I have Weggie that was dropped on a construction site. She was about the same sized as a small bunny. A group of crows were chasing the hawk and made it drop her. She came running to one of the workers for protection. I brought her home and she is the sweetest thing.

My late great NFC Snow came to us as a retired show cat when he was about 6 years old--solid pure white with big blue eyes; 14 lbs of fur, muscle, and attitude. We already had 3 other purebreds of different breeds when he came to live with us; we had a running joke about having a retirement home for cats. Snow figured out very quickly that he was the biggest and the strongest and set himself up as Boss Cat. We had 8 years of his antics until we lost him to cancer about 2 years ago; will always miss him.

We got adopted by a Wegie! We thought he was a full grown fluffy cat and took him to the vet and he said he was a 7 month old kitten! He's an amazing cat! He loves walks and climbing trees. ❤️👍😺 His name is Snickers ☺️🤣

We adopted our rescue cat, when she was 5 months old, and it turns out she's a Norwegian forest cat ..my husband now lives with 2 Scandies as I am Danish. They are such beautiful looking cats, with a lovely calm personality....ours loves when we take her for trips in the car.

Danish heritage here too! My boy talks, loves to play with me and will spend time on top of the hutch that is taller than I am. When I last took him to the vet he stretched out on the table like he was at a spa. The called him "chill" and that was the truth.

I drove from northern Indiana to Greenville, So Carolina for my Kramer. The car had a litter box and of course a nice spot to eat. I thought Kramer would be like a lot of cats and crawl under seat for the ride home, about 10 hrs. Boy, was I wrong. As soon as we were all safely in the car, I opened the door of his travel crate and he popped right out of the crate and explored the entire car front to back and top to bottom all the way home. He is a lover boy, lays next to my pillow at night and makes biscuits on my face. For the first 4 or 5 years of his life he would sit on my pillow and suck my ear. Yes, I am in love with him! (he's about 15 lbs) And, I am Danish on my mom's side!

He hated staying at home and happily made a trip by car from Paris to Hendaye (spanish border). He must be the most travelled California skogkat of all ! Sadly had 2 of them...beautiful, graceful, friendly, athletic and loving. Very intelligent too! One just passed away a month ago at 22 yrs, her sister 2 years earlier at 20. They originally had a pure white sister, that the vet kept. She was born blind and deaf. The vet wanted her so we took her 2 sisters. Excellent temperment and health! God bless all cat hoomans and their feline family!❤❤❤🇨🇦

Believe it or not but my Wegie is a kitten of a feral cat. I never gave it a thought, he is just my big fluffy love bug. But, I started reading about them and watching these videos and I have no doubt he is a Wegie. He is the most loving, sweetest, funniest cat I have ever had and I love him to pieces. His winter coat last year was monstrous but less so this year, not as cold. He is 16# with the prettiest light green eyes. They are special.

Yep, I feed a momma cat outside. She's the matriarch of a small colony. She's a small gray tabby, but in 4 litters over 2 years she had birthed 3 kittens (out of 12) presenting as full Norwegian Forest cats (most of the rest are short hair grey tabbies). Two (born a year apart) moved into my home. They are super friendly and trusting almost immediately with humans. Love the green eyes!!!! BTW, I don't see the dad often, but he's a huge pile of fur. He looks like a tumbleweed.

I have read they also have extra floofy toes called “snowshoes”, can be somewhat vocal, and have extra ear furnishings (floof) but not the lynx tips like Maine Coons. Also, it’s common for them to not be lap cats, but like to be close by and petted. I have a rescue cat that I’m convinced is at least part Weigie and I love her soooo much.

Some have the tips, some don't. They are closely related to Maine Coons (has been genetically proven that MCs are descended from NFCs), so characteristics of one are sure to pop up sometimes in the other.

