Watched 4 videos before I found this one. Could've saved myself half an hour if I found this first! Very helpful. Thanks!
Thanks. Glad to be helpful.
I wish I had seen this video 5 years ago when I installed my crown molding, it would have made the job a lot easier.
Great video.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your comment.
I WISH I SAW THIS VISEO 1,000 BOARD FEET AGO
What a great detailed video, good job on molding and video!
Thanks for the compliment.
One of the best videos teaching how to cut crown molding. Thank you!
Thanks for the compliment.
Yet straight to the point i didn’t see and explanation how you placed the crown on the miter what side for which ( left or right ) , from which point to what point you measure the molding ! That’s where the struggle is ...besides that thanks for sharing
Sorry.
Limited time.
Mr,jordan,,,thanks for this vid,I used this on my new job,just starting,you showed me just what I needed!simple,to the point,can't wait to have a nail gun!old school😐..also how to glue and clean up!!!!a plus...land o ' lakes,wi.usa.
Thanks Patrick! Good luck on your project.
Very good tutorial and simple explanation. I was sharing this with one of my helpers to help better explain the concepts of setting crown and how measurement increases are very important so you don’t burn material by 1/8” or 1/4” trying to get a fit inside corner/outside. 👍🏻
Good call.
What type of glue are you using
Nice.... Thanks for this one. Been dying to attempt my victorian coving.
Agreed. You make it look easy and uncomplicated, the opposite of what it is. That's a skill.
Thanks, years of repetition.
Great video! My husband found this very useful. Thanks!
Thanks
Great Video, gonna get this for my husband for sure
Thanks!
#1 you are very informative. #2 great detail #3 I had long hair for Years. Ponytails men & women. Buns...female ballet dancing.

Make it look so easy, this guy is a pro and is very skilled👍
Thanks, I do it for a living.
Thought I was gonna be surfing videos for hours but your video had me back working quick. Thank you for being competent, clear and concise! One thing I will say though is there IS one person who wants to be called stumpy….Stumpy Nubs Woodworking channel 😉
I love Stumpy Nubs!
Thanks for the compliment.
Finally a video on crown I understand. I was so confused about turning crown inside down before cutting. Thank you. Can you share what glue your used? Thanks
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
Thanks for your positive comment.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I learned a lot of tricks
Thanks for your compliment.
Great advice! I learned a lot!
Jordan, Great video explaining how easy this protractor is to use and how accurate it can be. Well worth the $20+ and it is so compact for storage. Works simply with the T-bevel you likely already have. Your instructions on applying latex caulking to all joints and surfaces before installing the molding to ceiling and wall was so helpful to successful completing our room. When installing long pieces it is like a 3rd hand holding the molding in place while you position and nail. Super suggestion and a great help to ensure the piece is permanently held in place.
Barton thanks for the compliment.
Merry Christmas
Thank you for your positive feedback. It's so great to hear success stories and how Sawset and our videos have helped you improve your carpentry skills. That's our goal!
You made it look so easy.. impressive detailing
Thanks Sassy.
Your skill is impressive. Thanks for the video. I bought the Kregs jig today. And all of the videos say to cut it top down. They left me wondering what the hell is the top and what is the bottom. Hopefully mine turns out looking like this. I bought about 40' extra just to practice with.
Thanks for the tip.
Thank You for the video. It was Very Informative! You made it look EASY!
Thanks Ben for the Compliment.
You make it look so easy but at the end it’s beautiful

Great Tip Nice Work...
Awesome Tool. 👍
Thanks for you input!
Im a fine woodworking carpenter by trade for the past 20 years, lots of good tips on this video, how ever, the ceiling you were working with was exceptionally good, most of what we come across is much worse with being off level and bade bumps / dips in the ceiling. it can get much more complicated at times.
You are right Rick.
I have done a lot of old homes and plastered homes are the worst.
I'm retired now, and that's my son on the video.
Thanks for the comment.
Your how to videos are the best we’ve seen as far as clear precise descriptions and make us feel like we can tackle it ourselves so thank you. Do you mind sharing under your descriptions, what wood glue you use as well as name of seem and hole filler please? This would help eliminate the guess work when we need to purchase.
