    2:25 Another amazing attention to detail:
    Notice how when the Sarah keeps saying that she can't tell where she is, the T-800 responds more humanely and persuasively, with a motherly sense of concern and panic, with much more lengthened dialogue to make him seem more believable and natural such as "Oh, but honey, I need to know where I can reach you... And you won't even tell me what's going on? I am worried sick, dear!"
    But as soon as Sarah provides the info, he seems much more robotic, and straightforward. The T-800 responds with very quick and short answers like," Uh huh.", "I got it.", and then ends the call very unnaturally and suddenly. He has the information he needs, so now the act has been dropped entirely...
    Very well done directing by James Cameron! 👍

      @medinaalangabriel Před 2 lety +123

      And then you later have the T-1000 failing where this T-800 succeded: since not everyone will act in a worried, persuasive and concerned way when a son/daughter goes missing it failed to convince John, other people'd rather react in an angrier or even uncaring way. This terminator played a gamble and won, cause if Sarah's relationship with her mother'd have been shittier he'd had lost her track entirely.

    I think "less is more" aesthetic worked perfectly in this film. The terminator is shown as a very mysterious and emotionless "being" in this film. Although, he may pass as an ordinary human being but you can tell there is something very off about him. A non living entity that's been reanimated and turned into something that resembles life is a very scary concept indeed.

    • @NYG5
      @NYG5 Před 9 měsíci +6

      But he does exhibit some personality quirks. While he doesn't hate or enjoy torturing people, he does seem to show annoyance and irritation and preference for things. Like here, he sits on the bed instead of standing up and looming over the phonebook the way a machine might do. Or when he gets shot by some of the cops he seems to be annoyed by it before he blasts them with the shotgun. T2 Arnie says the data could be described as pain, but since the terminators possess a neural network that has to mimic the human brain, I wonder if the pain data actually translates closer to how humans feel pain than merely data.
      Plus here, he could have chosen the neutral "no, please come again later" responses but instead because his mission is in jeopardy with his failing disguise and repeated failures to kill Sarah when she was in reach, he tells the janitor to fvck off.

    Fun fact: the first shot in this scene where Kyle and Sarah are walking through a thick cloud of hazy smoke was NOT purposely placed there by the special-effects department but this smoke was actually poisonous bug spray spread around certain areas of the city by the L.A. Council in order to kill Med-flys that carried diseases, in the news it was called the "1984 Med-fly scare".

      Agreed that it's awesome the Terminator didn't care the flies were there. But they were there because his skin was decaying. That's also why the janitor asked if a dead cat is in there--the T-800 smelled horrible. Several theories as to why, including having his artificial "heart" damaged in battle, or that he was a prototype and the Skynet hadn't quite yet figured out how to heal skin yet (but did figure it out by T2).

    • @tytusajtmankiewicz6818
      @tytusajtmankiewicz6818 Před 4 měsíci +3

      You're wrong, dude. As stated by Kyle the T-800 model has skin and hair especially grown for the cyborgs as well as it's all organic matter. Bad breath, sweat, everything. His skin is starting to decay at that point probably as a result of the explosion of the car fuel canister Kyle gets blown off earlier in the movie. The same explosion burns out it's eyebrows and shortens its hair. The Terminator gets covered by flies like magnet attracting due to its bad smell, which is also picked up by the janitor asking if it has a dead cat or something in there. Honestly I gotta say I love Cameron's attention to detail on this matter. This aspect makes total sense although it gets somehow totally forgotten in the next movies.

Her taking a shower and wrapped in nothing but a towel seems like a subconscious move on her part like she's offering herself to Kyle Reese on a silver platter. He's probably blown away by all the green living things, clean air, and a female that actually makes a fuss over her cleanliness and appearance. The females he's used to are two things-soldiers and a basic necessity that needs to have as many children as possible from whoever to keep humans from going extinct. At least in his short life he got to see a vibrant, living earth full of humans and hit the jackpot with his idol that he knew only from a photo.

    What I'm finding weird here is how the Terminator knew how Sarah's mother sounded. When we pan through the inside of the mom's house we see wreckage throughout, as near as the front door! I figure she only got a scream or two out before she got killed. Unless of course the Terminator was smart and patient enough to hear the mom talking in the cabin before breaking in, it feels unrealistic.
    Compared with John, whom the Terminator had listened to for a considerate amount of time before using his voice to dupe the T-1000.

    • @mackcarlo

      These powers are what enlightened humans experience. It takes literally one word to analyse and copy a persons voice then you can hear them saying literally anything from within your head. It’s the vibration frequency of the vocal cords that is copied so even a moan or scream is enough for full access to that skill.
