“Really are spineless” whoever came up with that one deserves the rest of the day off.
Agreed 😂
My guess is someone came up with that exact joke - real book calls audio book spineless - and it evolved from there. Had to pause and comment because I couldn't stop laughing. Now I must rewind to see the three jokes I missed while doing so.
That was the best one
Definitely the best joke of a classic sketch.
I'm going to be laughing at the start of every audiobook now - "Spineless!"
Pile of books in the corner: “We are the Unreads, our time will come”
Ah but will it? 😂
I laugh as I look at my full shelf of Unreads 🥲
@@zeybarur They're always there, watching, waiting...

Genius
Academic textbook: “I have so much potential but I cost a fortune and have never been read properly!”
OMG, they'll be kicking themselves that they didn't use this one! 😀
Academic textbook author: "So it retails at $200 and I get.....how many cents?"
Mussed hair and yellow streaks all over I can picture it already.
@@bernadinesavarin I think it’s a joke that would only work in America!
If they were only wrote properly, unless you were leaning just from the book they usually start being useful from ch 6
The Science Fiction book went to this party in another timeline, in a parallel universe, with a teletransportation device.
Que the Doctor Who theme music 🎶
And gets into an argument with Fantasy over what makes them different
You think we invited That nerd?
(It's like my 2nd favorite genre 😅)
@@omarrodrigomanzanares7474fantasy is colonialist wars but with elves vs orcs. Scifi is when a math equation justifies the genocide of a whole system.
Fantasy is dragons, wizards and magical rings and everyone randomly dressed in medieval fashion. Science fiction is tomorrow's science, either idealist or distopian. (I'm a trekkie. SciFi rules.)
Dictionary and Thesaurus turn up and bump into a crosswords book. He would say 'I wonder could I have a word with you two' ... Dictionary could say 'what do you mean'? and then Theasarus could clarify by replying 'conversation, talk, chitchat, consultation, discussion ...... and fade away.
Yes, very good
😂
Of course Thesaurus should repeat anything Dictionionary says, just using a different word.
😊
"SEIZE HIM!!!!" 😂 He couldn't just say "Get him" cos he's a fantasy novel. Very good!
I have a few takes of Fantasy yelling "the scoundrel" and "there's the rascal"

They should be with crime novels. You left out loads of genres. Clearly time for another party 🎉 🎉
I was half expecting Hog to show up as 'Graphic Novel' and look identical to 'Comic' but receive way more respect. While 'Comic' complains about how they are exactly the same.
😆👍
Except they are not exactly the same. But they could argue about the differences.
Except for the price.
Part 2!!!
Manga flips between being 4k quality and a goofy chibi and narrates everything he does like he's calling out attack names.
Manhwa shows up and everyone just thinks he's manga.
"I feel like people don't respect me"
"Well-observed"
That hits so subtly.
But so, so hard when it does click 🤣
Ouch!!
i don't get it
@@shajiaalianwar9399 Self-Help saying that means that Self-Help agrees that people don't respect Comic Book.
@@shajiaalianwar9399 one meaning: self-help is saying comic's comment is a good insight.
2nd meaning: pictures get looled at (observed).
Dictionary getting drunk: "People only care about me when they want to know what someone else said"
Manual next to him: "I want to help, but everyone thinks they don't need me"
Dictionary comes in: "I have all the answers!"
He'd never shut up 😂
I know what you mean
Nah, that'd be the encyclopedia. The dictionary would say: "Let's party! _A suggestion that you and other people have a social gathering._ "

poor second hand book feels used. 🥺
We prefer to say: pre loved 😘
But does that make them feel better miri, DOES IT?
I checked my shelves and realized that while I sometimes buy new books on a whim, every single secondhand book I own was carefully curated and is an absolute treasure to me.
Let's be Frank. The're lightly to have been around a bit. 😂
It’s a pleasure to read textbooks and classical literature with Phallus drawing and highlighting and notes scribbled in the margins by some lunatic college students and others who were in a hurry to read the book and then sell them off for rent money at the end of semester 🤓😢😢😢!

The bookworm and writer in me are squealing with delight. I love all the details and clever puns in this one, short story being smaller than the others, the flip book, the barcode and stamps on library, diary's costume. I could go on and on. Have a wonderful day!
I knoooow, they're always so ridiculously good
The short short story is a neat one. You are right, the details are brilliant.
‘I feel used’ cracked me up!
Brilliant!
😊
Now we just wait "Books throw a party: Second edition"
YES, please! One could be compiled purely out of the comments below here :D
Foil deserves an oscar for the portrayal of the flip book 😂
And throw every other role in there while you're at it.
Magazine tried to sneak into the party, but it was stopped at the door. After a brief discussion where it made its case, showing many pictures, it gave up and left.
It ended up going to the pub, where it comiserated while talking to its cousin Newspaper, who had also been refused entrance.
Well, Newspaper has been spending a lot more time online, and it's friends have had trouble reaching them because they've already visited too many times without subscribing this month.
Paperback: "Sure I'm cheap and I'm fragile but, Darling, I'm an exquisite travel companion."
I'll never again think of a "dust jacket" in the same way 🤣
Esp those crinkley ones with all the layers and the glue tape.
Do the yellow pages get a yellow jacket?
Textbook to Used Book: "At least you've been read. I've hardly been opened!"

