- Today, we'll be getting into replacing a PCV valve on this 2018 Audi S5! This removal/install guide is specifically for the 2018-2023 B9 S4/S5/SQ5.
(There will be multiple catch can options on the market quite soon specifically for these engines)
PARTS NEEDED:
Oil Separator: 06M-103-515-H
Separator Gasket: 06M-103-517-B
Oil filter Gasket: 06M-103-727-A
Intake Manifold Hose: 06M-129-041-H
Positive Crankcase Hose: 06M-103-217-DD (optional, under the turbo)
Almost ALL Audi engines are plagued with all sorts of mechanical failures from different system that fail over time including: waterpumps , thermostats, and the infamous PCV VALVE.
The PCV or as otherwise known, the Oil Separator, has been a wide spread regular failing part on the 2.0T, 3.0T, and even the 4.0T Audi engines.
OIL SEPARATOR
The system consists of a housing with a mounting for the oil filter, the fine oil separator, a pressure control valve, as well as a connection for a downstream valve unit to distribute the treated blow-by gases.
FUNCTION
In the breather module the blow by gas is finely separated by channeling it through a chamber containing baffles. The middle chamber houses two impactors which the gases flow through the nonwoven material. The task of this material is to breakdown the oil spray. Oil droplets form. By reversing the flow direction, the oil droplets are trapped by the downstream baffles due to the force of gravity. The oil droplets collect in the oil collecting chamber.
FAILURE SIGNS COULD BE:
Oil around oil cap/pcv system
Vacuum Leak
Check Engine Light
Rough Idle
Whistling Noise from Engine Cover
Oil Consumption

Just had my brake booster go out in my 2018 b9 s4 but never experienced anything else and almost at 60k miles. About to go stage 1 finally but waiting for Audi to get this part. Haven't had the issue with the PCV value but now im considering doing it.
@@liamcole6586 Got some really cool maintenance content coming up. Stay tuned
What PCV did you use ? Can you please let me know I need one .
@@CHRISCAPO9 please check the description. Oem pcv.
The videos are great, it’s great to see German car enthusiast who actually know what they are talking about. I would also suggest looking in to updated versions of the diverter valve if available or replacing if an older vehicle and or tuned. All good sound information and great execution.
Bout my S5 b9 at 5 miles and had to replace this particular part at 70k. Started leaking oil and lose power - - seems like a major issue for many in the Audi line up. Thanks for posting!
Get her changed out! Thanks for the support!
It sucks that you were not aware. Put the PCV is a maintenance item on this engine. Thank fully it's easy to get to and replace as a DIY
Bro that’s crazy 🔥 love the s5 and sq5
Both are torque monsters! 🚀
Great video! Keep them coming
You betcha! Lots more in the works 📈
Good to know info. Looking to get a sq5 after selling my b9 s4 two years ago.
Excited to see you make that happen man!
SQ5’s are the move!
Hey guys great video. For future reference those triple socket thingys you refer to are called Torx bits. Party on.
Or tripple square?
Glad to see it is such an easier replacement vs the B8
I know right! B8 is a bust.
@@Need4Built I can't afford it just yet. But I'm excited to upgrade to a B9
Brooo I love your channel!! I love Audis😊
Really happy you found me ! Stay tuned for more!
@@Need4Built thank you 😁
Hey guys just found out this channel (I really liked btw), question here :
-Any issues with the infamous rocker arms?
I own an S5 sportback mid 2018, with currently 68k and lost my warranty recently, I'm really hesitating keeping the car because of it...
Any advice will do!
Great vid man
Thank you! 📈
Well it looks like moving to the B9 doesn't end dealing with PCV issues but it definitely appears to be a much easier job so that's a big plus.
Much easier than removing the supercharger like on the B8/B8.5!
There’s still one hose under the turbo, but it’s a very rare failure and can easily be replaced when going stage 3🚀
@@Need4Built I have to also say for me the B9 S4/S5 exterior is not even close to the B8.5 look. Interior win goes to the B9 hands down. The B8.5 SQ5 exterior vs the B9 SQ5 is a tie for me at this point. I think the B8.5 S4 is going to be one of those timeless looks that just gets better with age. (my unsolicited opinion) 😬
@@fredzimmer8626
I cannot argue with you on the B8.5 S4 being a timeless perfect example. I believe it’s going to turn into a collectors car similar to the B5 S4.
The b9 interior is awesome and all but I would totally swap the interior into a b8.5 and keep the body/chassis. Maybe I’ll buy a B8.5 S4 for my little guy one day and build it with him!
BUT I think the B9 SQ5 inside/out is a huge difference and improvement over the b8.5 S4, not even talking about the motor, just looks.
Come through, I’ll give you a ride in mine. Change your mind 😉
Hey easy now. We love and appreciate all Audi's interior and exterior 😁
@@uncensored6420 I couldn’t agree more 👏🏼
Nice video. About to replace my PCV with racingline’s newly released PCV/Catch Can. Looks to be a solid replacement for the faulty stock
I agree! It’s definitely one hefty price tag, but the quality is there, and on the bright side you’ll never have to worry about the pcv again. 👏🏼
Can you run that set up on upgrades turbo i see that it’s not made for cars running then 2 barr
@@4RingsJamz idk. I’m only running 034s Stage 1 and have no issues with it. If you ask Racingline, please report back

