Anyone who ever watched Bivol knew it was a tall order for Canelo. Great footwork solid defense and sound technical boxer. Best fighter for Saul since mayweather who hits harder and doesn’t take rounds off. He doesn’t lose rounds let alone get a decision.
Facts and I was hoping he finished the 12th round like he did against Smith jr.
Preach, I've been telling my guys for over a year now that bivol would beat the hell out of canelo. Canelo can't beat a true 175 in their prime. Joe Smith would've been canelos best shot at beating a 175 (and Joe Smith would annihilate canelo, bivol actually respected smith in his fight. Smith actually hurt bivol. Cant say the same for canelo). Calling bivols win a upset is such a smack in the face to bivol. Canelo beating bivol should've been what was listed as a upset.
Exactly so it wasn't a cherry pick
We need a guy like Canello, that dares to be great, I love the show, but don't like their point. If you wanna be the best fight the best. Everything they are saying is what is wrong with boxing. All the greats lost, except Floyd who was known to cherry pick by fighting guys at the right time. We need all fighters to date to be great. Honestly Roy saying this kinda gives away his greatness for what he did at heavyweight, the cherry picked, which is cool, his resume allowed that
Ive always said whoever was going to beat Canelo had to have some of Floyd and be stronger bigger than GGG, that was Bivol
I am loving this podcast all three of these guys are scholarly practitioners in the sport of boxing.
But they aren’t on canelo’s level… Canelo wants to be great. Record be damn. Roy and Paulie were so obsessed with their 0. You can hear it when they talk about Canelo. Asking him why is he fighting champions! Not regular guys, but champions in weight classes above his starting. Wow…
@@calebfoster2520 that’s a good point, they sound like they not Interested in being great by risking their record, whereas Canelo took that risk, but they got a point, Canelo team might have cherry picked the whole 168 lb division since that weight class isn’t that deep in talent, As well as picking bivol at 175 after bivol having two mediocre back to back fights, Canelo trying to reach greatness but with calculated risks aka. Cherry picking
@@calebfoster2520 Roy dominated a prime Benard hopkins at 160 then moved up from middleweight and beat a 44-0 James toney who was p4p at 168.
Canelo doesn't have a better win. So cut it out.
@@cl8355 people get defensive when it comes to canelol lol
A cherry pick means an easy pick an easy fight and Bivol was an undefeated WBA LHW champ with 8 tittle defenses by no means was that easy pickings cherry picking. Bivol has elite defense can fight forwards backwards very well rounded never touched the canvas and LHW is full of punchers.
@Jorge There is no smoke at 168. Benavides is fighting Limeux turning down Morrel thats ducking smoke right there. Canelo is undisputed the rest are just 168 contenders ducking the smoke in hopes for a Canelo payday. Eubank jr trash got beat by BJS mYbe thats who Roy Jones jr claims Canelo ducking but makes no sense. Unless you talking about Ryder. The rest are with PBC only way those happen is if a sactioning body orders it you would think thats obvious but nothings is obvious to the Canelo haters.
@Jorge exactly
agreed.. definitely not cherry picking.
Agree, I don't get why people keep saying this was a cherry pick gone bad. A cherry pick gone bad is when all those hyped UK fighters bring over an unknown Mexican to UK and thinking it's an easy fight and then get beat.
Canelo thought it would be easy. He ducked Benavidez, and got beat down.
Love this sit down, 3 ppl who know boxing being real. Great stuff it’s a must watch from me.

