- 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle AWD review by The Straight Pipes. The Chrylser Pacifica is putting down 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque from a 3.6L V6. At $68,785 CAD, would you take it over the Toyota Sienna, Kia Carnival or Honda Odyssey?

hi
Shopping for a new car? Too bad. Everything is marked up and impossible to find.
I rather shop for the shirts you two are wearing in this vid.
If the back hatch is open for too long the button does not work on purpose...it is supposedly a safety feature. They got tons of complaints about it so there is now a software fix that changes the timeout to be longer. You can go get it updated for free at the dealer.
TheStraightPipes if I still had a bunch of little babies I wouldn't have bought anything that nice on the inside, especially in the back. That model definitely isn't meant to shuttle kids around, unless they're those super proper prep kids.
The tailgate not closing during the box test is the subject of a recall - This happens when you leave the tailgate open for over 10 minutes and try to close it with the button!
Are you sure it wasn't just the 5 second delay.
This happens on my dodge caravan as well
Just FCA quality stuff overthere
Wouldn’t be a Chrysler without a recall
It also happens when you buy a Chrysler product
Interesting fact. It's widely assumed that minivans were the choice of "soccer moms" and the category has nearly died because males opted for SUVs. In fact, the opposite is the case. Market research indicates that males appreciate the versatility of vans and it's women who shifted their allegiance to SUVs out of a belief that they were "safer" than vans, provided more visibility with elevated seating, and didn't stigmatize women who drove vans as those soccer moms.
I've heard this as well! The practicality and versatility has me sold. I can't fit plywood in the back of my wife's SUV, but our Town & Country can almost work as a de facto pickup as long as I don't have to tow.
In my opinion Minivans and Wagons are the best vehicles for families
I bought an old odyssey specifically because they molded even the seat belt mounts to perfectly fit plywood in the back. Super legit.
why did i read this in a ben shapiro voice
My dad wants a minivan not for family shit but to carry a lot of shit inside of it at all times, but my mom wants and suv… cause the minivan is ugly
Needs a Hellcat motor. Turn the wipers on and launch that beast.
I think a twin turbo version of the pentastar V6 will be enough. It might not make up to 500HP, but it's going to be fun, especially with AWD standard.
They did announce that
Bought a Pacifica awd launch edition last November and its awesome, almost 20,000kms on it so far its been flawless. The awd system works extremely well. Our truck literally sits in the garage now.... and im a truck guy!!
Only 12,000k-ish miles? I would hope the car is flawless and working
@@colechapman6976 yes its been great im at 30k miles now
I think we came to a time that van's just might become cool just because of how uncool they always seemed, especially for us millenials. So in the world of endless SUV's whoever's goes for a minivan might be considered a rebel.
SUV rebel!
Getting a wagon makes you a rebel these days. Minivans I feel still carry that bad rep
It's the same thing with wagons. In a sea of CRV's or GLE's, if you want to be a rebel, get an Outback or Volvo wagon!
My wife just got a Traverse, so the family minivan got "handed down" to me as my daily. Couldn't be happier; the practicality is unreal. #ManVan Life
Nice. We just test drove a Traverse as a potential replacement for our minivan. It's a great vehicle, but with 4 kids we need all of the space and practicality that a minivan offers, and the Traverse still doesn't quite equal it. Looks like we are going to stay a minivan family!
Traverse is nice, but watch out for the transmission.
I finished off my wife's last minivan when she was done with it a decade or so ago. When I took it over I figured I'd move it on down the road in a few months. I ended up driving it for 3 years. And I loved it. Like you said, SO practical.
@@getrightoutoftown I get it, man! We have four daughters and we take the minivan everywhere. My wife's Traverse is for her to be happy in what she drives to work and for us to take her car as a family "in a pinch." Definitely doesn't have the cargo for a road trip though.
I love the minivan life. I’d like to see you review the new, redesigned Sienna.
I got a Sienna LE AWD recently. It's pretty plush considering it's the lowest options package. I considered the Pacifica AWD for about 10 seconds until I remembered how bad Chysler's quality control is currently.
Please no lol the new one is an eye sore 🤢🤮
Might be a good car but has to be the ugliest thing on the road. Why are they putting LC 500 tail lights on a sienna
@@trenton.tchannel1810 It's a minivan. If styling is that important, then maybe you want something else.