Another note if you don’t mind, what model and where to purchase the mitre saw you are using and what the actual brackets you use to hold crown moulding in place on the saw table?
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
We use drywall compound to fill holes.
@@paulinemonastero322 Any miter saws with a 12 inch blade is good.
Each brand will have there own crown stop.

Hey great video thanks for taking the time too teach us all how too do this . Question what size nails are you hitting that crown molding with ? Also what type of glue are you using ? Thx
2 in. 18 ga. Brad nails, trying to hit the studs when I can.
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
Great Job in providing nice tips and tricks, I got answer to my questions
Thank you
Thank, My pleasure.
Nice video. I agree I pays of to measure corners beforehand. Just like to add that in my experience there's no need for a nail gun if using an appropriate glue. Although i use type of quick glue for the corners, wich means they stay in place, if the corner glue is slow acting ther is possibility of them moving out of place.
Food for thought!
Anil Podgornik I have never used nails in this way either. I only use them as supports underneath go stop long runs sagging, and then only if needed. Of course they get removed afterwards.
Took ages to find a decent video like this. Thanks.
Hi to the UK. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad the video was helpful.
Great job!!

Great video,,
Thanks for the compliment.
Caulking nail holes okay yea ya do it once in awhile ,best is quick dry Spackle goes in like butter and it’s sandable ,
You are right.
Thanks for your comment
And no glue on bottom of crown...brads only...want to be professional...
Nice job
Thanks Carmelo
Very good work tanks
Thanks for watching!
Nice video thanks for sharing. Can I only use glue my wall are plaster and I think it hard for those nailer
Plaster fractures when nailing.
I recommend you nail to the studs.
Very good , informative , !!
Thanks Bob
Great video💪🏽💪🏽
Glad you liked it!!
Great vid. What style, material, and how and size is the molding you are showing in the video?
We use a 5.5 inch wooden Georgian style.
i do returns in a 3 piece joint,with saw at 22.5 degrees,and i use CA glue with an activator,looks a lot better than a 90 degree return
I like that look.
Will try it sometime.
Thanks
I do mine same way. I did the 45° returns for so long and seeing the same thing in every house..i wanted a different look.
@@billzima7068 I will definitely try it next time.
Thanks
Most silicon caulking's are NOT paintable. Be careful paint will not stick.
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
Nail hole tip ; use drywall putty, you can sand it lightly or wet cloth when it’s close to dry. I find caulking doesn’t fill that great, but that’s just me.
You are right.
Dryway compound is the best way.
My mistake.
good video, thanks
Thanks for the compliment.
what size nail gun were you using? great job on the video! i'll keep coming back!
18 Gage brad nails x 2 inch.
I like your video .
Thanks for your positive comment.
great tips thanks. looks like a small brad nailer, what guage/ length are you using and are you nailing into studs/ joists?
Hi Matt,
Good questions.
I used 18 Ga. x 2. (16 GA makes the perimeter of holes stick up)
You try to hit the wood when you can.
When gluing is done right, it gives a lot of support to the wood crown. (Keep in mind plaster crown moulding is neither nailed or screwed, yet it stays up.)
Question. Can you install crown mouldings over walls and ceilings that have wallpaper on? or do you have to cut the paper away first ?
Yes, remove wallpaper and wash off glue residue.
Need a cushion on that gun. I would highly recommend not caulking nail holes. Use a filler that wont shrink. I use a product i think from DAP but we push it in really good then just little on the heavy side. The filler is super lightweight and can really be sanded by hand. But we just run around tje room with a sanding sponge..it only takes a few minutes and it smooths out any of the crap primer job, the over fill of filler we applied and makes splices and outside corners flawless. Also dead end returns we use CA glue and put it together on the bench b4 it goes up. Blocking, splices and outside corners use wood glue!! Inside corner we cope and then apply a small bead of caulking with adhesion b4 fitting together. Keep everything clean as you go. I like having a wet sponge with me but only to keep my finger clean and moist to slick over the caulking. Crown molding is one of them things where it can be tough in the beginning but when that lightbulb goes off in your head and you totally understand it ..it then becomes as easy as installing baseboards. Very nice angle finder..with that and a bevel gauge you are guaranteed a beautiful outcome. Happy building all!!:)
You are right.