Bivol is just ridiculously good at technical boxing and if he could take a power shot from Joe Smith then Canelo was never gonna touch him… so good he was completely outclassed those one twos were flawless…
@Thegoatofboxing how did he touch him… please explain? Only touching I saw was missing and his shoulder… that doesn’t win fights
@Thegoatofboxing Joe Smith Jr hits way harder than Canelo and Bivol took joe smith Jr best punch and shook it off. Bivol beats Canelo 11/10
@Thegoatofboxing Touched him up? Canelo was hitting nothing but arms. And Bivol's pressure made him gas out. Tool.
Bivol face look completely fresh, only his shoulders were hurt cause he was blocking a lot of his punches

Yo, just sayin', what a freakin treat this panel is. New favorite boxing analyst show.
I thought GGG won the first fight and the second one being a draw... I can see an argument for Canelo winning the second... But he lost the first. Horrible scoring in a lot of his fights... Lara, Mayweather, GGG, Bivol.
And the Trout fight had horrible scoring.
He lost both GGG bouts and somehow Lara outlanded him across all the rounds with the exception of body punches landed but the judges gave Cinnabun the UD win, but his cheerleaders say he earns all his wins
I urge to rewatch that second GGG fight. I agree with you on the first but GGG looked REALLY bad in the second fight until like rd 8 or 9.
Mayweather blew Canelo out worse than Bivol, and *still* got a split decision. I was shocked the judges even give Bivol the decision.
@@IccyTheOne GGG didn't look _"REALLY bad"_ Canelo just performed better the second time around. GGG still won on points regardless but didn't get the decision. Which is the point.
The way Canelo fought is as if he was going to just knock him out. No respect for Bivol. Then he never made any adjustments and thought he won.
Spot on, exactly how I saw it too. I think going in he thought ima land some big shots and he will fold. No plan B after he couldn’t put a dent on Bivol.

I haven't seen Mike Goldberg since the UFC days. Glad to see him again.
Super great conversation, im looking foward to the next one
Great podcast. I appreciate how these great fighters and now great commentators don't talk over each other and give each other space to extrapolate on their perspectives
Great conversation and that last point was spot on. Bivol could've gone for a tko but he stayed disciplined and stuck with the plan.
It seemed to me Bivol wanted to guarantee a rematch for the check. I could be flat out wrong though, but I thought he felt he was controlling the fight and didn't want to show the world how easy Canelo was in order to activate the rematch clause.
@@orggrog4013 That is very plausible. I really hope Canelo fights Bivol after GGG.
I think Canelo was looking to go undisputed in 2 classes moving to 175 this time & used Bivol as a marker. They had also mentioned Beterbiev but Bivol showed Canelo should be at 168.
Doesn't matter tho because bivol willing to go down and canelo willing to up either way canelo found his rival
@@rigo5956 Canelo will *never* fight Bivol again, at 168 or anywhere else and definitely not for the belts.

I just discovered this channel, and I’m so impressed with the discussion and analysis. What a great balance of perspectives from four seasoned experts including three former champions! Unlike so many channels where cultural biases seem to drive the discussions, these four men stick strictly to the facts, and provide insights you can not find anywhere else. Keep up the great work!

fighting an undefeated champion in a higher weight class= cherry pick
@Jorge to me a cherry pick is someone you're supposed to beat easily like sulecki or montiel not an undefeated champion in a higher weight class
Being undefeated is overrated. Who you fought is way more important.