Make your wegie happy by harness training them. They LOVE walks and being outside, and because they’re so agreeable and intelligent, training them to walk on a leash is a breeze. My buff colored, double coated with a white tipped cotton ball fluffy tail, wegie Tanner (with us 19 years before he passed 6 years ago. I still miss him every single day) would run to me and chirp continuously as soon I picked up his leash and harness. He’d get so excited knowing he was going on a walk. Tanner, who was our gorgeous, extremely smart, extremely kind, extremely strong and sturdy boned 20 pounds of fit not fat baby, was possibly the greatest cat that ever lived. Firstly, he loved everyone. And everyone loved him. It was impossible not too. And never, not once in his whole life, did he go outside the litter box, scratch or bite or fight a person or another pet, or cut up furniture or belongings. He was super affectionate and greeted everyone at the door, and loved to lay on every guest’s feet, stranger or not, and rub his scent on their shoes by bunting with the side of his mouth and face, and purrrrrrrr; so loudly you couldn’t believe it was coming from him. Even dog people who didn’t generally like cats loved Tanner. Cause he was more like a dog, but smarter 😂, more than any cat I’ve ever known. I’ve had many wonderful , smart, loving cats in my life. But Tanner was extra special; he was also extremely beautiful and his coat was so thick and so soft too. He was Blond with big green eyes. I used to call him the Brad Pitt of cats 😂. He came into my life by accident actually. His Mom was a rescue I took in from an over run shelter I foster for, after they’d just rescued a bunch of wegies from a kitten mill abuse home. She was pregnant at the time too but we didn’t know that. She had four beautiful wonderful kittens, of which Tanner was the runt. The fact that he’d be 20 pounds eventually was very unexpected 😂. Anyway I found great homes for Mama and three of the four kittens (they were all great, loving cats including the Mom we named Founder, cause we “found her” pregnant 😂) , and nobody adopted Tanner the runt. So he ended up a member of our family. And I’m so thankful that he did. I’ve had many wonderful cats my whole entire life (all rescues or strays, even as a child) and have known people who had great cats. But Tanner was simply the greatest cat I’ve ever known. God I miss him. I’m tearing up actually. Ok back to wegie facts.
They’re also known for being great lovers of the outdoors (which is why it’s vital to leash train them or else they get sad and they WILL escape out the front door. And trust me they are faster than you could ever be. They are not content to only live inside four walls. They NEED to go outside. Leash train them to keep them safe though, don’t just let them run wild. They’re extremely curious and fearless and can get themselves seriously hurt). They make fierce hunters and are instinctually very predatory and will kill any prey animal they come across, yet they are the most loving, gentle, affectionate, protective, kind animal companion to humans that you could ever have. They love being brushed, love fish and many even like vegetables (Tanner loved tuna and salmon and peas and green beans which he’d get as a special treat), are incredibly strong, are fiercely protective and loyal to their people and guard over them while they sleep (especially babies-Tanner grew up with my kids and watched over them his whole life), are calm and curious and love meeting new people, are good with other pets, like lots of affection and most like drinking from a running tap and even like physically being in water; I know Tanner did. He used to take showers with us, where he’d sit at the far end of the tub in the gentle spray and lick it off himself, and even lay down in the water 😂. He could also open doors, leap very high in the air and jump into your arms, catch anything flying or running (a mouse a bird or an insect, didn’t matter. None stood a chance around him), had 6 toes on each of his front paws, loved belly rubs, loved to go for visits to family and friend’s homes, I taught him commands and he knew stay, sit, go (which meant run 😂), up, lay down, and jump down, he loved to ride in the car, was a therapy cat at Easter Seals for years, and loved to play fetch. I never even needed a carrier for him because being leashed trained and loving to ride in the car it was so easy to transport him. I’d walk right in Easter Seals with him on his leash and the people would get so excited to see him, and with a chirp he’d jump right in this one man’s lap who used a wheelchair and he’d wait by the door for him. They’d give each other lots of love and the man would drive his power wheelchair around to other people so they could pet Tanner who’d lay right in his lap. It was adorable ♥️ And I’d literally walk him into the vets office on his leash, and he’d lay in my lap or in the chair next to me like a person, the whole time purring and watching the other animals. And yes, he even loved his vet. The staff were just amazed by him 😂. The vet told me he was the most special, most wonderful cat he’d ever met in his entire career and that the Norwegian FC is truly a special and wonderful breed, one of the most unique and the most intelligent and loving of all breeds.
Out of my whole life, Tanner remains one of the best and truest friends I’ve ever had. Miss him so much. I still dream about him sometimes, even all these many years later. When he passed, I went into months of depression. Cried every day. Our whole family was devastated. Still tear up sometimes when I think think about him cause I miss him so darn much. Grieved over him like I’d lost a family member; we all did. Because we all did. He was absolutely family. When I die, I hope almost more than anything, that he’s waiting on the other side for me. And I’ll get to see my dear friend and family member, and we’ll be together, once again. Love you Tan The Man. Forever in my ♥️