Get that bad boi replaced! You’re welcome! 🤝
How many miles do you have

Good to know how easy of a job this is, thanks bro
This is aspirational for my B9 SQ5 that I love even stock. No one is tuning them like this in the UK. I can't find the answer anywhere but do you know what the standard engine internals are rated to in terms of power? And the ZF in terms of torque?
I hope to see you build yours!
The B9 3.0t rods are rated for 600wtq at a safe limit. I’m making 620wtq/640whp without any issues for 10k miles already.
The zf8 transmission, 8hp55 is is rated for upwards of 800wtq I believe. It’s insane. The trans is more bullet proof than the engine.
We have seen a few people make 700whp/700wtq without issues but that’s kind of a huge danger zone. The power I’m at right now is right there at the safe limit.
Hi , would H&R Super Sport Spring Set with 2" lowering be perfect for my 2022 Audi Q5 45 Sline?
Yeah! Get that suv dropped
Hi Dude, my S5 B9 Sportback has thrown P2279 and P0507 error codes and I am here in the UK watching your video 1am on a Saturday. Glad to see that it does not look that expensive to fix. Can't believe the PCV valve failure is such a common failure and that Audi hasn't recalled for free replacement. Are there any stronger aftermarket parts that you would recommend? Or shall I just go with Audi OEM and hope that lightning doesn't strike twice?
034 Motorsport is working on an upgraded option. However at this moment it’s fairly cheap to just replace it with a stock option since it’s quite cheap.
@@Need4Built yeah you are right. OEM is inexpensive so will stick with that for now thanks.
2 words: laser lights😉. They are good! Btw, I have the ‘21 Ascari Launch Edition and love it!
Sick!
Any idea what rear diffuser is on the car? Great video!
No idea but thank you for watching
What are your thoughts on the racingline PCV replacement for this vehicle the only downside I think is it’s not rated for over 30psi… 034 motorsports stg 1 has boost of 22-25… worth it or no?
Waste of money. Wait for 034’s catch can to come out.
Great video! Can I remove my oil filter canister on my B9 3.0 to change the gasket without removing the turbo?
Yes absolutely. Would require putting car into service mode for easy access.
@@Need4Built Ok going to try it tomorrow. Thanks!
What's interesting about this replacement/install, is that the part being removed is 06M 103 A01.. The new(replacement) part @3:23 is also 06M 103 A01 (You can again, see the "replaced" part number @ 6:02 ) ... Yet, in the video description, it reads, For parts needed :
PARTS NEEDED:
Oil Separator: 06M-103-515-H
What’s interesting is that you’re behind on the updated part numbers. It’s the same part.
06M-103-515-H is the updated part number and the suppression is 06M 103 A01
parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi__/Engine-Crankcase-Vent-Valve-Engine-Oil-Filler-Tube-Engine-Oil-Separator-Filter/70048001/06M103515H.html
If you search up 06M 103 A01, it will pop up as 06M-103-515-H due to it being updated.
You stand corrected sir.
With VWAG parts, the numbers and or letters at the end are a revision or variation.
Which brand of honeycomb grill is this? From what website? Thanks!
I believe it was from CanAutoPerformance!
Hey what grill he he running on the s5 where did you guys buy it from looks good
I think it’s from canautoperformance. Check them out
how did u get the mmi to look like that in the dash with the circle guage?