Canelo even said it himself that he should've been more agressive. That being said Canelo will lose worse if he takes the rematch.
If he was more aggressive that woulda opened him up to a knockout
His problem was being too aggressive. He didn’t have a game plan at all
@Jorge lol that’s not a real game plan. Arm shots don’t count as points. Bivol said he laughed at him when he figured out that was his move
It would've got him knocked out. How aggressive you wanna get on a persons arm?
@Jorge Facts it never stopped Bivol from pounding his ass.
This is a GREAT podcast, the best boxing talk I've heard in a long, long time.
Much appreciated
Amazing channel! All legends with the moral authority to criticise 🥊
I’m not a boxing expert, just an enthusiast. But I saw enough of Bivol to know Canelo picked the wrong guy. Bivol easily wins 10 out of 12 rounds in his previous fights. Canelo actually did better than most of Bivols opponents, but he won at most 4 rounds. A rematch would be a bad decision for Canelo.
If I’m not mistaken Bivol and Canelo are the same age (31). David Benevidas spared with Bivol during a camp, and Canelos 1st choice was from South Africa who had been knocked out twice.
That was never Canelo’s first choice.. his trainer brought it up about him going up to cruiserweight and become a 5 division world champ.. if you are going for legacy that is a fight you’d wanna take.
@@luismp94 that was his first choice but DAZN told him no
@@LoveAndLight8887 Exactly! Canelo had no real intention to fight Bivol in the first place, and Hearn said "No more soft touches" until you challenge yourself again lmao
@@tylerhingleton8493 your a clown. Canelo is a free agent he fights whoever he wants lmfao. You act like canelo was forced to fight bivol when he had all those easy cherry picks like charlo and Andrade. Benavidez is inexperienced too. He went for the most difficult besides beterbiev
@@duckyh9712 He was forced and backed into a corner to fight Bivol, dumbass! He wanted to fight that bum, Makabu, who no one ever heard of, and Eddie Hearn told him "No" knowing money would be lost from the network. He drew out a two-fight contract for him to sign involving Bivol and GGG, with the former being just as well known as the latter among boxing fans. Of course he'd rather fight Bivol over Beterbiev since he has less power than him to begin with. Plus, his overrated ass never wanted to avenge any fight that was either controversial or a loss, due to how limited his skill set is, in general. Perhaps do your actual research instead of being a deluded fanboy, 🤡!
Brilliant submissions from the panel, one great Chanels
Good conversation good podcast and the topic was on fire 🔥 good job from the cast.
this conversation been going on for years, last year everybody said the only guys that can beat canelo was beterviev and bivol at 175, why is this news now, canelo got 168 undisputed, canelo got greedy and wanted the 175 undisputed. Canelo saw passed bivol, he got greedy knowing they have ggg on september. People forget
Só cause he unified his division and challenged himself moving up in weight he’s greedy?
@@josemendez2779 im not saying it in a negative way, i think canelo just overlooked bivol, being the most dangerous one over ggg. People was asking him over usyk, that got over his head, he was golfing instead of resting his body when practice is over, he was gassed by the 3rd round. Now he knows he needs to go back to fundamentals.
I CANT BELIEVE them saying he shouldn’t have gone up there etc etc so fighters should be happy just to take a weaker opponent wtf is boxing coming to.
Pauli said Bivol didn’t say anything.. he just kept beating his ass 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And somebody said I agree in the background
That's exactly what happened
Finally!! Someone addresses that in Mexico - canelo is not on a pedestal. My father BARELY even wants to hear about him
Great stuff. The commentary and hosting is top level.
"Eastern European fighters are mentally stronger than Western fighters"
" It's no longer the time of the African American fighter in boxing" Pauli M.
Bivol said it before the fight , everyone thinks canelo is untouchable but he’s not and he will beat him , and that’s exactly what he done and no one believed it expect 1% of people, canelo only fought him as he knew the judges are in his pocket
Yeah that score card was horrendous, I'd like to hear them explain how Canelo won 5 rounds.
Judges were in his pocket yet they all went against him unanimously? Do you know how retarded that sounds. Anyone with common sense knew bivol had a good chance of beating him and should of been the favourite it was idiots like you saying bivol was cherry picked like he wasn’t any good purely because you didn’t wanna give canelo credit for daring to be great which is the only thing he did. Iv always like canelo and I said to my dad I couldn’t see him beating bivol when it took him 11 rounds to hurt Caleb so to see all these comments after fight just baffles my head.

That’s the difference between Roy and Canelo mentality
Roy can’t comprehend moving up and chasing greatness. Keep in mind this is the same Roy who avoided McLellan, Nigel Benn, Eubanks, Nunn and milchevski. Moved up to heavy and fought Ruiz and NOT Lennox Lewis.