I disagree with the other commenters here, I think the redesigned Sienna is a significant improvement. I didn't like the previous Siennas looks, but I'm digging the new one. I would love to see them review the new Sienna too.
This is just facts: for families, minivans are superior to the equivalent SUV.
No, get an suv with captains chairs it looks nicer doesn’t just need to be used for the family often is cheaper than a minivan. Another bonus is you’re not driving a minivan
@@saleemswaiss8133 rear cargo load height is what kills me when loading/unloading strollers. I prefer minivan height. Also minivan enter height is much better for small kids and elderly. Cargo space wise, SUVs don't have that deep area like minivans do. In that sense, minivans are superior. Also the 2nd row seats can be taken out without modifications, can't do that with SUVs. I think you literally have to unbolt them.
@@BWTECH0521 fair point. Definitely not problems that I have personally run into with strollers but I can see how it could suck on some SUVs. And I’ve never wanted to take out my second row since it’s able to be folded down
@@saleemswaiss8133 As per my perspective if you need 7/8 seater than buy something that can actually hold 7-8 people comfortably. So, buy fullsize suv or a minivan….midsize crossovers are just something in between you think you got 7 seater but rear seats are not usable for long trips
@@saleemswaiss8133 Agree’d. I own a 2017 Kia Sorento and almost everyone is suprised by the quality of the interior and over all performance of the car. Also both 2nd & 3rd row fold down completely so the storage space is more than the average person will ever need. Kia SUV’s all the way!!!
I was CRACKING UP at the little cuts to the Chrysler employee Saying “if the customer _____ , we turn on the awd” LOL I also drive with my daytime running lights on in my 2015 Chrysler 200C. Love love the triple led fog lights and led daytime runner. (Same daytime runner as pre Pacifica and fog lights from the 300 Durango, grand Cherokee srt ETC) I do it in daytime and night.
As I’ve said before I’m a dodge and Chrysler guy so I absolutely love the Pacifica it’s very cool awesome review guys I love how you guys do all cars and trucks for every type of person
So do I. And my 2015 Chrysler 200c with 177k miles. ❤️🥰
I loved the sound of the rain hitting the car while u guys talked it sounds better than without
You guys reviewing the car in the rain made it relaxing to watch
Still waiting for manufacturers to make a jingle tune for when the sliding door opens, Pontiac Trans-port did that and I miss it so much lol
With large cars being so popular, minivans are making a comeback and now there is a wide range of options that have awd, hybrids, or traditional v6 fwd. good time to be a dad.
There use to be so many manufacturers making minivans. Now it's only four, Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, and Kia. I wish we had more options...
I can’t wait to see the other mini vans you guys are going to review, I’m not into mini vans but they have very nice interiors
Fun seeing the change in the videos after you guys became dads.
With 3 kids under 7, and all their gear, I've been pushing hard for a minivan for ~5 years. But my wife has adamantly vetoed it. The last 3 have been XC60, XC90, and an XC90 - which is a great vehicle, but not as practical or comfortable as a minivan.
Our shortlist for the next family tourer right now is: E63s Wagon, Taycan 4s Cross Turismo, or a Model X.
The front end reminds me so much of the 96-00 town and country. I really like it. Makes me all nostalgic for my childhood.
When I was a kid my parents always had a pontiac Montana 15 years ago. It had tv we played video games on long trips and watched movies xD basically its 15 year ago version of this van. Also had a v6 and it was pretty fast
I own a 2021 plug in hybrid Pacifica Limited. We have about 10k miles on her now, and have enjoyed owning it. Makes life with kids a lot easier. Sliding doors and tons of room. Not to mention the PEHV aspect is great when you talk about fuel savings.
I for one really loved the sound of the rain hitting the car it’s ASMR next time it rains like that can you include that in the car review it was very soothing and nostalgic
Ive always been a minivan lover! Sienna has got to be my favorite.
I’m on team truck instead of an SUV or minivan. Bought a 18 F150 when I had my daughter. This summer my son was born and I picked up a new 21 F150. Love how they drive, huge backseat, all the tech you could want, great in the snow, and I can load my snowmobile in the back in the winter and pull my 25’ camper in the summer. Also great gas mileage with the 2.7L and never lacking power.
