Bloody been tearing my ass out tryna figure this shit out. Turning the coving around before cutting is the answer. You bloody genius ❤️❤️🤘🤘🤘✊✊
You’re welcome 👍
After watching the video, I now at least have fair idea on how to cut and install coving. Thanks alot bro.
Good video pal, l'm a professional Painter & Decorator with 40+ years of experience. This is a good example of how to help understand and eliminate the common errors when fitting coving. Best wishes from Scotland .
Thank you ..thank you ..thank you so very much for this video . I was able to do the Cornish myself after asking lots of builders who just could not get the corners right .
Can't believe how much of a mind f this originally was for me. The more I went on the easier it got. This video was definitely the biggest help for me. Really made it easy to understand. Not an easy job but I've finished and it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Thanks a million for this video!!
Really clearly explained at a nice slow pace with no steps omitted. Not knowing that I had to flip it over before putting into the miter box was WAS driving me mad. Thank you. 👍
Maaaate, I have bought 3 mitre boxes, all the gadgets and nothing was happening. Turned the bloody thing around and now I'm a master at coving
So glad you posted this, I've got a job today that requires to change the coving and you uploaded it today. You saved the day. You're legend mate. Just started out as a handyman and your videos just helped me many times.

You’re welcome 👍
Very clearly explained. Thanks.
@billshowto you are a STAR mate. I'm currently doing a skirting board and architrave job and today house owner asked me for put new coving on 2 sitting rooms and dining room and i said yes to them as i never did coving in my life. I opened up the CZcams and searched easiest way to cut angles of coving luckily your video came front of me while scrolling videos you made me perfect coving fitter you explained each and every single thing which is very useful for me thanks a lot bro
You’re very welcome👍👍👍
This is gold Bill, and the only thing I have not yet got my head around. Thank you.
It drives most people crazy at first 👍👍👍
Fantastic mate! Shukran!
Lol👍
Well done Bill, a simple turn to the left or right rather than a jump to the left and then a step to the right that would always inevitably lead me to time warp the cornice and my mind. Another great tutorial that clearly shows the steps involved in creating those different cuts.
That was brilliant, the first mistake I made was to assume the 90mm when fitted into the mitre box was the opposite of where it should have been on the internal steps. The second was I didn't flip it.
Thank you Very Much Bill.
You’re welcome 👍
Thank you for sharing
Like from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Thanks Bill for your expertise. I’ve been there and struggled with that, especially the outside corner (that I botched). Wish I had your video to guide me then. Cheers.
Lol there’s always next time 👍
Perfect timing Bill, I have a small job I've been putting off that runs up to an end & I had no idea how to finish it but now I can make a little return. Thanks mate.
You will be impressed 👍👍👍
Thanks Bill, you have made it look easy. I’ve got a small job and your video has helped me immensely.
You’re welcome 👍
Terrific video thanks
Excellent tutorial, thanks very much.
I did some cornice a few years ago but could not find much info on how to do it. Took forever as my brain had a lot of trouble putting all of the 3d requirements together on how to get the cut edges to meet. Also had a regular mitre box, did not know there was a special one. Thanks for the vid - makes much more sense now.
One of best tutorials for coving installation..you da man billz!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks Bill, I started out without watching any videos and got frustrated very quickly making the wrong cuts. This video is a life saver and made all the cuts so much simpler!
Just about to do my house but not put any coving up for 20 years great refresher video for me no one else seems to go into cuts and corners thanks mate 🤜🤛
👍👍👍
Your videos are always exactly what I need, Bill. I'm doing 50's style 5-step timber cornice in a couple of rooms to mimic the original plaster. As you'll know, that stuff is expensive and I've buggered up regular 90mm cornice before by cutting it in that same mitre block but from the top side. Luckily for a room it's just 4 internal corners and you've been an awesome help with this video!
Definitely expensive and I would be measuring 10 times before cutting. Hopefully it works out for you👍
@@billshowto Thanks Bill. I definitely will measure several times and even use short offcuts to mock up the joints to make sure I don't stuff it.
Really appreciate mate, thank you
I never comment. This has just saved my sanity. Thank you so much!
You’re very welcome 👍👍👍
Great video,

This is gold Bill
Thank you for the video. Instructions are very clear.
You’re welcome 👍
This is by far the best video I've seen, your explanation is so perfect that the process sticks in mind without confusion. Other vids I've watched don't cover it as technical as you have. Got to fix coving in kitchen tomorrow, and finding your video has been a blessing mate 🙂
You’re very welcome 👍👍👍
well done and well explained Bill - I think I understand it all - and I am definitely saving this video! but gee you wouldn't want to be doing cornice work after a night on the beers!
Glad it was helpful 👍
Exellent. Thank you
Bloody champion mate❤❤❤❤❤