@@MoeGunz he can’t comprehend going up a second time after winning and dropping a title from a washed up over the hill past his prime nothing left in the tank champion

I would never call a champion a in a higher division a cherry pick especially when we are talking about arguably the #1 or #2 guy in that division. I do think Canelo was going for the challenge and possibly become undisputed at 175.
Na he thought Bivol was easier than Charlo and Benavidez both guys are physically bigger than Bivol too. He wanted Makbu Air at Crusier Weight. That was the real cherry pick cuz Makbu is trash but DAZN said no. They told him he had to fight someone better and a bit more well known first before fighting makbu

I'm not Mexican but speak to a lot of Mexicans all the time. The ones that don't like Canelo don't like him because they resent not only the comparisons to the Mexican greats but the fact that he has been hyped and helped by the industry in ways that most other mexican fighters have never been. Mexican fans are very knowledgeable about the sport and know how corrupt it is and view Canelo as part of the problem. A lot of his fights either end in him easily dominating an opponent they don't respect or him getting a decision he doesn't deserve against fighters they do respect. To make matters worse, he was suspended for PEDs and instead of taking responsability blamed Mexico's meat which pissed people off as well. I think he is def well liked by the masses but there's def a lot of Mexican fans out there who really don't like him and think he is more of an industry product than a true great.
That’s false because from the get go the mexican media had Chavez Jr as the next star and Canelo as the villian who was jelouse pf Jr, that’s how the mexican media was swlling the fight. Canelo ended up movi g to California and signing to GoldenBoyPromotions and mexicans media got mad cause they lost the rights to Canelo and they started defaming his character. Mexican media tried using Maromero Paez son as the new villian but it never caught on..Mexicans who say Canelo gets help have an inferior complex issue and assume cause he’s white that he has privilage
The mexicans who try and justify their hate for Canelo are the same mexicans who were saying Cesar Cano was the next best thing, they claimed Canelo was only fighting old former champions and they took Cano through the same route and Cano ended up getting beat by Pauli,Mosley and Morales then they hopped on the Jaime Munguia hype now they on the Benavidez bandwagon
These guys say things that would get you in trouble on major networks. This is pretty unfiltered and un PC I like it.

THANK YOU!!!! People love to say canelo has gotten better, he learned so much and he's sooooo excellent at everything, but he lacks some of the simple basics and ability to adjust.
Against Caleb plant you literally saw him adjust to the shoulder roll by using angles compared to what he did against Floyd. That’s an adjustment. You saw him adjust to the move of digging your shoulder into a fighter, fucking, and trying to pivot out by throwing uppercuts to stop saunders. Two major adjustments in 2/3 fights he’s had
@@pandabear1576 wtf that's not an adjustment, THAT'S WHAT HE PLANNED FOR WITH THEM, literally because both of them were 1 dimensional fighters with bad gas tanks, no serious punching power and had shown multiple flaws in their previous fights. Nothing in ANY of their previous 2 fights said they had any chance of beating canelo. An adjustment is made when you plan for something and all the sudden have to do something different in the fight. You can't make adjustments to floyd mayweather in a fight with caleb plant. Wtf are you talking about. He did NOT adjust against any of his opponents past danny jacobs when he boxed, fought and boxed. Past that canelo has been quite basic. He looked like deontay wilder vs kovalev just looking for one shot.
@@hannibalbeats24 no that’s is an adjustment. He didn’t know how to beat the shell when he fought Floyd so Floyd could even make mistakes he shouldn’t with the defense and counter Canelo. You said he didn’t develop since Floyd or learn how to make adjustments but he adjusted for that against plant. Also he didn’t plan that uppercut on saunders he adjusted to doing it in the middle of the fight. Saunders doesn’t always do that method of evasion as much as he did that fight.
@@pandabear1576 wtf are u talking about? So now your saying that caleb plant is on the same level as a floyd mayweather? 🤣🤣🤣 and you can literally see canelo working on that uppercut in camp for saunders so what are u talking about? Stop it with the madness.

