Chuck Berry was a pioneer in Rock music. His personality plus his musianship made him hugely popular with young white audiences in the late 1950s and early 60s. Little Richard and Chuck brought a level of excitement to their performances that was lacking with the white performers at the time. There wouldn't have been rock and roll without him. Young white performers like Buddy Holley quickly followed and their music is still inspiring today.

This is true, but it wasn't a good thing. When he first started in the 50s he had the legendary Johnnie Johnson on piano and "Way Out" Willie Dixon on bass. They were fantastic musicians that greatly contributed to how good his music was. When he played with those local bands they could never match the original band so his live shows were never as good. I say that as a HUGE Chuck fan. I've was lucky enough to see him play live many times. One of those times was with Johnnie and I can't even begin to tell you what a difference it made.

One of the kings, imo there were 3 and all had an important part to play in the progression of Rock and Roll. Yes, Chuck's incredible guitar riffs were a crucial element, and LR on piano was a force, both may have been making some noise, rocking earlier, but they weren't able to take RnR to the masses, it was the Memphis King with his Rhythm guitar, 3 man band, amazing voice, charisma and energy who created the almighty explosion that changed the anodyne mainstream music landscape forever, opening the doors in the process for other great rocking artists to follow. Without him, R'n'R would likely have continued to be stifled out until it faded because white older generations did not want it to take off. All three were hugely talented, brilliant performers, pioneers, and integrators of the music genre!

I saw Chuck Berry Live in 1975. Honest to God, the best concert I have ever seen and I have seen a TON of concerts. I'll never forget when he first came on stage. I was at the very front and could rest my elbows on it. Someone near me held up a bong pipe. Chuck went right up to it and the dude blew him a super charge. I mean this was happening a couple of feet away from me. Chuck held the smoke in, went back to the microphone, blew out a big cloud, and proceeded to tear up that guitar. What makes him so different than everyone else? No fuzz or distortion. Every note from his guitar is crystal clear and precise. No chance to hide a mistake and he made none. I have seen Eddie Van Halen, KK Downing, Joe Walsh, Slash, and Ted Nugent play live guitar. Chuck's live performance is right up there with the best of them.
And yes....he played Jonny B Goode. As well as Brown Eyed Handsome Man, Maybelline, Reelin and Rockin (just freakin awesome live), and My Ding a Ling. Not just a musician. A hilarious comedian and hugely talented entertainer. A complete show.

Johnny was named for his piano player Johnnie Johnson and Chuck was born and lived on Goode Ave in St Louis. Country boy was used instead of then used term colored boy. He was not only a pioneer and incredible performer and guitarist but songwriter as well. All of his songs have snippet of his real life in them.

Chuck is one of the early legends who inspired rock and roll - Beatles, rolling stones, all learned from his playing and showmanship. He's famous for those moves. 👍😉 The early days. Love your sensitivity and genuine reaction as always 💕 he did sing Rudolph!

Johnny B. Goode is one of 27 musical pieces sent into interstellar space on the Voyager spacecraft's Golden Record in 1977 by NASA. After more than 40 years the spacecraft is now out of the solar system. Other composers and artists represented on the record include Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky. In 1978 Saturday Night Live presented a farcical skit in which extraterrestrials had found the spacecraft with its record and responded with the message "Send more Chuck Berry!"

I love Chuck Berry. Happy Rock & Roll. That he can play guitar while doing a split is incredible. He was married to his wife Themetta for 69 years of his 90. She’s still alive.

The first guitar hero. Wrote the songs and played them. Great showmanship, he wrote songs for teenagers. Influenced all that came after him. He was heavily influenced by blues and jazz. Rock and roll is american music. There is a NASA probe way out in the solar system, on that probe is a recording of the sounds of earth. This song is on that recording.