Own a minivan, love the minivan. Grew up with wagons, love the wagon. Seems all wagons are too small now, nothing like they were. So the minivan IS the new wagon. But…. If they made a new magnum, (charger wagon) I’m all in.
All the wagons that are (IMHO) true wagons are too pricey: only Volvo V90 and Mercedes E-Class qualify. Subaru Outback is also big enough, but too SUV like in my books.
@@IvanMacKenzie Well, didn't the Outback kinda pioneer the compact SUV thing as a lifted AWD wagon?
A class of vehicles too small in 2021? What drugs you on everything is bubbly and bulky compared to what they used to be
@@shaloon64 our caprice was huge, so was our olds. I’m not seeing how anything today is bigger. most are based on midsized sedans or smaller.
I own a magnum and love the trunk space. Thinking of keeping it to put miles on it and getting a minivan for when i go out with the kids. I had bought a 2009 escalade the other day and ended up getting a refund for the electrical issues it had on my way home from the dealership. Also i filled up the tank went only around the town i live in and the fuel consumption was horrifying. It was literally drinking gas. Borrowed moms minivan for a week 2012 sienna and that thing stayed on Full for 3 days lol thats when i knew i might seriously consider a minivan.
You guys should definitely “Kramer” it … but also make sure you unload any bags of cans in the back to help, per Newman.
Looks like a overall nice family hauler for sure, very nice interior 👌
Nice review. I think though you would have been better off to review the Limited AWD with the two rows of stowNgo.. The Pinnacle might have slightly nicer seats, but one of the top reasons to have a minivan is versatility. As you pointed out, you can't remove the middle row seats in the Pinnacle. In the Limited and the other trims, you can fold them into the floor and have 8 ft of flat cargo space. Try the box test then and see what you get. I have the old Grand Caravan kind of squared off minivan, but stuff I've been able to haul around and still be able to seat 5 people is pretty impressive. Can't wait for the Carnival review. Keep 'em coming.
I’m from Detroit Michigan where you have to drive South to enter Canada. We seamlessly alternate between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
@3:20 - There is a customer service bulletin to reprogram the rear lift gate module that hopefully fixes this issue. On occasion, the gate module "times out" and requires a reset by manually closing the door for the button to work again. The manual says it'll happen after a "few minutes", which I've experienced, but the other day I had the gate open for 2 hours and the button still worked - so who knows. I was laughing when I saw it.
Love the reviews! Saw you first with the Velostar N and now subscribed!
Always amazed how much you get for the money in these mini vans. Best bang for your buck.
That center display in the gauge cluster is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
Please review the new 2022 sienna woodland too. I love your videos!
Waiting eagerly for the Carnival video!
Was listening to this video while cooking and was going to point out the Parks and Rec mistake, rewatched it! Good catch guys 🙃
Get the show reference wrong… right to jail
Yuri’s shirt but “sche” part was covered 😁
The only time my family has a minivan is when we go on vacation and rent a car - it was always a minivan instead of an SUV (which we drove to the airport in). I think we like minivans because since we're in an unknown area, we don't need to worry about hitting the rear doors on other cars when exiting or entering the vehicle.
7:04
That's weird I just saw that episode from Parks and Recreation 😂😂
I’m currently in Florida and I rented a Pacifica, I like it very much! Comfortable, big, and good driving feel. Only complaints, when the Pacifica is fully loaded with 7 people, at 70 mph on a highway, the back suspension tends to bounce. Second complaint, CarPlay doesn’t connect immediately and in the past week of driving it I’ve had to use my phone as gps at least 5 times because the CarPlay stayed in “connecting” status.
Loved the minivans (Honda Odyssey - '09 used, then '15 new) when the kids were babies. So much room for everything, sliding doors... Now that the kids are 12 we've moved on from Minivan Life to a new Outback and we're NEVER looking back. So much more comfortable, fun to drive... However, can only fit maybe 1/2 the cargo - those vans are huge - so for camping we have to mount a rack to the tow hitch to fit everything (kayaks on the top). Only time we miss the minivan is for cargo, otherwise the Outback XT Touring is where it's at when the kids get older.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH So much more comfortable. Front seats and back seats. More comfortable ride. Tighter, more buttoned down, you're not sitting like your're in an RV. Gotta get the Touring for the Napa leather!