Great information from the best fighters. True champions in the era when no one was cherry picking Roy, Tarver and Paul. New sub here this channel is going to the sky.
Great episode guys
Antonio makes a great point. I think Canelo felt Bivol’s strength and power. Every time he tried to push the pace or put it on Bivol, Bivol responded. So Nelo knew that he was operating at or near his max and yet he could feel Bivol had at least another gear to go. On the flip side, I think Bivol had enough respect for Canelo not to go all out just in case Nelo had another gear. The last thing Nelo wants on his record is a stoppage. I felt the same when Nelo fought GGG the first time. I felt that GGG could have pressed and stopped Nelo and I think Nelo felt the same. So he didn’t push GGG into that kind of decision and GGG had enough respect for him not to take the risk. Just in case Canelo responded in kind. It’s easy for me sat at home to say ofcourse because the guys in the ring are the ones taking the punches and having to negotiate all this. It’s like they used to say about mike Tyson that fighter’s used to get into a silent agreement not to punch each other to the body, so fighters wouldn’t punch Mike to the body, hoping that he won’t punch them to the body.
Thats how Bivol fights ! You can watch every major fight of his , I’m not saying when his fighting jorneymans or prospects but real treath, that’s how he fights he never goes all in , it’s seems he always has this next gear to answer what he’s opponent have to offer . That is why I shan’t to see Dima vs Beterbiev . Artur will go from r1 , yes Artur is a great boxer and exactly for this reason he will go guns blazzzing from round 1 because he knows that Bivol is better boxer and he needs to pursue the punchers chance tactic . And that’s why I whant this match so much ! Was SOG right when he interviewed dima befor he got mainstream and said he is The next great in LHW ? Is his fencing stile this good even vs all time great puncher boxer ?

Canelo should've put some respect on Bivol name wtf was he holding his arm up for like he won?
Canelo really thought he was that good , true boxing experts knew canelo had no chance
Cherry picking hell no, he fought the champion of 175, people says he duck Charlo and that's a lie Charlo duck him and his own brother Jermell expose him. The only one beating Canelo is Benavidez. And why no one speaks about Charlo ducking Benavidez that Charlo can even mention Benavidez name.
seriously people just hating on canelo. He pushed the limit and lost. that's what boxing should be like..
It is a cherry pick because he thought he was picking the easier fight/deal… other than fighting Benavidez, Charlo, DA, etc.. ( and contracts were offered with some of those fighters listed for more money too) , and also they gave Bivol his respect..even before he lost to Bivol those fights with the fighters listed above were definitely looked at as more competitive fights for Canelo… I don’t think they are hating all of them are past champs, and gave a thorough analysis with facts, logic, and with their boxing IQ.
My only question is do you have any excuses tonight Roy? 😂 I really wonder if that went through Tarvors head during the interview