Thankyou thankyou thankyou 🙏finally worked out corners ...could not get my head round this... wasted so much time, money, patience and filler 😂 it all makes sense...great to tutorial
Thank you for takin time & effort to do this tutorial video.. Much appreciated you are a star⭐⭐⭐ 🙏
You’re welcome 👍
Just a quick question please.. Is it any different if you flip the coving clockwise or anti clockwise as i have noticed that when its a left side angle you flip it anti clockwise & when it is a right angle the flip would be a clockwise im i right in that or ots not making any difference 🙄thanks again for your help.. God bless
Very well explained, watched several videos and this is the best! Thank you.
best video on yourtube on this subject.
Great job
Absolutely top notch video 👍

Thank you so much for this video. It’s really helped me understand. 🙂
by far the best and most clear video on doing these i been doing some diy and watching vids ect been going good but for some reason even after seeing the vids my mind keeps finding this hard to execute
You’re welcome 👍
Informative and awesome as always. I've had to do this once without the aid of your video and the flip got me a few times, but I got there in the end, and boy does the cornice cement set fast ;) Thanks Bill! always a pleasure to watch.
Lol this video will make people’s jobs much easier…… hopefully 👍

Question, how do you hold up the coving to set on a brick wall with only one person??learnt sooo much from this video thanks for such a comprehensive articulate explanation.
Dang man, just found your channel and its awesome.
This was really in depth, im handy, but definitely no plasterer, since watching this, i reckon i could do my cornices.
Might take me a while, but reckon i can!!
thanks Bill excellent
Mate, big thanks for posting this video!!!
Brilliant !!! Thank you ! 🤗
👍
This is brilliant Bilal
Yes 1. cracks between two pieces- is this jist normal/paint issue, and 2. how to fix the cornices coming off from the top- how to fix? Gyprock?
👍👍👍
Bro, big thanks , just this morning tried as before foe these cutting but was missing flipping 😅
Well done
to be too stupid now to make a mistake when cutting the coving, you explained very well. thank you
well done great video
Any tips for when the previous owner put the cornices on painted surfaces and now they're starting to come off. How best to prep a painted surface? Thanks mate awesome video very informative!!!
To get a line to work to?....
For 55mm cove measure down from the ceiling, on the wall, 55mm and make a pencil mark on your inner and external corners.
74mm for 75mm cove
90mm for 90mm cove.
For pieces longer than about 2.5mtrs?... a mark in the middle is a handy guide.
For pieces longer than about 3.5mtrs?... you can drop a couple'a'screws in the wall at your marks. That gives you something to aim at and will hold it in place while you manipulate it into position.
Actually, I found videos for cutting cornice some years ago when I was finishing my house. The most difficult for me was the corners where I had to allow for the raked ceiling😅. Boy was that fun. Anyway, I would recommend for DIYers get yourself some styrofoam moulded cornice. So much easier to handle than the plaster stuff.
Bloody legend.
You are a lifesaver!! No - one I have asked, in general DIY stores, has had any idea what I meant when asking about cornice corner tools. I've bought and returned three different boxes or curved plastic moulds purporting to be for coving, and not one friend of mine knew how to do it either. I've been trying to work out how to make the cut with a bevel, and just driving myself crazy. Does the box you use work for different profiles? The one I'm using is Ogee. Thanks again for putting out the only video that explains everything in detail. Cheers!
The box takes any profile that fits in the box 👍
The most clear demonstration that I've ever seen. Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
I'm also wondering if the cornice size is bigger than 90! Would you use a mitre saw?
This is when bill asks bob to hold his non alcoholic beer
😂
Lol 👍👍👍
Were you at Northmead Maccas drive through Friday arvo?! I swear you were in front of me 😂😂 Keep the vids coming mate 🔨
Lol wasn’t me 👍👍👍
hey Bill that video was the best tutorial I've come across regarding cornice installation. However i have one question.
How do you get tight internal mitres when you have walls and ceilings that are not square?
Hi mate, awesome video! I'm in the UK and am struggling to find a cornice mitre box at the correct size. Can i use a standard mitre box if it's the right size for the specific coving i'm using? Thanks
Awesome video. So for really long pieces, where would you drop the screws in?
brilliant, really well explaind best coving video on youtube
You’re welcome 👍
Thanks so much. I watched your vid before getting the courage to attempt the cornice work in my kitchen reno. Thanks to your help it looks awesome! One question.. the 135 degree slots in your mitre box do not extend all the way to the base. On the mitre box I got none of them do. Is this normal? I sawed them to the base so I could cut the whole piece. Am I missing something?
Hi, that’s how they come from factory. You did the right thing to cut all the way down to the base and it should work fine now👍.
hi bill looking to instal a pull out tap for my kitchen sink have you done one before or possible to make a video in the near future? cheers mate
Most pull out taps are exactly the same installation as a regular mixer tap. The main difference will be adjust the weight on the hose to hold its position best. 👍
@@billshowto thanks heaps mate i’ll give it a crack, legend 👌🏻
tjanx mate tried it today was frustrating not sure if I'm doing something wrong never done it before so for internal and external cuts it's the same thing just flipped
👍
hay bro I think.im.doing something wrong hahjaa I keep.getting external angels what am I doing wrong