What is that part? My English is not so good thanks for help
PCV. Positive crankcase ventilation
Help- where is the n80 valve in the s5 b9? I cant locate it :(
On the left side by the Hpfp.
that crash bar looks like mine. I had mine powder coated black, but over time it has been getting chipped or flaked away. Mine looks identical. I'm gonna try to spray paint a few coats next time.
I had the same issue with my B8.5 S4 crash bar and my B9 SQ5 crash bar.
One of my buddies recommended instead of regular spray paint or powder coat to use high quality black truck bed linear you can find at your local auto parts store. Apparently its ALOT more durable and will not get chipped or ruined over time. He’s had it on his crash bar for over 10k miles, no chips. I’m doing it next on my SQ5.
Use 3M rubberized truck bed liner. Scuff it up and clean well before spraying
@@chriss4739 thanks for the tip!
Do you think black duct tape would work?
@@mchong91 I think you would see it through the grille. Would be pretty ugly I’m not going to lie.
I'm now confused as to which of the three parts fail. 034 seems to only specify the host part you've replaced as being the issue (with its check value).
You show the PCV itself being replaced for its gasket (this fails as a result of the check valve failing right? As only then does the pressure burst it).
The other hose that goes under the turbo is also a PCV hose, but is this involved in any of the failures? I assume not as you didn't replace it
Replace them both. Pcv and hose. Don’t worry about the hose under the turbo just do it when you go stage 3.
How is replacing the PCV restoring any lost horsepower?
Hi from the uk . Great video . Useful information. Have you guys had any issues with rocket arm failures ?
None of my cars or No one I know has had this failure. It seems to be 1% of all B9’s on the road have suffered this. It’s an over exaggerated failure that’s insanely rare.
@@Need4Built VAG technic over here have repaired many of these , with an in depth analysis of the issue . The rockers in question are very poorly made and designed . Audi no longer stock the part and only sell the new designed part . Their advice is to have the issue rectified if you going to tune the vehicle . As running it harder could cause catastrophic damage .
@@matthewfoster9755 Interesting. I can buy the new rockers anywhere in North America. Only the 2018-2019 vehicles have this issue. No running it hardware doesn’t accelerate the issue. Both stock and tuned b9’s have had the failure. VAG technic has fixed what maybe 20-30 b9’s with the failure? Out of HOW many b9’s in the UK? Thousands upon thousands? Again Audi has stated these rockers have had 1% of failure rate across all b9’s in the USA and europe. That’s a tiny ass number. There’s as much piston failures almost as rocker arm failure. Private Audi shops and even Audi techs have recommended simply going to 5w-40 could help the issue however if they fail, they fail. Oh well. It’s not that big of a deal.
@@Need4Built I am torn as to changing the oil to 5w40 . What are you guys running ?
@@matthewfoster9755 I’m running 5w-40 in my b9’s and every b9 I touch
This is a great save DIY when my CPO warranty expires :) Quick question though, 024 have an expensive oil catch can system that replaces the plastic PVC to a metal unit. What are your thoughts on that? Just curious that you don't have it w/your SQ5. Is it because it have limitations due to the high boost? Would you recommend it? Or an entirely different aftermarket product?
Wait for 034’s catch can.
@@Need4Built Sounds good.Thank You
Is that transmission mount available for 2015 Q3
Maybe? See if 034 has it.
When I ordered the PCV hose it also came with the black tube that connects with the turbo. Do you know the torque spec for the 2 bolts?
10-12 NM. It’s basically hand tight.
@@Need4BuiltIs there a secret to removing the hose. The connectors seem like they're locked in there.
