      However I can of prefer Faramir, his whole life his father has treated him like he doesn't exist, everything is always about Boromir. Faramir is never treated with respect and is just as noble and honourable as Boromir. But they are both 2 great characters

    • @BasePuma4007
      @BasePuma4007 Před 4 lety +57

      @@marekkrzyszczak4759 Yeah, it's a bit head scratching. Since he's Maiar you'd think the scene isn't correct with respect to the lore, but I think things are a bit ambiguous. The witch king is the most powerful of Saurons servants and basically directly wields the terror and malice of his master. Perhaps the witch king in his most powerful state had the strength to match Gandalf or even defeat him since Sauron was a banished former Maiar, at least thats what some people argue. But even without his staff Gandalf was an absolute force not to be taken lightly by anyone, even the witch king.

    • @MrSRA13
      @MrSRA13 Před 4 lety +51

      @@BasePuma4007 the scene differs to the book with the fact the witch king breaks Gandalfs staff but it's similar in that we don't get to see what happens. Gandalf likely would have done something. The key line is 'This is my hour.' So I totally agree with your point. The stronger Sauron is, the stronger the Witch-King is, and in that moment the forces of Mordor were winning. It also makes the Witch-King seem more menacing for the viewers from a movie perspective. I didn't really have a major problem with it.

    These definitely should have been included. The first one adds to Boromir's character a lot, the Witch King vs Gandalf is great due to the sudden realization of Rohan's arrival, and the others are great because they add to Tolkien's vision due to them being a part of the book (aside from Aragorn chopping the Mouth of Sauron's head off which I would have liked to see changed to be more accurate).

  • @Burt1038
    @Burt1038 Před 4 lety +121

    Ok, so the issue with the whole "mouth of sauron" scene (apart from Aragorn's war crime) is that if MOS is trying to discourage the good guys by leading them to believe Frodo is dead, then that implies that he (and, therefore, Sauron) is aware of Frodo's quest and that he is alive somewhere in Mordor. So then it makes no sense that Sauron failed to post a garrison at Mount Doom. Probably why this scene wasn't in the theatrical release.

    • @raynmanshorts9275
      @raynmanshorts9275 Před 4 lety +79

      In the books, I think that Frodo is merely referred to as a "spy," with them being completely unaware that he had the One Ring. Further, the reason why Mount Doom was unguarded regardless is because Sauron knew that none who bore the One Ring could bear to destroy it. Even those rare few that could give it up willingly would never be able to destroy it. And... he was right. The problem is that he didn't count on Gollum destroying it (and himself) on accident.

Literally altering and adding right up until late November when they had to have reels ready to ship worldwide for a DECEMBER RELEASE! The graphics team were sleeping in their conference room so they could just wake up and work before the deadlines and some even had marriages break down due to the stress.

    Legolas's and Gimlis death glares just prove how much they really did care. Even tho they never had any significant parts with Frodo.

    this trilogy is an absolute masterpiece but i had to laugh at the witch king vs gandalf scene. Gandalf was effectively a nerfed demi-god and would utterly obliterate the witch king.

      Well sauron was giving the witch king his powers. I don't think gandolf was as strong as sauron

      @@donaldjohnson7893 yeah i get you, perhaps that could have been sign posted a bit better, or perhaps it was and i just missed it... i guess my gripe for me is this scene to the average viewer made gandalf look like a frail old man in comparison to the witch king, small thing i know aha

      @@Killerkwoi13 I totally agree I always thought gandolf should have won easy. Then I read the books that said sauron was giving the king most of his powers. They definitely should have addressed it in the movies

    The Mouth of Sauron is my second favourite scene! Although my very favourite is not even mentioned: Galadriel's gifts! How Gimli fell in love with here. Most moving.

    Always wondered why they didn't keep the mouth of Sauron in the original version, he's awesome and it gives another "hopelessness" feel for the fellowship what should've been the final nail in the coffin but they keep going either way

      It’s because it’s one of those things that works well in the book with the tension of the scene playing out. You read as a reader that Frodo might indeed be dead. It’s suspenseful and scary but in the movie version it falls flat because as an audience member you’re thinking to yourself he’s not dead he’s right over there. Peter Jackson explained it in the behind the scenes commentary

      Mouth of Sauron. It's not Sauron's mouth. It's Faithless, Sauron's direct servant. Sauron couldn't take physical form because he needed the ring

    After watching the extended cut I couldn't return to the theatrical cut ever again. Too much good scenes missing especially Sarumans death which always bothered me being not included in the theatrical cut.

    How utterly fantastic in Sean Bean for the role of Boromir? I could not imagine another actor on this earth playing that role the way he did.

    IMO with all of the previous buildup, the emotion, the acting, and the dialogue (and of course the visuals) makes the mouth of sauron scene one of cinema's greatest moments
