  • With a title like "the best-selling vehicle in the world" the Ford F-150, making changes to it can seem like a daunting task for engineers. Thankfully, Ford knows what truck buyers want and the latest 2018 model represents the perfect blend of capability, refinement, luxury, technology, and fuel-efficiency. There is a reason nearly a million American take a new truck home every year.

I'm a Toyota guy, I love toyotas. I looked at a Tundra and was doing all I could to get the dealership to actually deal on the price, no go. Out of frustration I went to test an f150 and had no intention on buying, since I haven't owned an American car in over 30 years buying a Ford was crazy talk. After the test drive I looked at my wife and said this is the nicest vehicle I have ever driven. Talk about comfortable, those captain seats are pure luxury, the 2.7 is really powerful, the cabin is dead quiet, the supercrew is enormous, I mean you could live in it. Needless to say I bought the f150.

Laughed at this. I was the guy that purchased the Toyota without testing the F-150 because, well...why drive anything else?!?!? Dropped by Ford for giggles to just test-drive the 150...and...whoops, I'm the proud owner of a 2018 F-150. I love it. It's essentially a luxary SUV with a bed!! Have kids? You'll love this truck for the super crew space!!

2.7 is probably the best engine I've ever had in a half ton. Not the most peak horse power, obviously. But 400 ft lbs of torque and even though it has 70 hp less than the 5.0 it pulls harder. It pulls way harder than my dad's 5.3 Silverado.
My buddy has a 2018 5.3 Sierra and the 2.7 in my truck will out pull that easily. And has a way faster 0-60. And my F150 2.7 4x4 Screw averages 18mpg where his Sierra 4x4 Screw averages 14.
It's the ideal engine for 90% of truck owners for sure. Ford definitely has it figured out.

Chevy runs in the family blood for me, was in the market for a 2021 Chevy custom, but after the dealer didn’t want to work with me , I took a left on the Ford dealer down the street never ever thinking I would buy one & walked out with one.. not just because they actually helped me, but wen I got inside the truck, it was amazing , had more features than a Chevy and I was sold ..this was 3days ago, here’s to making new Ford memories with my wife and kids 🍻

Im a Toyota guy too, LOVED my Tacoma for being light and reliable. But the dash rattles and horrible transmission made me trade it. My '18 STX is the best looking truck out there IMO, and 4wd Supercab is only 4300lbs. The transmission is a mind reader, skips gears intelligently, lots of drive modes. And the power is crazy, u never have to go over 2,800rpm to haul ass.

I drive about 500 miles a week in Texas 65-90mpg roads so this could be a good truck. I've owned many pickup trucks. My last three have been the Ford F-150. I have never had any reliability issues, I've only done oil changes. I've had Toyota's and they've been in the shop more often! I've driven all from The Big Three and the Ford drives the best. There's no question that Ford is ahead of the game when it comes to full size pickup trucks. That is why RAM and GM are introducing new models. Their current stock cannot compete with the current Ford. As you know, General Motors will now be putting aluminum components on the new GMC Chevy twins. It's simple, the Ford drives better, has better gas mileage, best crash test scores, best towing and payload ( depends how equipped),has more interior space, and a flat rear floor. I just love them and it's going to be hard to get me to switch. It is the number one selling vehicle in North America for a reason!

The 2.7L EcoBoost isn’t a bad thing. It’s actually quicker off the line, has the same 0-60 as the 3.5L and gets incredible mileage. The towing capacity in that configuration is still around 7000lbs (check out The Fast Lane Truck Ike Gauntlet run with this truck, it’s great).
I was dead set on the 3.5L, but after doing more research I decided the 2.7L is actually the far better choice if you don’t plan on towing more than 7000lbs on a regular basis.
I’ve had it for two days and I’m getting around 11l/100k average, and I’ve been having some fun with the throttle.

I have the 2018 3.5L EcoBoost. Based on my experience, I would say go with the 2.7L unless you tow all the time. I love my truck when towing my 30' camper, but when it is empty, it is a little too much. It reminds me of the muscle cars we would build back in high school with a cam too big and gears and a torque converter that don't match. It is hard to drive smoothly. If you drive too lightly, it skips gears and has horrible turbo lag until it takes off like a rocket. You can seriously unintentionally lay rubber at 30 mph when accelerating in city traffic. And if you drive it is sport mode, you will outpace traffic and it kills your gas mileage. The 2.7L is more civilized.

I don't know why people trash trucks. It is always a personal choice. It is preference. You might like the looks of a sierra gmc and you might not. You might like the back seat of a Ford and maybe not. To each his own as they say. As long as you maintain the truck and you like how it looks and behaves...go for it. I hate people who trash one over the other. Everyone has a bad experience to any level in any make. There are Fords who have over 700,000 clicks and also GMCS and CHevs, RAMS, NISSAN, and also Toyotas. Depends how you take care of them. If you have always been a FORD guy then go for it. If you are a TUNDRA fan then go for it. Be kind to each other. Respect what each make offers for the consumer.

Tim's Tool Reviews My local dealer let me take the 5.0 for a couple of hours so I took it home hooked up my 28 ft bhs rv with it and I honestly thought what a dog my 2010 with the 5.4 ltr towed better. The 2.7 ecoboost is now The F150’s best selling engine, because they perform, quiet, strong and economical. No they don’t sound as good as the 5.0, no they won’t tow 12,000 pounds, but for 80% of truck buyers I think this engine is more than enough. The majority of State Troopers, not a easy life, in WV run ecoboost powered Explorers and 300,000, not out of the question for these engines with proper maintenance. So far I love mine, 22,000 mile 0 problems and yes I’d buy the same exact truck again!

Brian Waller check out XL with the STX package. It gives it some really good upgrades. Like 20in wheels, takes away the middle front seat and replaces it with a center console adds the 8in touch screen with sync 3, adds the air vents in the back, bed liner, the grill is also different and look really good, same color front and back bumper as the truck and maybe some more. I actually think it looks better then the XLT. The XLT doesnt even have the center console unless you get the sport package. You get more out of the XL STX then you would get from the XLT for way cheaper. Here is a great video that explains it.

Not saying it’s a better truck than the other brands, but dang so far it’s been one terrific truck. The 5.0, 5.3 and 5.7 V8’s sound better, but at the light the 2.7 will leave them sitting!

I have looked at CZcams videos comparisons of all the motors offered in the F-150. Mechanics prefer the simplicity of the natural 5.0. Heavy haulers tie with the 5.0/3.5 eco boost. The 2.7 eco is the most desired by families for towing up to about 3500 lbs and Fun driving. I am only pulling 2200 lbs so I will choose either the 2.7 or 3.5 bc ecoboost bc apparently they are the most fun to drive.