Nonsense poetry book: “Graberee my Swishtrophane”
**Dictionary glares at them disgusted**
*Fantasy, and baby name book enter the room.
Old thematic of joke from Black Adder 3rd season, but it would be pretty cool if it was something like that in the video.
Perfect imitation of a flip book. Well done.
Cheers!
Clever way of keeping flipbook in vision as well. To place him behind cook book and classics, with cook book stepping closer to classics (to show him a spot on his pages) so flipbook can finish the flipping in full view. 🙂
OMG as a book lover I can’t tell you how much I appreciated this sketch! The spineless joke and second hand book feeling used were total classics (pun intended)!

In Germany I saw "Women's Literature", so I always go ask the saleswoman (for some reason it's always a woman): "Where's the Men's Literature ?". She always answers "Self-Help"? Actually pretty accurate.
That's brilliant.
So painful. Brings back bad memories. I am a girl above 60. When I was a child, municipal librairies had books for girls and books for boys. I had to make a scene in the library so I could read Zorro and the 3 Musqueteers. They were not for girls!

FOIL'S FLIP BOOK IN THE BACKGROUND AHAHA 😂😂 Had to pause & rewatch it 😂😂
Saaame, there's too much in this video for one watch 🤣
He said it was exhausting to do!
I clicked so fast when i saw this. I absolutely LOVE the ‘throw a party’ videos. So cleverly written and performed.
‘You really are spineless’…….lol lol. And the Self Help Book with the poor, disheveled second hand book……’I feel so USED’. 😅 So funny and clever. 😅
The use of Comic Sans for the JOKE BOOK is brilliant 🤣 And I appreciate the COMIC BOOK having comic book style font as well. You guys keep one upping yourself sketch after sketch!!
What a treat for us book nerds! Second hand book shops are such a treasure box.. you think you just drop by and find yourself digging through the piles for hours..
Oh absolutely. On tour days in cities I often go there
@@foilarmsandhog You must have loved Tallinn then, the density of book shops per square meter in Old town amazed us, some of them being just two block away from the venue you played.
@foilarmsandhog That's so cool - what a great way to spend some time in a new city! I'm a pretty passionate thrift store shopper (aka treasure hunter!) so when I travel, I'll often try to find one. In addition to clothes that are somewhat different from what I'd find at home, can also often find souvenirs from that area for cheap - like Disney t-shirts and knick-knacks while shopping in Florida, Eiffel tower stuff in France, etc. Sports stuff from the local teams is pretty much a guarantee, for way less than you'd pay at the stadium- and sometimes they're real vintage items!
I now want to observe my bookshelves when I'm not there to see if they're having parties without me! 😂
Arms, how did it feel looking up at the other two for once? 😂
Interesting casting indeed 😂
It was truly humbling
Also did it in the Brexit video (why are mummy & daddy fightin'?)

We attended your show in Zurich last month. BEST comedy show I've ever been to in my entire life - not a single dull moment, not a single awkward joke, FANTASTIC crowd work. I was so happy we were there, especially when we happened to be in Edinburgh only 2 weeks before the Fringe in 2022 and therefore missed your show.
Hopefully we'll be able to attend more of your shows.
Thanks we really had a good time in Zurich, I loved trying out my swiss german!
I love your review and couldn't agree more!

That’s it now. You’ve teased the electronics party, now you have to deliver.
"You really are spineless" was too funny, came entirely out of the blue! :D

