How can I buy this version?
There is a fan made open matte version of T2. Basically it's an HD 2:35 over VHS 4:3 but still looks awesome
I have no idea what "open matte" means, but the quality is incredible.
Nice link, bro.
@@cryogeneric When the film was exposed onto the 35mm film the size of the image area that was recorded was larger than what you would have seen released into cinemas. This is because the image was cropped at the top and bottom to create a 2.35 aspect ratio for cinema release. The 2.35 aspect ratio was the intention of the director and cinematographer and personally i prefer to stick to the intended final image.

hard to believe that arnold was considered so indispensable for this film, that the cast and crew were prepared to wait for him to finish filming conan the destroyer rather than recast him.
excellent decision because history was made.
maqz malone I read about that! And it was good that James Cameron waited! Would of been a big mistake
Arnold Schwarzenegger gets dinged all the time for his supposedly subpar acting but his performance in this film, (all of the little bits of his performance, such as: the way he scans the environment every time he enters a new space, or the way his head whips back during the scene where he's killed Sarah's roomate and Sarah calls to leave a message on the answering machine) completely sells the concept of the Terminator as an antagonist.
Yeah, imagine if Cameron had gone with casting O.J. Simpson, since his name was actually in contention for the role.
@@randyqquaint8400 I still wish Billy Idol portrayed T-1000, but RP was great also.
James cameron knew he made the right decision and he's smart despite the latest box office flop.he helped bankrupt a few idiots now he can properly reclaim the franchise for himself.if were lucky he'll get bored with avatar and work on another one.
This is what terminator should be doing always, literally punching a hole in someone's stomach, not throwing people around!
That's the problem with the series moving away from its origin which is horror
@林幹傑 No it was influenced by kid John Connor
@林幹傑 I think he was mostly referring to the T800 from salvation
He threw the first guy.......
But... he did throw people around in T1, too.
Jokes aside it was a brutal throwaround where he threw him around until he actually died from internal injuries.
RIP Bill Paxton, the one and only who faced the three most iconic movie monsters (Terminator, Alien and Predator).
Yes, Bill Paxton really was a very versatile actor. Besides the named films I also liked Twister, Titanic, True Lies and Edge of Tommorow.
@@KYoung-kj7hr Paxton was in most (if not all) James Cameron movies. He was one of Cameron's favourites.

damn arnold in his prime was an absolute unit
This isn’t when he was in his prime. He was long past his competitive bodybuilding days here. Check out his physique in 1974. Holy fuckin shit.

FUCK YOU ASSHOLE (HEY FUCK YOU ASSHOLE)
You won’t be needing any clothes...
I feel like Arnold’s acting is so underrated. He perfectly captured the idea of a robot trying to conceal himself as a human. On the outside and in certain movements, you’d think he was just a human. But the way he scans around, and especially when he speaks, because the viewer sees him so much, you really realize this thing is far from human. Also, did Bill Paxton’s character actually die in the beginning? Looks to me like he was just thrown into the metal gate. But then again a robot did that to him so the force probably did kill him.
I wouldn't say his acting was underrated - this movie launched his career into the stratosphere, not to mention he received acknowledgement from "Soldier of Fortune" magazine in 1985 for his realistic handling of weaponry on-screen. Nothing underrated about all that!
@@AchtungBaby77 that’s awesome all that success is definitely deserved after that performance. Should’ve won an Oscar for it too probably haha
I think Bill Paxton's character dies of spinal injuries or something after impacting the metal bars
Arnie was originally supposed to play Kyle Reece in this movie, but after having a conversation with James Cameron about how to terminator should act and move as a cyborg, Cameron was convinced he was perfect for the role of the T-800. What a choice it turned out to be.
@@X-Y_Z thanks. Had to make sure his legendary “die to every great sci fi monster” status was still in tact lol
Brad Fiedel just nailed the sound and music of both T1 and T2.
Raw, epic, scary and thrilling.
You got that right
35 years later and the T800 is still the best Terminator villain, though T1000 comes very close.
What made the T-800 and T-1000 the best was their element of mystery, shock, and horror. You knew they were sinister but the audience initially had NO IDEA what they were or what they were capable of. The visual effects were new and never seen before. The audience's reaction (myself included) was like "WHAT THE FUCK!!!?? OH SHIT!!!" I didn't know whether to root for the heroes or the VILLIANS because they were all badass and COOL. The other movies failed because they lacked these elements.
@@duprez2 A big problem with the newer movies is that they completely missed the elements you listed of mystery and horror. Instead they only try to make them as overpowered as possible for bigger explosions, and then the characters survive ridiculous shit and the plot armor is just too much. Granted Terminator 2 had a little bit of plot armor with the whole "Call to John" scene, seriously, the T100 has been killing people it mimicks, and he could do the same with Sarah to call to John. But it is only one little nitpicky moment. The first Terminator never hard a moment where I felt that Sarah had plot armor. The first 2 movies are not the most action packed movies, I mean they were very action packed, but it knew how to be restraint enough so that we still feel the vulnerability of our main characters. The characters in the other sequels aren't vulnerable, they survive ridiculous shit, like driving a car through a semi truck's load, and they just had to duck while the car destroys itself(if you recall, that actually happened in T3)
It's like comparing Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi's Master versus the Star Wars actors of today - feminist, politically correct, entitled to have all the powers without showing they actually worked for it, all thanks to special effects.
I had no issue with the cast and most of the new characters in the SW sequel trilogy. Rose was obviously a huge misfire but everyone else was fire. It was the direction and failure to take risks that made Rise of Skywalker an underwhelming finale.
gor9027 ironic how a simple machine (footsoldier) is scarier than all these new terminators with all this tech

