical weaponry and pretty much fate by ones side. I can’t imagine it happened Too often as their imperishability is ome of their main edges when plot armor keeps them from killing too many named characters
It’s good to see how the Nazguls were like, back when they were alive.
sorry to tell you but the characters that they choose were bullshit. None of them could have been Nazgul excpet the black dude he was legit a Nazgul. He also was the only Nazgul whit a name we knew of.
Nice to see another RWBY fan here.
Mees arentz actually, I could believe that Isildur was a Nazgul who was released and then replaced. No mortal in Lord of the Rings would know of this or of Talion's existence anyway. Even if the Maiar/Valar themselves knew of Isildur's fate/Talion, what purpose would it serve to bring it up to the Fellowship or anyone else? Even in the books, the Nazgul really are just long forgotten relics of the past to any of the mortal characters; doesn't matter who they were in life anymore, it's not useful to their destruction.
In movies, yes. In the books, Saruman actually managed to find Isildur´s body and recover his royal insignia, which were then found in Isengard. He probably threw the bones away.
Filip Batora *probably?* so it was never actually stated what Saruman did with Isildur's body?

17:08 i love how he says if he kills him he'll start a war even though just a few days or weeks ago he tried to kill a king
Would it have killed them to give each Nazgul a different design. The Hobbit films at least did that
They're claim is that the Nazgul slowly turn into the genetic looking ones the longer they wear the ring. This is why at the end talion and all the others besides the witch king look the same, but I agree with you.
Putinisgood The game took liberties with the Nazgul anyway so I don't see a problem if they made one a female.
The whole point about the Nazgul is that they lose their identity.
Servius M actually their armour is slightly different suladins is more ornate but only helm, Isildur and the witch king have different helmets
I thought they did all have their own designs? Look at when they tried to take the new ring from Shelob.
37:20 In the end, his immense age fell away, and like Aragorn, Talion is revealed in his absolute prime, a state of pure power that he could never have achieved in life. The wisdom of age, the exuberance of youth, and the experience of in between, combined in the freedom of the afterlife. Peace at long last.
Lord ofPlatinum poor talion is finally free
Angel Rider And my valar does he deserve it.
Doesn't he spend like 60 years fighting the Nazgul once Celebrimbor leaves him?
Well considering that Minas Ithil fell for the second time to the Witch King in TA 2002, and that his final death was when Sauron fell in TA 3019, he is about 1017 years old. But of that, he only spent about 100, 110 years as himself, and even then he only spent 40 or so as a man, the rest as a Man-Wraith.
Ahh, so basically, a pretty overdue rest?
31:17 That scene, that few seconds when Talion opened that door... for me it was the most badass and epic scene in this whole game. Even Talion walking on the bridge to Minas Morgul wasn't so epic. But that is just my opinion

Precisely. I don´t know if the intention was to follow the lore´s rules or this game is not supposed to be canon but either way I love this game and the previous one.
It also gives us an idea what the other Ringwraiths once might have been like though we still don't know the background of the Witch King
I quite enjoyed the lore it fits well with Tolkien's lore imo and should be made cannon. If it were, a path would me made towards a future trilogy of movies set after the events of LOTR and the demise of Sauron, as The Bright Lord escaped after the ring was destroyed and the NEW RING is still in one piece. Shelob conveys that Celebrimbor's rule would be worse than that of Sauron.