Ahahaha, good point with a cookbook - if it isn't filthy, it's not actually being used 😂😂 I was just telling the other day that I kept my grandma's cookbook from 1951, the pages with sweet recipes are almost torn out and covered in lot of stains - because my grandmother sweared the recipes from that cookbook were the best, and only those were prepared for celebrations 😅
My late Mum used have a book that some nuns gave her when she was expecting me, that I think was published in the '30's. It was perfect for the resourceful housewife (definitely, _wife_ ), with chapters like 'invalid cooking' and so on, but it was definitely of another age. A pre~CJD age, for sure... Probably had a chapter called "Beef or Pork - which gelatin for pastry making..." Definitely your go~to if you're into foods like braun, drisheen, or calfsfoot jelly. I'm making myself queesy just thinking about it! Perhaps a sausage sandwich will settle my stomach...
@richiehoyt8487 Mine too has advice, like how to cook milk, what a housewife needs to do if it boils over, how to make soap from animal fat, ....
A testimony of how people lived back in the time 😊
@@korky0104 Oh God! My mother was always boiling the milk over, and of course our cooker was one of those ones where the rings were these spiral coils so the milk could get all down in the workings! 🫢 There's plenty things I've smelt since that are a lot worse, but burnt milk sure makes a stench you don't forget in a hurry. At least we didn't have one of those finicky gas cookers! (Though at least with gas you've _some_ chance of catching it. Milk is one of those treacherous substances that are like the theory of cosmic inflation... It waits for the very moment you take your eyes off it and expands to a gajillion times its original volume in the blink of an eye!)
Soap making though! Wow! Could it _get_ more old school?! (Or more up~to~date, maybe, with the trend for these artisanal, 'hipster' soaps...) Shouldn't be surprised if that was the book Mrs. Beaton was using before she wrote her own! I wouldn't be that surprised if it told you how to slaughter, dress out and butcher the animal as well!
Things really _were_ 'real' back in them days, though, wha'? Back around the time of the Millennium, I was living on this fairly obscure island on the West coast where there were people who, if they didn't do this themselves, they certainly would remember their parents going for supplies... flour, animal feed, etc. - on foot; they would wait for the low spring tide, wade out to this neighbouring island, hike across the bogs there to the far shore, wade from there to the mainland, and from there overland, 10 or 15 miles to the nearest village... And then, the same thing in reverse, with heavy sacks on their back. 2 day job, sleeping out in the elements. Ah Sure, we don't know were born! Ayup, grand stretch in the evenings... Ah yeah, that's that bug that's going around... 😉
Sorry, came over all "In me fadder's time -- " there! Maybe "Ireland's Own" could do something with it...
When my siblings and I were either out on our own, or shortly expected to leave the nest, my mom ordered new editions of her 2 favourite cookbooks for us - the Five Roses cookbook (a brand of flour) for baking all the bread, cookies, etc you could ever want, and the More with Less cookbook also for baking but also everything else (mostly simple and cost effective recipes, contributed by Mennonite missionaries, with sweet little vignettes and reflections about living lightly on the earth).
I think they're both still all of our favourite cookbooks - a few more have been added to the favourites section in the 30 years since then, but I still reach for those two the most often!
The dirtiest pages are the best recipes. Because they stayed open while cooking the most. 😊
"Wear a dust jacket?" What could you possibly mean?
Best advert for Edinburgh and a real tonic every Thursday morning.
Keep em coming.
Thanks Thomas!
Perfection! Instant classic.
There's so much potential for jokes about other genres of books, I think a sequel is needed! Book Party, Volume 2!
You could include children's books; textbooks; dictionary, thesaurus, and/or encyclopedia; books of poetry; romance; mystery; horror... Manual from the "Wordplay Car Dealership" could reappear! History and Historical Fiction could have an argument! Pop-up Book could pop up like Anne McCormack... And there's no telling what Science Fiction could do!
And Dictionary and Thesaurus, who nobody consults anymore! Plus the Magazine and Newspaper, who are not allowed to join the party!
ThE FLIP BOOK HAD ME CRACKING UP!!! That was so well executed also by Foil!!
Another absolutely brilliant sketch guys, had me laughing from page one..A toad is a librarian, a Frog comes up to the counter, Toad says… book book? The Frog goes… Redit, Redit! Classic jokes are the best 👍
I used to volunteer in a used book store, I just loved this skit. Second-hand is so spot on. "I feel used," had me in the feels.
A fantastic, hilarious sketch (like so many of the Party sketches)! So many highlights: Flipbook's jittery motion; Diary's secretiveness; Secondhand and Library Books discussing how many have loved them (and the necessity of 'protection'); Comic Book and Audiobook being unappreciated in the literary world; the stereotypes of Classic and Young Adult literature.... 🤣
Foil being the flip book😂

Once again Foil steals the show with a blink and you'll miss him character Flip Book. But my favourite joke has to be "well I hope you used a dust jacket".
Not just a dust jacket, a plastic covered dust jacket (very safe), said the Librarian (me)

Loved short story and young adult vs classics and no one daring to joke about the holy books
And audio book being spineless is the best pun!
Not daring? I thought the joke was that nobody reads them, so nobody knows enough about them to make a joke.
Series books, mysteries, thrillers, picture books, sci-fi -the possibilities go on and on!

Kindle would be kicked out and told to go to electronics, but yes, we need a part 2 with the stuff you mentioned.