I would love to have a Pacifica, even though I'm still single!
Looks comfy on the inside
I clicked on the video just so that more people get recommended van videos instead of SUVs
Also you make great videos xD
Slight correction, the Chrysler Pacifica uses a Pentastar Upgrade 3.6L V6, which in fact has 2 step variable valve lift ( V-Tec in Honda terms) + Variable valve timing.
I feel called out with our sedan + hatch and my first baby on the way.
Would love to see a revisit of the Odyssey!
Already got my Minivan Kia Sedona 5 years ago, just finished paying it off, and have been very happy with it... Totally accepting and embracing the minivan, very proud of it and never have been interested in SUV at all... Finally after 20 years of SUV craze, people are very slowly realizing the SUV craze is just a fad
I geek out over functionality. Pacifica FTW 🙌
Great review as always! Will you review the new Carnival in the future?
Did a double take on that t-shirt, Yuri. Well done. Well done indeed.
Very impressive interior.
When i was in high school i drove around my parents' 97 ford windstar, and as epically lame as it looked, it was comfy and nice to be able to drive a bunch of friends around in. When the time comes, if a minivan is what makes sense, ill just make sure its comfy and had a bumpin sound system.
Omg Yuri, love your Porsche Hub T-shirt. Where can I get one just like yours?
I never thought I’d see the day where a minivan looks like a cool car!
Shout out to Plymouth voyager life! Learned to drive in a '92 5-speed manual and it was the best high school rig! Slow but you could fit 11 people and I put in massive 12" subs in it. So good!
We need a Hellcat version!
Pacificat
Hellcifaca!!
liked the rain shots lol
0:56 - Solid use of the emoji to keep Junior in the baby identity protection program.
Forgot to cover her face at 4:42 though!! Yuri might wanna fix that.
@@richardnavratil9661 oh come on, nobody is going to be able to identify a baby with that. And even if they could, the child is with the parents 24/7, but the time they're older you won't even recognize them. people are way too sensitive about this stuff. yes, it's good to give people privacy but let's be realistic about shit.
@@Mattyew I get it, just thought I'd let them know, since they went so far and beyond to create privacy for their child...
That's the one thing I love about Chrysler/Stellantis, they never stop innovating. That's the most seamless integration of a display screen on the seats of any vehicle save the pop-up screen on the Escalade. The only thing it lacks is that supercharged HEMI. jk...not kidding.
I would take this , the carnival or sienna. They all look really good for minivans.
There’s a recall out now to fix the tailgate not closing if it’s left open too long.
Also, Chrysler doesn’t seem to know what DRLs are. So in the settings if you turn on DRLs, to them that means you want the headlights on all the time. If you turn off the DRLs in settings, then it will only illuminate the LEDs around the headlights (which most companies consider DRLs).
What is it with Canadians and their weird fascination with DRLs? Most Americans I know HATE DRLs, so get over it already!
@@LG123ABC DRLs are required by law in Canada
In my 2019 Ram I have the same issue, not with the DRL actually but with the interior ambient lighting. If you want the headlights on and interior ambient lighting on the screens get super dark. Which is fine at night but if the headlights turn on when it’s raining and light outside you basically can’t see anything.
@@LG123ABC i am American and have no issue with DRLs. I don’t like that Chrysler considers DRLs to be the headlights instead of the LEDs. My insurance company actually gives a discount for having DRLs.
I need that shirt, Yuri
Nice👌let's see if its more durable and has more longevity than the previous generations😏
Nice shirt Yuri.
I can't wait to see you guys do the carnival!
Edit: my wife is anti minivan and wagon :(
Wasnt the other Pacifica review also red? So there's rumors this might get the 3.0L EcoDiesel, here diesel is cheaper than petrol and that'd be just perfect! The interior looks "expensive SUV" for sure.
I wish they’d cram the 2.0L Turbo in it. Considered the chassis is similar to the KL which has the 2.0L Turbo I don’t know why they haven’t done it, there would be more space in the engine bay as it is wider. I feel like the 295 ft lbs of torque would be fun.