I never gave thought to the cherry pick because I thought bivol was the toughest test, but Roy gave different perspectives..why would he do it? Nobody takes a contest they think they are in jeopardy of losing..especially when your own division is so packed. Nobody gave bivol a shot in the mainstream.
Unless and maybe this is something that is true.. Canelo likes challenges? Yeah RJJ made good points and most, MOST, people would go the easy route but Canelo the whole time spoke about challenging himself and what better way to do that then move up a division and fight the #1 (possibly #2) guy? That’s a true challenge.
Roy’s perspective is very dumb and collapses on itself. He asks why would you go there and try and win a title again? He wants to be undisputed there Roy that’s why. “You think he’s a bigger challenge than a Benavidez or a Charlo?” Yes roy that’s why he’s moving up again to unify a division roy. It’s like he’s coming to an answer for why Canelo did something but choosing not to accept what he’s thinking through
Canelo wanted to become undisputed at LHW - that's why he fought Bivol.
Dmitry also had a much better resume than Benavidez and arguably a better resume than Charlo.
@@pandabear1576 That was initially my mindset, but why now? Why not after he beat kovalev? Why all of a sudden does he want to unify LH. While I don't think saunders and plant are bad competition they won't give him the same legacy benavidez,Charlo or andrade would. If his plan according to you worked, where would he have to go after bivol and beterbiev? Did he go early think he was getting through either if them, and then what go back down? And be called a weight bully and not get credit for 168 ..would he go to cruiser or heavy..they did float the usyk idea which is preposterous.this is why tarver mentioned wtf was going on with the matchmaking there was no planned path that made sense.
@@shinske3564 none of those 3 guys help his legacy either. All the guys from 160-168 at the time besides GGG all have similar stature in boxing as well as resume. How do those 3 specific guys help his legacy more than if he beats Bivol who was ranked higher than all 3 guys you named? Do rankings not mean that fight had higher legacy defining value or not? If he would’ve beaten Bivol or Beterbiev his ass could’ve retired lol. What kind of question is that? How much more would he be required to do to please you if he would’ve accomplished that?
100% correct 🦆… he was never a great Mexican 🥊… most of the Mexican fans call him the 🤡🤡🤡 of boxing. Because he thinks he’s the greatest end the best of all time which is he not.🦆🦆🦆🦆
Courageous of Malignaggi to say what he said about Canelo and he was spot on imo.
this boxing convo is next level!!!
Reynoso took 3 losses in about 2 months time & he’s trainer of the year. Please 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Derrick James for the win. 7 belts 2 fighters. We know who the best trainer in boxing is ‼️💯
I think Bivol did not go for the KO NOT out of respect but thinking: If I ko this guy, there is no money on a rematch, let me carry him for 12 and I will KO Canelo on the rematch.
Precisely.
Bivol didn’t go for the ko because he stuck to his game plan. Why open up to a shot when the game plan is working
I don't think bivol thinks that way. He has a game plan. He sticks to it.
this is great

Great video and I’m happy to hear from the great Roy Jones Jr. saying what I have been saying to my friends. Canelo hasn’t improved so much since Floyd. He is more experienced, but he still will lose to a quality slick boxer with high level boxing skills.
Yeah, that's why he lost to Billy Joe Saunders, Caleb Plant, and Danny Jacobs
@@spencerantoniomarlen-starr3069 Lmao these dudes just say anything, honestly
That’s Just the truth. He’s been carefully picking the weakest opposition so he’s been masking his lack of development & hyping himself off of easy competition. Had he fought the best back to back like Floyd did, he would’ve been better prorated for Bivol. His own choice of weak competition left him with zero answers.
@@ritzkola2302 then why did he choose to fight Danny Jacobs, Bivol, and Lara voluntarily??
@@spencerantoniomarlen-starr3069 Danny Jacobs was a safe fight. You praising him for what exactly? When he’s Danny ever been a top elite dominant fighter? Cut it out man. Lara never got his rematch after the robbery. Y’all the same people hate Floyd yet TBE gave all close fights immediate rematches. Canelo picked Bivol because he thought he was pillow fisted and he’d be able to eventually walk him down like he did Plant. You asked weird questions. Canelo has had 6yrs to fight Andrade/Jermell/Jermall/Rematch Lara at 154. Fight Andrade/Jermall at 160. Fight David at 168. Beterbiev at 175. 6yrs to make one of those things happen. In 6yrs he has not chosen to fight the best of the best. A cherrypick means going after the easiest fight for you. Bivol was that fight in his mind. Now that Bivol beat the dog shit out of him from pillar to post in embarrassing fashion, YOU should be asking one question. Why isn’t Canelo doing the rematch? You think he doesn’t cherrypick, clearly because you’re scouring the comments and replying to me for some reason. So since that’s what you think. And since you clearly presented your mistaken belief that Canelo only chooses dangerous opposition. You need to answer any he isn’t doing a rematch with Bivol. It’s really that simple. Floyd gave people he beat rematches. No question. And beat ‘em again. Even easier the second time. That’s chasing greatness. That’s what daring to be great looks like. Why is Canelo running from the rematch. Which proves what legends in the sport, other fighters, and multitudes of fans have been saying about him. He doesn’t go after the best. Hell why isn’t he fighting David next? That’s his mandatory. Why is the wbc once again kissing Canelo’s ass bending rules for him, allowing him to hold up the 168 division for over a year like this?