@@TheRealPDizzle That's debatable since Bishop doesn't actually die for the alien queen, he gets deactivated by Ripley in the third movie.
I like how the three punks aren’t even remotely threatening to the T-800 when he first approaches. Other than laugh at him for being naked, they don’t even do anything bad and only pull their blades on him when he threatens them first. This works to make them seem so much more sympathetic and underserving of their plight when he finally kills them.
It's true you don't see them as punks but vulnerable kids
@@visionist7 I see them as punks.
He didn't kill all of them. He pushed the hand of the first punk, he pushed Bill Paxton away to the bars and he only killed Brian Thomson probably because Thompson stabbed him with his blade. I believe that if one of them had given his clothes to the terminator once he asked them, none would have died.
@@gstarscream We don't see if he actually kills the other two or not. And face it, are you just going to give some random naked dude your clothes because he demands it? He didn't ask, he demanded. He threatened them.

This. Even Terminator 2, though mostly actionized, still had some horror-movie elements. Like Sarah's Judgment Day nightmare, and the T-1000 ambushing the T-800 in the steel factory.

Yes, Say what you want about Arnold's acting skills - But here he really makes us feel like we're dealing with a cold, calculating machine that only wears human skin as a disguise. - Every movement, no matter how subtle, every look of his eyes as if he were scanning his surroundings - that's exactly what a machine would do that pretends to be human, but doesn't come across as 100% human.

The opening shot of the garbage Truck mechanisms is brilliant, the director wants you to be scared of machines so the close up shots and mechanical sounds are so un-nerving . Great work by the filmographers

Best Terminator film hands down
Stuff like this is why this movie is so great. The tension and atmosphere. It was far from being without flaws. The tire marks on paxton's face for example. The idea that a terminator needs to ask clothes when it could literally walked up to them and ripped off their faces before putting on their clothes. Yet the menacing presence, the atmosphere and tension made this movie such classic.
It actually makes sense, its better to be polite and stealthy, dont want to alert the authorities. Not even a terminator robot from the future would withstand the deployment of the California National Guard armed with autocannons, tanks, and anti tank weapons. The robot is on an assassination mission, not a battlefield.
Not to mention killing them actually can bloodstain the clothes. Not exactly inconspicuous.
@@smh9902 Exactly
@@smh9902 The T-800s are "infiltrator" units but I find it a little funny how they're still brought to different points in time in such a conspicuous way with the lighting orb that melts whatever is in its way. And killing in general in order to acquire clothes will never not seem at least a little counter-intuitive, but then again, it *is* still a mission with time constraints and certain parameters that must be met. So perhaps asking someone to hand over their clothes is the best option between killing people without discussion, and ransacking a clothing store.
You’re dumb
The way the terminator goes over at looks at Los Angeles, it’s a subtle way of foreshadowing the unbelievable death and destruction the killing machine would soon bring to the city.

From the very beginning we see the Terminator trying to act as 'human' as its program allows it. I guess it has some kind of 2-step programming switch:
1. It stays calm and does its best to blend in among humans. As long as people gives it what it commands/desires, there's no need for violence.
2. If people are unable to or refuses, or like here, directly goes against the Terminator's commands, it's PSYCHO TIME!