The neighbors weren’t taking care of their cat, she was attached to me, I moved, so I took her. I believe she’s part NFC or she could be a pure bred. We don’t know where they got her from. She was only outside with them and they had her for getting rats. They didn’t pet her and let her have so many litters she almost died. She lives a life of luxury now and screams for wet food. She’s a blessing. She never bites or scratches or tears anything up. I believe it’s because she goes outside. She’s an avid climber and hunter. Therefore, I cannot get any small pets. She’s prolly kill them but besides that’s, she gets along great with all other animals except for cats. Lmao.

I'm wondering if there is a separate breed of Norwegian Garbage Dump Cat that has yet to be recognized.

Aleksandr the Great is 2 1/2 years old and was from a rescue litter. He matches the typical breed description to a T, so we think maybe a purebred female got pregnant with a wandering Tom and the owner dumped the kittens. He is going to be a beautiful adult cat, but currently he focuses on persecuting my two older females and getting into all sorts of other trouble.

Ours moved in from next door one day at the end of last Summer & flatly refused to go home again, she comes & goes as she likes like our other two cats do because we have a cat flap, but she decided that this is where she lives now & the folks next door are OK with it. So they transfered her to us officially so we can sort her out at the vets etc. if & when it's needed, she's just comming up for being 4 now & is as soppy as they come, except if you're a rodent. She reminds us of this almost daily by bringing them in from the woods & fields at the back of our house & then murdering them in front of us, enormous rats seem to be her favourite prey.

Correction: The Norwegian forest cat can get up to 20 years old. They have little inherited diseases and health issues. They can handle the outdoors but must have access to a warm place, water and food. Even if they have a dual layered fur the ears, tail and paws can get frostbite.
Grooming once a week is a good idea.

14-16 years! OH NO! Ours, "Stinky", is headed for the last round-up if true. He is a GENTLE GIANT at over 25 lbs, made my brother's Maine Coon look like a shrimp. The 2 coats have always been a problem, and we've had to have him "shaved" several times. The undercoat got to be like a shell. Hope the life expectancy is wrong. Way wrong!

the Vikings favourite colour of cat was orange. That's why there are so many orange cats in the north of the UK, and from there, around the world.

Fan of but can't have one. I live in Houston TX which had insanely hot temperatures! Summer is tolerated only by seasoned Houstonians and winter is dismal overcast. The few short months of cool would be the only time the forest cat would be happy.

The King of Norway gave Herbert Hoover a Norwegian Elkhound (national dog of Norway, a canine of superior traits and qualities on their every aspect, even their imperfections are perfect, and no bias just because it's the breed I have) whom Hoover called 'WEEGE'.
As for the NFC, Yeah, I want one or two as companion for my elkhound.

I found mine at my local animal control! He was only 10 weeks old. He’s now 10 months old & twice the size as my other two cats. He’s such a doll! He loves to plays fetch, learned to sit on command, & listens better than my dog. Haha! But he DOES love to climb. Which has destroyed several curtains & curtain rods. So just be aware!

Mine lived to 15. Their claws are like sharp knives. I can't tell you how many shirts were cut up not torn by her claws. I have a few scars form accidental cuttings.
She hated my ex-wife and would spray her when she went into heat 'He's mine b---!"
She was definitely my cat though when I would bring the autistic kids I worked with over to have dinner as an outing she never clawed them and tolerated them holding her and sitting in their laps. Otherwise she only did that with me. Never with my ex-wife she would get up and walk away from her if she was being petted by the ex.
She walked like a bulldog and got along great with myMaine Coon and the other cats over the years.
One weird thing on some of her toes she would have two claws making a pincher, It took years before she finally was tolerant of nail clipping.