Thanks for the helpful tips.
What to do when the ceiling is not even, and the crown moulding titer totters? Which stud finder do you recommend. Need a reliable one
What's are your thoughts MDF and non-MDF crown moldings material?
Wood does a one time minor shrinkage, because of moister content in the wood.
I use MDF, because doesn't shrinkage.
Recommend oil prime before painting wood or MDF.
This keeps moister away from wood.
Nice work bro and tips thanks keep it up lm smashing my like botton katakabooooooooooooom
Thanks. Love that expression.
I really need a sawset tool
You can order it from our website... sawset.ca
Cicrular saws are limited.. You can only cut 7-10cm in heights, so when you come upon cornice mouldings that are bigger it is useless. There are hand saw kit for bigger mouldings. Simple ones for - 45 90 +45 degrees and also adjustable ones... For small or flat ones circular saw is much faster though...
Sawset tools I can't find any web site where they ship this tool to Ireland or UK can you please help me
Nice
Thanks
Any suggestions for a glue brand that would comparable to Lepage that is available in the US? Picked up Loctite All Purpose but it comes out as a foam and is very awkward to use.
Sorry, being in Canada not familiar with your product brands.
Any product that are water based and paintable would be great.
Would you please come to my house and install my crown? Amazing work !
What type of glue do you recommend for installing crown mouldings?
We have always used a water base glue, such as Lepage No More Nails.
You have any crown molding holder for the one person installation?
When I'm alone I brad nail or screw a 2 by 4 in the corner for a temporary support.
Hello,
Love the video. About to start a crown moulding install. The previous owner didn’t want to finish the crown, and stopped with a flush cut on an inside corner 3:10 3:10 . I understand it’s best to use a coping saw, but how do I cut the moulding and get it to matchup? Thank you
I know the traditional way is to cope, but mitering is the best way, because the 2 moldings lock each other in place. If the existing crown is not glued down, I would remove it and miter. Mitered corners are also crisper.
Sawset makes the most accurate joints,I've used all the other gauges and none are as good
Thanks for your comment. Accuracy is what we strive for.
@@SawsetTools my clients are amazed at how tight my baseboards turn out even without any caulking
@@dmlvsccfamful I was a contractor and my son still is.
Praise from a customer is always good.
Have a great day.
the video is wonderful. very good instructions. have a great success
Thank you!
Is the caulking material made specific for MDF glueing?
I don't believe there is a calking for MDF.
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
I use a cordless drill, with a fine bit to find studs.
You're Hired ! Ty for the video.
Thanks for the positive comment.
Hi I live in Arizona do you travel this way..?
Hmmm?
I have 4 1/4 crown, will that Dewalt jig work for that size as well?
Dewalt Jig is fully adjustable for a 4 1/4 crown.
Can you show how to install crown molding on a sloped ceiling?
Yes, if I run into that type of job.
I always cut crown holding the crown flat on my chop saw.
See our other video.
(How to Cut Crown Molding ON THE FLAT using Sawset Protractor.)
I do too. Most accurate way to do it
Don't forget to tell them to turn molding upside down to cut
Good point.
What brand glue are you using ?
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
How about a short video on what to look for in a miter saw and other critical tools?!
Something to think about. Thanks
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Nice to hear.
👌💪👌
What type of glue do you use
We use Lepage No More Nails for gluing, and Dap WATER base calking for the final part.
But any WATER base glue that comes in a calking tube works.
What brand caulk do you use to fill the nail holes?
Drywall compound is the best to fill holes, then sand flush when dry.
The caulk being used in the video is Top Gun 250 Fast Dry Sealant by PPG. But I, too, use joint compound almost exclusively for nail holes.
Great video. You might indicate which "glue" you are using.
Hi Rod, We use La-page No More Nails.
Any dense glue would work.
Very good thans
Thanks again.
when you nail straight to the drywall ...always nail at an angle so the nails cant pull out
Good call.
That doesn’t do shit. In time along with expansion and contraction it will pull away from the ceiling and wall. Test it with time and let me know the outcome.
Wow! If you know, you know
Thanks
Easy peasy. Ya right!!
Eric, patients is the key.
