    Never had a single interior creak on my 2017 S5. Id say one of the most common engine issue faults, is still the terrible thermostat units that go into most modern Audis. This is still by far the most common issue that needs to be stated. The rocker arm issue has been massively blown out of proportion with an incredibly small amount reported back out of tens of 1000's of units out their performing just fine.
    Negligent driving will see faults like that before time, ie poor service intervals and revving out super high all the time, before the oil has had chance to come to temps rather than a straight up part issue. Audi/Vw are constantly revising parts on dozens and dozens of areas, so dont always assume a very revised part means the car is about to blow up cos you dont have the 6th or 7th revision. I would say, as an Audi owner who has had many different models, the S5 B9 is about the most solid and reliable ive come across.

      Same. I have just over 118,000 on my 2018 and aside from the roof panel creaking over bad pavement I have no creaks or groans (and to be fair at that mileage I've rarely had a sunroof that didn't need some adjustment or resealing). And Audi does frameless windows correctly. No noise from them at all. I've seen Mustangs that rattle like they have a door full of marbles after six months or a year on the road, and no frameless window Audi I've owned has ever had that problem.
      I change my oil at 5k on all the Audis in the driveway, and since I moved to the 5W30 LM oil I've had not a single issue with, well anything. I've replaced a few seals here and there but I expect that at this mileage, but nothing has been a problem or difficult to do. As it looks like Audi will be discontinuing coupes generally I think I'll just keep this and put a new engine in when it needs it.
      Oh, one more thing....service the transmission! I talked with ZF when I was nearing what I thought would be time, and they said these are absolutely not a lifetime fill, that they need to be serviced about every 60k to 75k miles. It's a bit of a pain in that you need to drop the rear trans mount to get to the rear screws, but it's otherwise straightforward, the usual fill it up and check about 40 degrees C for that little trickle and top up if needed. The old ZF in my C5 allroad 4.2 is 20 years old and still shifts like new.

    Those wheels look delicious when contrasting the body color and lines.... So, when it comes to the Rocker arm failure on the early builds, what I've heard is; If you are concerned? Try using a thicker oil. I know Audi recommends 0-20 but that's just for MPGs. For me? I'd rather save my engine than my MPGs, So I'm going to start using 5w40 from Liqui Moli. I have about 3500 miles left before my next oil change(I usually do them at 5k intervals). In terms of the MMI rebooting itself? Weird, I've never had mine do that.

  • @Steve_with_coffee
    @Steve_with_coffee Před měsícem

    I really think the primary issue with the rockers is both the 0W20 oil from Castrol and probably just a bad batch of improperly hardened bearings. Had my replaced due to a single failure at about 60k and haven't had an issue since, but I'm using 5W30 Liqui Moly.

    A problem I've had is the intake can suck in a good amount of debris. To the point where I can feel a drop in responsiveness in the turbo. Probably not a design flaw, but it's something I keep in mind. Pretty much whenever I wash the car I vacuum out the airbox.

I immediately plugged my wet/dry Vac and vacuumed that CRAP right up.. even the white mesh surrounding the actual filter had crap stuck to it. 2018 owner here, the side panel at driver's side is also very squeeky in my car. Thought it was my fault until I saw your vid. I also had some strange malfunctions that only happened once: heating was superhot even the temperature was on low (this was fixed after shutting the car down for an hour), mirror not folding out, pre-sense activating when standing still... Nevertheless, love the S5 :D

      Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the interior rattles are probably one of the top complaints I have with the car. It just seems like Audi chose such a cheap material in some areas. My previous S4 was built rock solid, so I'm not sure if it's newer Audi's in general or just the B9. Oh well.