The pretension is expected from these knife eared a holes so it is acceptable. So many elves in fantasy follow this trend that I sort of just accepted it
@@milkman6883 omg dont oppress me
Can we all just accept the Middle-Earth games are an alternate LotR universe where minor changes can be made? Can we please all just do that? Thanks, my dudes.
Gecko Jesus it won't happen it will always be seen as an "adaption" of tolkein's work and people will get into hissy fits about if.
Minor? They turned the Nazgul into dementors, made shelob a sex kitten and grafted a ghost wrestling match onto the end of the Return of the King. If they didn't want complaints they could have done it without calling it "Shadow of Mordor" but of course you need those Known Characters for the franchise dollars. Fuck when did standards fall so far that hacky monstering of classic works became okay as long as it's for the great God profit? Whatever happened to that artistic integrity we're told copyright is there to protect?
Simon S
You are like a parody of Tolkien fans, seriously. First, what are the fucking "Known Characters" you're talking about? Yes, there are characters from the books but not a single one from the movies except for Gollum and obviously Sauron, but that's because Sauron is always the fucking villain. Yes, they took some liberties. But this is like Elder Scrolls Online, in which they ruin the amazing TES world with bullshit and generic fantasy garbage but it can still be enjoyable. I don't go whining about how they ruined the lore because even though I love the Elder Scrolls and it's my favorite fictional universe, ESO is one godamn game. It's highly doubtful that it's canon and in the case of Shadow of War/Mordor, they're 100% not. Oh and yes, those are still pretty minor changes, all things considered.
And you're like a parody of a 2010s kid who doesn't even remember what it's like to read a coherent, self-contained story that wasn't being screwed around with by the money men from day one. Which would certainly explain why you think it's like the Elder Scrolls, because that's *always* been a bloated, directionless mess of a storyline screwed around with for the sake of whatever Bethesda felt like.
The thing I find interesting is that this is all following on from years of people saying "copyright's really important because it protects the author's work from being bastardised" yet here we are, seeing a godawful hash which has almost nothing in common with Tolkien's work bar some names, specifically enabled because a giant firm with zero artistic integrity squirreled that copyright for gaming purposes. And you're defending it... for reasons, apparently. Because Warner Brothers' right to shit on people's favourite stories is sacrosanct through the sacred process of title deed?
Their right to do whatever the fuck is defended by the fact that they have the rights to the property. As for your inane garbage on the Elder Scrolls, it's just plain wrong. The one game that was like what you mentioned is ESO, and that's because IT WASN'T EVEN THEM. Bethesda didn't even fucking make the game, it was their parent company which pretty much meant they had no godamn choice in the matter. "Because it's always been a bloated, directionless mess of a storyline". Dude. Don't even attempt this. You clearly know nothing about the Elder Scrolls at all. Should I go by each game and tell you why you're wrong? Should I explain to you in baby talk how that universe was created by a few writers and directors that were passionate for what they were doing? Should I tell you about Micheal Kirkbride, who cared enough to make art for and write lore for the Elder Scrolls even when he wasn't working at Bethesda? Their canon is messy, sure, but that's because of C0DA for the most part. They've also had different writers for nearly every game, so you can understand how each of their interpretations could have differed a little bit.
I've never heard someone say copyright protects an author's work from being bastardized. It protects the author's work from being *stolen*. I'm not saying the makers of this game have some God-given right not to be criticized, that would be retarded. I'm saying it's stupid to say they ruined Tolkien, and whine about it ceaselessly. It isn't even fucking canon. It obviously isn't. IT CAN'T BE. It directly flies in the face of Tolkien's lore, and even contradicts the movies. Think about it like an alternate comic book universe. It can be different and several small ways and even one or two big ones, but it's still based off that original universe that all the beloved characters started in. I'm not saying Tolkien fans don't have the right to disagree with the changes, as I am a Tolkien fan myself and I disagree whole-heartedly with these decisions. But... I also just kind of don't care. It's a dumb game made for being fun. It's not high art. I just wish everyone would stop bitching about it.
Talion joining his family in heaven was sad but happy

yep, send all nazgul to fight sehlob......the spider that couldnt even defeat sam:D hahahahahaha
Supposedly that is exactly what she wanted, other than being injured. To force frodo back into action ( she is a creature of darkness but she is a little more "light/dark balance" seeking than other creatures of darkness ) because he was slowly giving in to the ring.
Can't tell you ether it's valid or not, just something I read
The name Ungoliant doesn't ring any bell to you? She may be somewhat related to her.
Lorenzo Ponzo not somewhat related, all the giant spiders in the middle earth are the offsprings of Ungoliant including Sheldon.
Sorry not Sheldon, it's Shelob . Stupid Autocorrect.
@@ArshadAli-rp2cn no no...it's out there now...Sheldon is the spawn of Ungoliant...and that image is now burned into your brain
11:05-12:55, 'kneel before your King'. This scene demonstrates the power of absolutism. Although his mind is poisoned by the venomous tongue of Sauron, the king is still able to exert full power over his subordinates.
Banff454park someone just had an A+ on history
My favorite line. “My torment has ended, yours is just beginning.”
Reading the silmarillian this stuff makes more sense even though they change a lot
bro same for me. Its very interesting, almost like what star wars force unleashed did.
19:11 Still one of my favourite moments in the game simply because of this line of dialogue.
I literally came here just to hear Matt Mercer speak as witch king.
The ending made me cry... but it was mind BLOWING!
Gregory Diloyan TO MUCH ONIONS
It was predictible after playing bright lord dlc in som
Here because of how shitty game of thrones was. The lord of the rings universe is the best fantasy out there has always been. Got can’t compete

