    OOHHH Elliott and Sue.
    "When it rains it pours". Regarding cutting the vinyl back, you should be able to get what we call a "transition strip". They are made from either aluminum, wood or fiber board material. Transition strips will hold the raw edges of the vinyl down while creating a neat finished joint. In your case you can screw it down with screws that are provided. B&Q should carry them.
    At least the floor is drying out quickly.

      Thanks Mark!
      We’ve had to cut the flooring all the way along the kitchen lengthways too because the kitchen feet stand on top of the covering so it’s not quite that simple. We’ll get a solution though!

    OMG !! A Narrowboaters worst nightmare. Water in the boat. Where do you think its come from. Is your stern packing all ok. Just a stupid thought, but it happens. Good luck and well done for dealing with it and vlogging at the same time. Your hardened boaters now guys.

    • @NarrowEscape1
      @NarrowEscape1  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It was horrible to see the water but thankfully we latched onto the fact it was super clear and clean so we knew it was from inside the boat rather than canal water!
      A push fit pipe fitting failed and the water pump basically emptied the entire water tank into the inside of the boat 😬😢

  • @richardjensen6753
    @richardjensen6753 Před 4 měsíci +2

    Hello from Kansas! Sorry to see you guys going through this! So where did the water come from? You might invest in a bore scope so you can drill a little inspection hole and then look with the bore scope! Thanks!

    • @NarrowEscape1
      @NarrowEscape1  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi Richard. We did think about a bore scope but there is that little ‘space’ in the sun floor it wouldn’t see anything unfortunately. When we reforged JOSH a year ago we packed the sub floor with thick insulation so there’s hardly anything to ‘see’ in there.

      Nightmare Elliott and Sue.
      The only protection available is to switch off the water pump, open a tap to release pressure when you leave the boat no matter for how long.
      And if you have a break turn the tank tap closed as you would with the gas bottle on board.
      Heart breaking for you both.
      Keep calm and carry on is all you can do as with all of us.
      Best wishes from GHM.

  • @davidsedlickas8222

    HSE briefing.
    Always switch off water pump when leaving the boat.
    This conversation happened only the other day. With no consensus agreement.
    For example belt and braces fitting an expansion tank after the calorifier hot pipe since the tank expansion and contraction might split the seem on the tank.
    Some say no some say yes
    There is no answer.
    Water pump off is only real solution.

    • @NarrowEscape1
      @NarrowEscape1  Před 4 měsíci

      You are right David - switch off the pump is the only real answer to the potential issue and perhaps run the taps with the pump off to drain some water before you nip out but it feels a bit of a faff. Still, we don’t want this again!!!

    • @davidsedlickas8222
      @davidsedlickas8222 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Water works on water are always troublesome for boaters.
      Pipe joints are constantly under vibration pressure from engine running.
      Poor boat design doesn't help either.
      Pipe works are hidden and as I have tried cut out cupboard shelving holes and fitted perspex sheets so you can shine torches in to see if you have trouble brewing.
      There is no perfect solution and we all can only do what we think is best.
      I am pleased that you have the courage and tenacity and strength to overcome the setbacks that occur to you and for that credit is due well done Elliott .
      Keep safe warm dry and virus free.
      Safe journey travels.

    Having read the comments, my question was answered. So basically, you have to fix the leaky fitting, refill the water tank, and dry the entire floor out. Then you have to decide if and when, as well as what, will need to be replaced. This will take a while. On the other hand, ay least it wasn't a leak in the hull. --Dan

    Those dehumidifiers are good but uou need to leave on for 5hrs at least put it onto washing drying mode it will be more intensive ours is great. Sometimes it has hardly any eater to empty after few hours but can be full other times.