@@humanresources2138 gotta press on both sides of it where there are two little marks on the hose and then get underneath it and it will “unlock” and pop out. Really dumb design and the worst connection Audi/VW ever created.
Just got a used b9 s5 with 18k miles. The dealer was sketchy he sold me the car without changing oil and he reset the oil thing so I wouldn’t know.
What are some other things thats I should check or replace or look out for this is my first car.
Thank you. I also paid 3300 for a 3 yr warranty is that worth it?
Take it to an Audi/VW third party shop to get inspected if you dont trust the dealer.
Curious question, did it make you lose oil quicker then the usual Audi oil consumption?
Maybe a little bit, considering it was starting to leak outside the pcv. But In theory yes, a bad pcv does cause the engine to eat more oil.
Right now I have a camaro 2ss but I want an s5 or tts or s3 idk why bro
S5 would be the way to go my man. You can’t go wrong with that decision.
Where did you get your PCV from? Maybe I missed that part
directly from audi
The part that fails on the B9 is the Y pipe that unfortunately comes with the turbo inlet, Not the PCV itself. (The really most common atleast, my B9 S4 included). Easier job to to and cheaper too.
The pcv check valve and gasket have failed on me and many other owners. It’s smart to replace the Y pipe and the pcv itself.
@@Need4Built Yes, I forgot to say your case was probably different. I mean you woulda known if it still leaked after😅 Didn’t mean it in a mean way, just trying to spread infos that were hidden from me on the pages when I got the car last year and it started leaking from the oil cap. Oil would end up in the intake from the check valve failing making my car smoking a lil bit and loose a little bit of power
pls send the link of the pcv details page
Please check description
I thought the breather hose was the most common pcv part to fail? Great content
Both the hose and the check valve within the pcv fail unfortunately. Thank you!
@@Need4Built Will be installing new breather hose this coming week, was told to order only that one first because it’s most likely the bad part.
@@220g Here is another great video that will change your mind. I highly recommend changing the pcv itself as well.
czcams.com/video/ua7OK2li7Pk/video.html
Would the transmission mount void my warranty?
Highly doubt that. Only an ecu tune. Even then the dealer would have to prove that the car is tuned.
What's the front splitter on the s5?

Here you go.
How do you find out that the torque spec was 10NM?
ALLDATA.
Y not delete the pcv all together? That’s what I wanna do to mine. But it seems like everyone replaces them instead. I am wondering if there’s a good reason for this?
Can’t do a pcv delete lol. The entire engine and other systems are all vaccum dependent as well. There needs to be circulation. 034 is working on a solid proper check valve system with a catch can and billet pcv replacement. Wait for that.
@@Need4Built i meen delet it from the intake to a check valevd with catch can.

I’ve had a Jetta and nobody mistakes my S4 for a Jetta. I don’t hate the S5 I just prefer the slender look of the S4
It was absolutely a joke. I want an S4 myself.
Would you be able to link where you purchased it from? Great video btw
I think mine may be bad because when accelerating I hear a high pitched whistling noise, almost sounds like a supercharger, I’ve heard some people say it’s the ZF8 transmission but this seems more likely

All oem parts from Audi.
You can also see if your local dealership would be cheaper. The part numbers are all listed in the description so check it out!
You should look under the hood and see if you can see any oil. This s5 owner also told me the same thing: whistling noises when accelerating. Possibly just vacuum leaking.
Zf8 definitely has nothing to do with such sounds.