I think there is not a best one but the LOTD is definitely one of the best
Sauron's armor in this game is fuckin awesome
This story is 100 times better than Rings of Power. Story, Dialogue, Characters and Feel.
Meyby it rape the Tolkien lore but we still have a good written characters we love or we hate but they have impact of us... In rings of power we have bigger rape on lore and more rape and boring idiotic characters... Shadow of war is a good written fanfic RoP is just disaster...

17:07 I really like this actor's voice. He was the main character in darksiders 1 and one of my favorite riders

And unless I’m mistaken, it’s Liam O’Brian who is the voice of Golum in this game
"You cannot see inside me. The developers had no freaking idea what my backstory is."
Honestly I hope the witch king never gets a backstory, he’s much more intriguing that way. Almost everything in middle earth and beyond has origins, Galadriel, Gandalf, Gollum, even Sauron. But the witch embodies darkness, it has consumed him whole and it is all that he is.

Being angry for that, but not like to crush my friend’s head with rock. But kinda true
Even if you don’t like the lore changes you have to agree that the Nazgul cutscenes looked badass, they were honestly one of things I looked forward to since the first one
This is also one of the major influences, that makes me excited for the Helm Hammerhand movie to come.

Especially in the more casual toned diolauge
I don't understand why Sauron haven't even tried to contact his bros in Warp?
Sauron has tons of old and powerful artifacts, souls and power. Why not share with mighty Gods of Chaos?

can someone explain me this meme?
I really can't figure out why everyone is so upset with this game... Even thought it picks and chooses what parts of lore it follows, still a great game..
It had a bad launch with loads of microtransactions so everyone wrote it off as a failure, when really it was an improvement on shadow of Mordor in almost every area.
12:24 "What has been done to you?" He grew old. You never seen an old man before?
As far as fan fic goes, this game still hold up pretty well, when the main complaint I have is, Sauron cant shapeshift after the fall of Númenor.
Sauron is described at various times in Tolkien’s writings as being less than pleasant to look at. Peter Jackson’s film adaptations likewise present him as a menacing black knight. Even though he’s an unrepentant baddie, you might still be wondering: if the guy is so powerful, why doesn’t he give himself a physical make-over? Well, the answer is “because he can’t”.
When the island kingdom of Númenor sank to the bottom of the ocean during the Second Age, Sauron went down with it. Although he survived, it cost him the ability to assume his angelic disguise (sometimes known as “Annatar”) robbing the Dark Lord of his most effective weapon against Men and Elves.
aaaah yes a true connoisseur
3:34 and Sauron wonders why many people didn't side with him.
Well that wasnt sauron but the witch king of angmar, if you didnt know
Most of those who sided with him were already on the side of his master.
I had loved to get a real nazgul skin at the end of the game so that you have That green glow and this black robe
Sauron gave him that undesirable hug someone gives a friend they havnt seen for a long time.
The game would be 6000 times betting if we could become one of the nine.
Sometimes we don't like playing as the "good guys" in video games, we need more freedom in choosing the out come of the story!
Think that's the route we're going next game.
You join the nine in the true ending.
If you played the game after the shadow wars you basically are a nazgul
KellHunter 21176 thus a company called rockstar was made
KellHunter 21176 people mis interpreted you let me correct you (you want to play as talion the nazgul and serve sauron) what you wrote how ever can mean that you want to be a nazgul just a nazgul talion was a nazgul in act 4 but he didnt serve sauron
i find im back here quite often just for the amazing scenes with Sauron and the Nazguls.