@@jeremystout412 I feel like that tiny 2.0L wouldn't be enough to push a fully loaded minivan with enough power. In size the 3.0L EcoDiesel would fit just fine and even with the same fuel tank I'd go at least 600km.
@@makatron the same 2.0L Turbo is used in the Wrangler and performs very similar to the Pentastar, plus the Pacifica weighs slightly less than a Wrangler would. I agree that the 3.0L EcoDiesel is a good option, I just feel like it wouldn’t happen especially here in The States.
I’m just waiting for them to shove the hellcat into the Pacifica, knowing them, they’ll do it eventually
@@jeremystout412 oh but we get diesel versions here that toy guys will never see, a Colorado diesel easily gets over 35mpg here .
This is the one thing I enjoy the most about this channel, they'll drive anything lmao
I wish to own it, because it is so beautiful and delicate design
Do a review of the 2022 kia carnival ex+
My stylistic adventure side says SUV, my cargo capacity cool utility side says minivan.
Sadly we don’t get this one in Australia so you’ll need to let us know if it can overland like a Prado and is it better than the Kia.
Now I want all the minivans to have luxury brand counterparts. A Lexus sienna could be so sick.
Aye my family had a Plymouth Voyager too when I was growing up! It was a 1997.
Perfect 🔥🔥🔥
I drive a challenger scat pack with a six speed manual for my baby hauler. I have a 1 and 3 year old. Rear facing car seat fits behind the passenger who is usually my 5 foot tall wife and a forward facing car seat behind me doesnt affect my driving position at 5'10"
Minivans are so cool for families. So much more practical and better then toaster over SUV's.
Minivans rock! The most comfort and utility you can buy and still get 30mpg hwy!
*The Pentastar engine is made by Stellantis (based in Netherlands). I am not surprised to see the reliability and power of this motor.*
Out of all the minivans Ive driven, the Honda Odyssey is the best one out of all of them, the v6 VTEC has always been my favorite.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH you're right on that note. If the Odyssey had stow n go, AWD and a vacuum with that VTEC V6 Game changer.
Odyssey had weak transmissions
@@issavibez394 that was the downfall for most Hondas

Don't have kids or family but love this thing
Great review, we are in the market for a new minivan and I want to get a toyota(own a sienna already) but the new ones are just hideous. The Pacifica is the best looking IMO but I worry about quality and durability.
time for a refresh of the pentastar to give it more power, or drop something bigger in these vans. same power figures for years now
Amazing 👌
One of these murdered out with a black roof rack cargo hold would be amazing.
I'm one of the few that hate captain chairs in the second row. If I wanna get a family van to fit alot of people I would get the one with the bench. It's one seat but still.
So the same AWD system they have used in the 300 and chargers? We have a FWD version. It is quite useful and turned me around on having van for kids.
Can we expect the Kia Carnival next? Cause seriously that is a beast of a minivan, that I would love to see you guys review.
The Canadian spec is much different from the American spec.
I’d this had a turbocharged V6 or a V8 in a sport edition would more black and less chrome I would totally buy this.
I am a child of the seventies and vans used to RULE back in the day. Likely for all of the reasons that SUVs rule today…high riding height, space, and versatility. Plus you could customize the heck out of them.
The Pacifica has styling, luxury, everything you need… except power.
Lol when that power tailgate didn’t close
That's Chrysler in a nutshell.
That’s as Chrysler as it gets.
That’s a 50k Chrysler showing it’s quality 😂😂
This minivan looks good and is fully loaded. I love how those back seats fold themselves down but please guys, STOP thinking that you can send every single vehicle you test even those that are under powered! Thank you, it will prevent me from wincing ah ah!
We had a 1995 Nissan Quest growing up!
American here, 0C is 32F which is the temperature water freezes. Now that we got that out of the way, I’d like to see Yuri’s closet. Seems like he never wears the same shirt twice.

Minivans are awesome. One point you did not consider is the GVWR difference between an SUV/CUV and Minivan. In 1990 I couuld haul a full size washer and drier in a Dodge Grand Caravan. Do that in your Escalade!
The snippets of the Chrysler guy are hilarious 🤣
